Raging Slab's masterpiece...why radio didn't embrace stuff like "Lynne", "Take A Hold" or "So Help Me" is beyond me. The best Southern Rock CD of the 90's.

Curtis, agree with you, this one sounds like a perfect southern rock like piece, that could have appeal to various publics. It may be akward to you but this band is saluted and adopted by the stoner rock community. As for me, it is not a problem since my point of view is that there are bridges between various genres, I don't want to see the barriers. To me there are many bands affiliated to stoner rock that are worth the value and you can find very vitaminic bands with a real love of guitards

... with 60 or 70's roots, from Heavy metal ala Black Sabbath, to Led Zep, Hawkind, southern rock and so on... Some of them play really catchy rock, bands like SPARZANZA or HONCHO could please clasical rock hard fans. Well stoner rock is a too restricted term and it is a shame music has to be parted that way. Check out for ORANGE GOBLIN, last SPIRITUAL BEGGARDS release with JB from GRAND MAGUS on vocals. GRAND MAGUS is what I would call a southern doomy rock band, with great vocals and brillian

guitar works. THE QUILL, MAMMOTH VOLUME and BLIND DOG are great bands too. Not always radio friendly, it often needs several listenings to get used to but check it out, really... And what is cool about music is you can love GRAND MAGUS and enjoy the same listening to EXTREME for example...

Raging Slab... or horse shit! I'm sorry, I understand these guys are good, original and so on, but I personally don't dig this kind of stuff. Well played hard rock, but lacking all I like about hard rock.

Very much in the same vein and almost as good as the self-titled release, Raging Slab continues to make southern rock that doesn't sound like "old-man music." Songs are heavy, twangy and funky, often in the same song, and usually damn infectious. The band really only missteps on the mellower tunes, as "So Help Me" might be a little too bluegrass-y for some, and I thought "Lynne" would've done better with a more stripped-down arrangement. One thing though, both this and the s/t seem a little lacking in bottom end. That aside, both records are great, and are the best the band recorded (including the three unreleased albums floating around).
