Despite the layoff between albums, Show Business picks up almost where Hotwire left off. Not as tight and refined as Hotwire, but most of the tracks rock and there's no bowing to grunge like a lot of other bands were doing during the mid 90's. "Ball Baby" gets the party started and things cruise from there. "Fireballs" borrows quite heavily from AC/DC's "TNT", which is cool. "Book to Hypnotize" is quite different and my favorite track, with other good ones being "9-1-1" and "Baby Time Bomb".

From: The Fizzy One Date: November 24, 2002 at 18:20
THere are a lot of guest guitarists on this one, including the guy from SKin and Bones and I forget who-all else. To me, it sounds like Kix maybe going through the motions a little bit. Now, y'all know I'm a HUGE Kix fan, they're probably y favorite band, but definitely in my top three, but this album seems to be lacking something, to fall just short. Still some great tunes on it though. The Fizz Picks: "9-1-1," "Put My Money Where Your Mouth Is" (a shameless "Riff Raff" clone) and "Fire Boy."

From: M. Allen Date: November 28, 2002 at 13:32
Have to agree with The Fizzy One--this sounds like KIX just going through the motions. Give the band credit for not pulling a Warrant and jumping on the grunge bandwagon, but following on the heels of great albums like "Blow My Fuse" and "Hot Wire," this release comes across as second-rate. You won't kick yourself for picking it up, but this time out the band showed little of the "punch," for lack of a better term, that defined their previous efforts.

From: Gar Date: January 5, 2003 at 22:52
If I'm not mistaken, I think the band had already broken up by the time this one came out. Some of the material is second-rate, but its still got the classic KIX sound. For me, "Ball Baby" & "Baby Time Bomb" are the most memorable tracks. If you liked their other albums there's really no reason you wouldn't like this one as well.

From: Kix Fan Date: June 30, 2003 at 10:44
Sorry Gar, not true. The band was indeed still together when this CD was released. In fact, I saw them on the "Show Business" tour! My first Kix show ever (at Mother's/FM Staion in NJ -- though it's now a bus stop park & ride), and the band was incredible. They played lots of good songs from the new disc, too. I think it was actually during this tour and the aftermath that things completely fell apart. That part is speculation, though. But just for the record, the band did tour in support of thi

"Ball Baby, Fireballs, Baby Time Bomb, Fire Boy, I'm Bombed" - some difficulties in coming up with personal song titles..?

From: layback Date: December 1, 2003 at 8:14
give up guys. you were really never "guns and roses". Just an opener never a closer.

From: Christine Date: December 1, 2003 at 18:59
I completely disagree. These guys were around a hell of a lot longer than GNR, and I don't think the two can even be compared. GNR absolutely sucked every time I saw them live. Kix, on the other hand, was one of the best live bands ever - tons of energy, tight musicianship, and Steve never sounded FLAT like Axl. Granted, this is not their best album, but Kix is still one of my favorite bands nonetheless and I really miss them. I don't miss GNR or Axl's crappy attitude. But that's just me.

Hey Kix fan -- I saw them at Mother's on this tour too. I saw 'em three more times on this tour as well! So they were definitely still active at the time, I guess the band broke up after that tour was over. Shame, 'cos I saw 'em a bunch of times and they were one of the best live acts I ever saw.

From: Metal Pete Date: January 2, 2004 at 13:32
I was excited when I saw this on the record store shelf and bought it. As a diehard KIX fan, it appeals to me on tracks like "book to hypnotize', 'if you run around' and 'fireballs'. But it is their weakest release and 'new' fans should start with Midnite Dynamite.

From: love metal Date: January 22, 2004 at 14:14
pretty good but not near as good as blow my fuse or hotwire.

