One of the best indies I've heard. Great mix of Melodic Rock and AOR. How this one was overlooked I'll never know. I saw this compared to Powerage recently which is a slap in the face- they kick Powerage's ass IMHO.

OK, it's 1994, and the music scene all but sucks ass and then a group like Intuition cuts an Awesome album such as 'Turn It On!' and it gets basically ignored because of the masses being stupid fuckin idiots. Bands like this should have been ruling the airwaves. Too bad the industry wasn't on the same page as them then, truly a shame, as the musicianship and songwriting on this effort holds to the greatest standards of a great HR album. Production isn't bad at all either. No fillers here. a 10!

You're right. That's a very nice record. If you're into songs like 'Miss mystery' by 'black N Blue' you'll love the song 'Outta Love' (midtempo song almost AOR) . 'In love again' reminds me of Danger Danger's debut. 'Jaqueline' sounds like 'when the children Cry' by white Lion. Overall it's an excellent effort. Highly Recommended. 8.5/10

With lyrics like 'we got each other/and that's all we'll need' ripped right out of Jon Bon Jovi's diary, combined with melodies left off Danger Danger's debut, your recommended daily allowance of AOR will be met with one listen to this awesome indie. Decent production, good keys- the fact that TIM, TheRipper, Dreamhunter, Seduced, MButt and myself all agree on this one should tell you everything you need to know about this classy piece.

I was SO looking forward to hearing this CD for the first time nearly a decade after it's original release. Unfortunatly, I cannot provide the same rave reviews as mentioned above. It's not bad, by any means, just not as exciting as I'd hoped. I suppose I'm still looking for the next BLUE TEARS, which is by far the greatest CD I own that did not grace my ears until 1999! How it escaped me for so long I'll never know, but I'm still looking for another needle in the haystack just like that!

Who knew anybody cared about this CD but myself and Chris McCoy who fronted the $ for it? It's so cool to see people speaking so highly of it 10 years later! I just want to thank everyone who wrote something here. Rock on! Dean in2ishun@comcast.net

d'yeah, the production doesn't do the songs any good but a song like 'hearts of fire' is just awesome..

Damn, wish I'd gotten in before Dean arrived because now it appears as though I'm saying it for his sake, but this is actually honestly one of my top 10 fave releases of all time. Not even a HINT of a filler, sensational vocals and perfectly written (and yes, maybe simple-but who cares!) melodic/commercial hard rock songs. 'Southside' and the sensational 'Night by night' are two of my faves, and the ballad 'Don't let me go' is simply mind blowing. HUGELY recommended CD.Any chance of another Dean?

Geoff, often we have same likings. One of the best indie also to me.Only 2 little negative points:1.the production(quite quite decent but little confused);2.sometimes you expect from some startin'track an awesome tune/refrain but often it's not at the same level of songwriting ect..I hope you can understand my suckin'English!ahahahaha!BTW these guys are great!9.5/10 surely...
|
From: Geoff |
Date: January 24, 2005 at 3:13 |
Yeah z4roxx, can understand your English just fine . Agree with you in terms of production, but I think they did okay with what they had on offer as the scene was well dead in 1994. I actually listened to this CD last night and again in my car today. Reminds me of the recently released sensational Blind Date CD. Not really similar styles, but both are what some might call 'unoriginal' melodic hard rock, but both are just pulled off flawlessly and filler free. AWESOME bands. Both of them!

If any disc in my collection was in need of a re-issue (plus a much needed re-master) it would be this one. If you love 'Slippery...' era Bon Jovi and the Danger Danger debut then this is more of the same. I don't like opener 'Southside' that much, but from then on it's keyboard-filled MHR with soaring melodies and catchy choruses all the way. Unfortunately the mix really does spoil the experience, but the song quality is just stunning. The No.2 Indie of all-time IMHO. 9/10.

