From start to finish a brilliant effort. Not since "Scenes" has Dream Theater writing such great melodic tunes. No thrash, no exagerated and unedited self indulgent crap on this one. Even the opus 24 minute, title track is pure bliss. I still hold "Images & Words" closer to my heart, however "Octavarium" has found a home in my cd player. 9/10

'Train Of Though' DT's last album, dissapointed me big time, their first one ever to do so. Thank god then that the band have decided to cut the Metallica thing and get back to what they do best - writing powerful, yet melodic quality material. This is a fantastic album, and their best paced and most varied in a long time. The title track is every Prog fans dream come true, whilst 'I Walk Beside You' is one of the most commercial catchy songs the band has ever released with a U2 vibe to it. Superb

Fucking phenomenal from start to finish. I love every DT release (Even TOT...), the heavy, the light, the prog, but this is the stuff they truly sound at home with. Awesome production as per the norm, and filled with long, dynamic tracks. This will stay in my player for awhile, no doubt about it!

NO PARAN, UNO DE LOS POCOS GRUPOS QUE TIENEN LA CAPACIDAD DE SEGUIR SORPRENDIENDO, AHORA, EN UNA FACETA MAS SINFONICA SI SE QUIERE, MAS MELODICA, PERO CON LA MISMA FUERZA QUE EL ANTERIOR. EN FIN, SOLO PARA ENTENDIDOS 10/10, LA MEJOR BANDA DEL MOMENTO?????, CREO QUE SI

took a while to listen to this, mainly cause of the last album, but this is a killer release and they r back!!!!!! can not name any songs, all of them, only low spot is the 20m tune is up and down for me, this is the years best prog releases with Kino, PTRee, SGallery, and Arena coming in next. This is how I like my Dream Theater!!!

I lost my interest in Dream Theater when they released the poor "Six degrees of inner turbulence" back in 2002. I didn't care so much about "train of thought" either so I had no expectations when this one came out. But this is soooo unbelievable, talk about Phoenix rising from it's ashes! This is without a doubt the best album they've released since "Awake" back in 1994. And I hold this one even higher. "These Walls" is one of the top 5 DT-songs ever written. Welcome back guys! 9/10

If you like Dream Theater check out Vanden Plas. They are a very similar band but I like the song writing better.

A good album...maybe not as exquisite as some of their previous and you can notice that at first listening...tracks 1,2,5,6 & 7 are in my book though .84/100