From: Mike Date: April 12, 2004 at 13:35
I like this one, but I feel it is one of their weakest releases: it lacks the great energy they had on the previous 2/3 albums (with Hot Wire being their absolute peak). Some good songs, though, like 9-1-1, Book To Hypnotize, Ball Baby. Anyways, I managed to find a bootleg on p2p, titled "Thunderground", which contains many unreleased tunes taken from the Show Business sessions: SURPRISE! At least 4/5 of them are way better than the actual album songs! Look for it, it really deserves to be heard

From: Blue Tequila Date: April 12, 2004 at 16:37
I definitely have to find the Thunderground bootleg. I won't argue that their previous 2 releases were better but for me for some reason this one finds it's way into the cd player more than those 2 combined. And if there are more songs from the Show Business era floating around I have to find them!

From: Geoff Date: January 27, 2005 at 4:20
Man was this a disappointment!!! I thought the band sounded great on 'Hot wire' and 'Midnite dynamite' but I was at a loss when I got this. I thought it was demos from their early days because I thought the band broke up after 'Hot wire' and the songs all sounded poor and b-sideish to me. Not a single song appealed to me and that sucked after two great CDs. I sold this and didn't regret it for a second. Very bad CD IMO. Only sound out now it was a newly recorded release in 1995!

From: Nick C Date: March 8, 2005 at 17:49
Yep the weakest Kix album! Probably a reflection on what the band were going through? Dropped by label...guitarist problems .. dunno. The songs are good but the production lacks the sparkle. If you want to get into Kix then this is the last album you should buy. Someone recently sent me a copy of Thunderground.. unreleased songs from around this period (thanks Traci) and it rocks compared to this! Hated to see the band go out with a whimper like this.

From: Nick C Date: March 8, 2005 at 17:51
Oh yeah layback...I thank heavens Kix weren't GnR ... Kix pee'd all over them. I never went to a good GnR concert (saw them 4 times... once they turned up on time!!!!) and at least I went to one mega fantastic brilliant Kix gig. A sad epitaph this release.

From: cort Date: April 6, 2005 at 16:56
I really love Kix,especcially Hotwire. This one in my opinion falls short of Kix standard!I do like "Ballbaby,911,and baby time bomb".After them three this album just can't seem to get it really rocking!!

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 30, 2006 at 21:27
Would any Kix fans know where I might be able to get hold of a CD called "Thunderground?" It's apparently a bootleg of demos that were done for the "Show Business" album and quite a few tracks on it did not make that album. I found one track ("I Drank Too Much Of You") on the Net and if there are more "lost" Kix songs I wanna hear'em! If anybody has any info please post...thanks...

From: The Jackyl Date: November 10, 2006 at 11:20
Don't know how people are saying this is their weakest release. The only weak release Kix has put out would be Cool Kids(Which I like) but even the band hates Cool Kids. All the rest are definately recommended if you are not yet a Kix fan. Thunderground is a great demo and if you can find it I suggest everyone give it a listen.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 5, 2007 at 0:38
This is boring!!!.Nothing to do with such albums as "Midnight Dynamite" or the self titled.Sorry but this one doesn't fit one's expectations.5/10.

From: Rambo Rockerman Date: January 20, 2008 at 11:38
You can't compare Gun N Roses to KIX,Gun N Roses only had one classic,Appetite, then they did Use your Illusion 1 and 2,when they should have done only one and put the best on it for illusion. All Kix cd were good, this one another great one.

From: shotgun messiah Date: February 4, 2008 at 7:52
I totally agree with Christine!Christine, you are absolutely right!!!KIX rocks!

From: edwithmj Date: August 25, 2008 at 19:53
For me this album started off well but it soon degenerates into a shadow of what Kix used to be. The songwriting and lyrics sound tired, unoriginal and uninspired. That said this is a good album if you've listened to all the others and are dying to listen to somenew material from these guys! 5/10

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: August 26, 2008 at 18:44
I'ma big fan of Kix, but I have to agree with the majority: this is just missing something. The songs sound like leftovers, and at least one of them is. They played "Book To Hypnotize" live for over ten years before it made this album. These guys actually have probably two or three full albums of songs that never made any record, and while I've only heard some of them, it's hard to imagine that the songs that made it onto Show Business was the best they could come up with. The two ballads are putrid, but some of the rockers are decent, if extremely formulaic. I gave it a 50 just for trying, but this should be the last Kix album you buy.