Hey guys, thanks for all the comments! As I said before, I didn't think anyone remembered this CD. But it's encouraged me to think abou remastering the CD or doing another CD. There were about 5 songs that didn't get recorded due to a cat dying (no kidding). If there's enough response I'll get everyone together and do something. And make a website for the band and tell a bunch of stories and post video of performances. Let me know what you think.. Until then go to www.yesterdaysheroes.com Take c

One of my favorite cds in my collection! Everything here kicks butt! The way rock n roll is supposed to be played and sung! Not a filler one! Read the comments above and you will see everyone agrees that this is a GEM! Let's all hope that we get a chance at those 5 tracks that didn't get recorded! As THE RIPPER stated above it was 1994 and the music that was being played SUCKED! These guys were a breath of fresh air in a industry full of S..T at the time! This is a MUST OWN for your collection!!

Nothing outstanding for me, but the main point is: The singer is very sub-standard in my opinion. Be warned!

Psyborg... You're entitled to you're opinion, but it looks like you're out voted here. I think everything on this album is AWESOME! It's an independent release so I'm sure the budget for all the shine that commercially produced albums get, wasn't given here. I think the singer KICKS ASS and does a great job delivering the songs. To anyone else reading this... If you find it on eBay or anywhere else, I highly recommend it. It's like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Danger Danger and Mr. Big all rolled into one and it won't disappoint! Just read the rest of the reviews here and minus Psyborg's mechanical ear!

I know for a fact that the songs were co-written by Ronnie Santmyer of Baltimore, MD -- bigbangaudio.com, who also played all guitar tracks on the disc but the solo track on one track, I think call Going Crazy, by Dave Barber, www.barberelectronic.com, who engineered the disc. All bass guitar on all tracks but Night Bye Night & Jacquolin were preformed by Brian Lake of Baltimore, MD. Hope this info clears up things if anyone was wondering or cares.

This gem has been remastered!!?? Have I been living under a rock? Ok, no need to answer that (HeHe)...I'm gonna crawl out and click the website listed above since this album is sensational and any improvement in sound quality (pretty good to start with) would be, well, (redundantly but factually) sensational......Jeff.

jstoyz, yes from the link, it is Remastered and FREE ! masmusic, don't pay that 80 bucks. Free, Free, Free. I saw that its for sale on iTunes too, but I imagine this link would be the preferred way to get it. (that iTunes version is probably the original version). Looks like the guys pulled a Radiohead and decided to give it away for free. Great idea. I love the tracks. Did you guys see the video? I would have given a limb to see the band live in concert back in the day !

Just to let all the people how enjoy this CD here is how it happend-- Ronnie Santmyer(guitar) Dean Watkins (vocals) Chris MaCoy ( key boards) were the song writers. Most music was done by Ronnie, Dean wrote most of the words. Mike Snyder played drums & Brian Lake played bass. If anyone has seen the Utube video of Hearts of Fire, that was the line up for the CD. Can't leave out Dave Barber, engineer & co producer, Eric Turner drums on 1 song & Mike Horseman helped with some writting.

Amazing album, really enjoyed it! ..catchy songs with plenty of melodies..."Southside" & "Hearts Of Fire" apart from being straight up faves are also highlights,"Goin' Crazy" is such a catchy and nice song, you can listen to it endlessly,"Don't Let Me Go" is a beautiful ballad,"Outta Love" is ala Tobruk,"In Love Again" is AOR at its best,"Heartless" rocks the house but "Turn It On" is even rockier and a highlight too,"Don't Let Me Go" this piano version is as good as the normal one and "Night By Night" ends the album wonderfully..musicianship is the key for success in bands, this band did it but where are they now?...what a shame...98/100...

Sorry, band will never be together again. I do personly know most members. Guitarist Ronny & Bass player Brian are still good friends & talk a lot. Ronnie stays in contact with Mike the drummer & Mike Horsman, co-writer & backing vocals on a couple songs. Ronnie & Dave Barber the engineer & co-producer are very close & work together. Chris the key board player & co-writer on a few songs, some of the guys all chat every so once in awhile. Dean the singer/co-writter is out for his self & is the one that wants all of you to buy the CD off Itunes. No one talks to him as far as I know. The line up that this sight shows as the members, I don't think played 1 time on stage. I may be wrong. Just a update to anyone that cares. far as I know.
