| The debut album from one of my favorite bands. It's still fairly raw (songs like 'Nightrider' and 'Stick to Your Guns' reminds me of early Scorpions and Ratt), but the band's trademarks are there: George Lynch's guitar wizardry and the three-part harmonies. The title track and 'Paris is Burning' are probably the best songs from this album. (7 out of 10)

| I like the European (Carrere records) release better than the American mix, which is too 'boomy'. Unfortunately this release never made it to CD. On the Carrere release the track Live To Rock is called 'We're illegal' and the song 'Paris is burning' is a studio track. Especially Paris.. blew my mind when I first heard it on the radio (it's the B-side of the We're Illegal single). Great album, but you need to hear the Carrere release to fully enjoy it...

| Very good album. Acording to me, the best songs of it are 'I canīt see you' and 'young girls'. Itīs a good american style. Not so heavy and not so 'soft'. But it could have been better.

| Breaking the Chains is a killer. Dokkenīs great debut. Songs arenīt so catchy what they are later 80īs releases, but songs like I Canīt See, Breaking the Chains, Young Girls and Seven Thunders are worth to buy this album. If you call yourself a Dokken fan of course.

| 'Breaking the Chains' is the song that got me hooked on Dokken, and also the first song I ever heard with them. 'Paris Is Burning', 'Seven Thunders' and 'Nightrider' are also stand out tracks. The rest of this album is average at best, and nothing compared to their other 80's releases.

Like many others, 'Breaking the Chains' was the song that introduced me to Dokken. I first heard the song on one of those 'Metal Masters' compilation tapes put out by K-Tel(remember K-Tel?  ) This was just a glimpse of what was to come,with 'Breaking the Chains','Felony',and 'Live to Rock' being my personal faves.

| Did George play on ALL the tracks?? Listening to the solo on the title track sure doesn't sound like him. Granted he was a young guy then, and coming into his style, but one listen to other tracks on BTC or a glimpse into Tooth And Nail and it sounds out of George's style. Someone said Don played solos on BTC. Anyone confirm this?

| The Carrere (European) version is definitely much rawer and heavier, especially Stick to your guns. Probably the best Dokken album!

| Probably their 2nd best cd theyve ever made. i say this because their second ablum TOOTH and NAIL was kick ass. that was by far their best cd ever. Breaking the Chains is a lighter sounding dokken album. classics such as BREAKING THE CHAINS, LIVE TO ROCK (ROCK TO LIVE), STICK TO YOUR GUNS, I CANT SEE YOU, and PARIS IS BURNING.

| This album in my opinion is Dokken' best album overall. Breaking the chains got great guitar riff and i thought this song is better than tooth & nail. Paris is burning is also a good songs.

| Pretty weak debut by Dokken. Starts of strong with the title track, but then goes full gear into generic city. Ends on a strong note with the great George Lynch showcase 'Paris Is Burning'. 4/10

| Although I have a personal affinity for this album, it really isn't much to get excited about. Don still insisted on playing rhythm guitar at this point which seems to hold the record back some. George Lynch gets alot of (deserved) credit for his solo technique, but what really made Dokken great IMHO was Lynch's crunching rhythm guitars on later releases. 'Mr. Scary' is not quite in full bloom here, but the seeds are sown on 'Paris is Burning' and 'Breaking the Chains'. For Dokken fans only. B-

| this debut is weak! the display in guitar is in the raw! but as above 'breaking the chain' and' paris is burnning' are not bad songs!but if you compare this album to their latest album like 'shawdow life' or 'st' or 'hellto pay' it's much better!

| Not the best album ever, but 'Breaking the chains' and 'Paris is burning' are great peices of hard rock history. It's nice to see where this brilliant band came from, but not really a great listen, to be honest.

| The song 'Breaking The Chains' is an all-time masterpiece, worth the price of admission alone. Lynch not only become an axe legend, Don Dokken had a great voice, in that he rarely had to scream to make an impression. He knew how to flow with the song & leave a lasting harmony if need be. Kind of raw overall, but the production techniques would polish things up considerably, especially by the time their 3rd full length album came out. Still recommended.

| all their records are great but this one is just not as good as their later releases.lynch is a real wizard on the guitar and don has awsome voice, but hte production is not at the top here. my favs: Breaking the Chains, Live to Rock (Rock to Live), Nightrider and Paris is Burning

| first complete work by dokken offers strong moments like "breaking the chains","felony","paris is burning".it also contains some average songs for the status of their quality.anyway this was the beginning of a great band who ruled and still does oue scene

| A very good album and one of their best I'm sure. Breaking The Chains is a great opener followed by In The Middle and the fantastic Felony. Live To Rock is a speedy rocker and Stick To Your Guns is another stand out. Good stuff.

| 'Breaking the Chains' is a cool opening song but it's level is never reached again. 'Seven Thunders', 'Young Girls', 'Stick to Your Guns', 'Paris is Burning' are nice but overall this is not a remarkable album. 70/100