From: onemorecast Date: September 24, 2008 at 15:01
Kix was always good at putting new lyrics to old ACDC riffs.

From: rockhardrock Date: April 16, 2009 at 18:08
too bad this is the last album in their carreer. eventhough it was released in 1995, when 80s glam metal/hard rock was long forgotten they didn't change and thats great, well not for them, but for the fans. The song Thunderground, which didn't climb on this album is one of their best for me and it's a sin they didn't put it on this record. my favs: 9-1-1, Fireballs, Baby Time Bomb and Put My Money Where Your Mouth Is

From: edwithmj Date: July 20, 2010 at 15:30
Pretty much a disappointment for me when I got it. The first two tracks are OK and then it's down hill from there. Fireballs is one of their worst in my opinion.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: May 19, 2011 at 21:58
Pretty much the same opinion i wrote way back in 2007...gave it another listening again and it changed only a bit of my perception towards it...fine moments could be "Ball Baby","Fireballs","Baby Time Bomb" & "Put My Money Where Your Mouth Is"...try their older stuff better...my new rate is 79/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: May 20, 2011 at 9:48
Give 'em credit for at least sticking to their signature sound, which a LOT of bands weren't doing in 1995. "Baby Time Bomb" is my favorite song off this disc, and "Book To Hypnotize," Ball Baby," "Fire Boy" and the single "911" (which got only minimal airplay, even in the band's own stomping grounds) are good as well. But really, only the first two I named are up to par with past glories. "Fireballs" is just blatantly unoriginal, and the two ballads are utter crap. Hard to believe that songs like "Thunderground," "Bad Wolf," "Dooggy Won't Bite You," "Shovel Of Love," and the fantastic "Fire Engine" (from widely-traded demo sessions), not to mention some Whiteman-penned songs that later made it to various Funny Money albums, were passed over in favor of stuff like "I'm Bombed" or "If You Run Around."

From: pie75 Date: April 17, 2012 at 20:03
this isn't a bad album better then the first 2 they made but not as good as midnight dynamite through to hot wire but they didn't do a def leppard or warrant and go grunge i like 911,ball baby and fire balls is just pure ac/dc however i do agree with people here they do sound like they were going through the motions it must've been hard for these bands in the parhetic grunge era

From: MelodicMetal4Ever Date: October 12, 2012 at 11:26

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: June 26, 2016 at 20:07
I found a tape of a radio interview Steve Whiteman did with a local station just before a gig in Dover, Delaware, in September of '94 (the club was primarily a country bar, but were trying to book a few rock shows at the time). Steve was bragging about their deal with CMC, how CMC reallly knew how to market this kind of music in Europe, etc. In hindsight, he was clearly putting on a brave face. CMC was the last hope for old metal bands, but quickly became known as a white-elephant graveyard. The album didn't come out until thee spring of '95, nearly four full years after Hot Wire, and all but the most hardcore East Coast rawkers had stopped caring about them. I'm not sure, but my understanding is that Brian Forsythe had little or no involvement with this disc, and various fill-in guys like Jimmy K. Bones, somebody from Child's Play, and Steve's future Funny Money bandmate Billy Andrews did some shows with the band, if not some recording. Donnie Purnell was still writing with the same o

... old '80's hacks like Bob Halligan, Jr. and John Palumbo, but the formula was no longer paying off. I remember hearing "9-1-1" on the radio and thinking, "This is pretty dumb," even though I was a big fan of the band. A couple good live bootlegs exist from this tour--one from Danbury, Connecticut, one from Kawasaki, Japan--as the band put on their usual high-energy show. But behind the scenes, you have to figure the guys were pretty dispirited. The mid-'90's were such a brutal time for a band like Kix. I haven't heard it, but I once saw a bootleg on someone's trade list for a show in Lancaster, PA, Thanksgiving weekend of '95, and I wonder what it must've been like to be at what turned out to be one of their very last gigs before splitting up.
