A pretty over-rated indie. Paper thin production was all I remembered before I nodded off for the night, disc still spinning hopelessly in my CD player. (Thank god, I wasn't driving.)

Rarer than health food at McDonald's & more sought-after than nude pics of Anna Kournikova, this melodic hard rock indie delivers the goods for fans of that big hooks/big choruses/big vocals combo. Fans of early Bon Jovi will find this CD comes out with all guns blazing, firing off one hook-filled anthem after another. Production may not be big-budget, but is pretty good for an indie. Despite the negative comments above (no offense, guys!), I think most melodic hard rockers will love this one.

This is one of the best albums I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. 10/10! I love this CD, it's filled with great guitars, outstanding drums, and very catchy hooks. I recommend this CD to anyone and everyone. If you take the straight forward Rock of Roxxi and mix it with the melody and great vocals of Lillian Axe, you will have an idea of what Foxx sounds like. For fans of Tuff, Ram, Theatre, Lancia, and small hints of Concrete Jungle. Metal 4 Life

i really enjoy this cd and the title track (gangster of love) has a killer melody and kick ass guitar ..these guys fit right in with hotboy and emergency..a kick ass band

Legend has it that they hailed from the Midwest.....Ohio I presume. Smilek can write a catchy tune if he wants to....

I'm told this band originated in St Louis. The CD was consigned to the Streetside Record Chain where I found my very first copy. After playing it, I went back to get some more copies for some friends. Lo and behold.....they weren't there anymore and I was told the band had all the stores send them back because they were going to Japan. Seems like all the good indies were ending up going to Japan about that time (mid 90's). Every now and then, I find one or two copies on my searches in the St Lou

Man, I just listened to this for the first time and it's excellent. I'll gladly shell out the $150 for it if I have the money at the time. I couldn't believe how good it was. All this time I thought it was the same band as that pos 'The Grande Finale.' I'm glad someone steered me onto the right path. Thanks Brianj.

DOSE ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS THE SAME FOXX THAT PLAYED IN AND AROUND AKRON OHIO, IN THE 80'S? I LIVE IN CLEVELAND OHIO AND USED TO GO TO AKRON TO SEE LIVE BANDS AT THE AGORA . ONE OF THE BANDS WAS CALLED FOXX. JUST CURIOUS......

First off, David.....Foxx - Grand Finale has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH 'Gangster of Love'. Many many collectors seem to have the impression that these two bands are one and the same and that is the farthest from the truth! There is no comparison. 'he Grand Finale'is, in my opinion, poorly produced, and just awful hard rock sounding. 'Gangster Of Love' is well produced, excellent melodic hard rock with lots of good hooks and songs to keep you interested. There is apparently a market for 'The

Grand Finale' because it manages to corral some steep prices when it turns up. However, I think possibly this is due to the confusion we have just discussed here with people thinking this is the same band that did 'Gangster Of Love'.

Thanks you Delbert for the info. Just one more question, Did the band Smilek re-record the same songs or are the songs on both cd's exactly the same? Also it's weird that Koogles said that the production was paper-thin?? That was the main reason for me not getting this. Maybe he was referring to the other band??

Well David, Marty Smilek did lead vocals for Smilek so there is a difference.

I just stumbled onto this site and I'm laughing my ass off! You see, I'm the former bass player for Foxx(the one that recorded 'The Grande Finale') I can't believe that, after disbanding 12 years ago, people are still talking! This kinda reminds me Bon Jovi in some ways. Track 4 was also done by a group named Smilek. I thought this was pretty good. I was kinda wondering whether this should've been on this site, mainly because of the album's title. I thought it was going to be kinda like one of those rock/rap type things. But, thank goodness it wasn't. I give this a ten.

great surprise...this is KILLER release...i expected some uninspired sleaze band(you know for example Hollywood Trix or CJ Sleaze) but what i got is beyond me...from first spin you remember all songs,it's great mix between Tuff and Lillian Axe...fave tracks 1,6,11, Good to know that Foxx-Grand Finale is diffrent band i had occasion to buy this for 40E, way too much for mediocre stuff I have Gangster only on cdr but i would love to have this on original...for me 9/10

I believe Smilek released one of the best melodic hard rock albums in recent years. I cannot find a filler track on either that disc or this one; okay, maybe 1, but that's a pretty damn fine effort as far as I'm concerned! The vocalist here sounds so similar to Marty on Smilek's disc that it's hard to note the difference, and obviously with 6 tracks here also on the Smilek disc, if you like that you're love this, as the other 4 tracks are all absolute killers too. Excellent commercial hard rock!

Killer melodic rock CD for fans of INTUITION, FRICTION, DANGER DANGER, BATON ROUGE and the likes. Awesome songs - THE HEART IS WON, I'LL BE THE IN TIME, DON'T SAY GOOD BYE, SHOT OF YOUR LOVE, HEARTBEAT IN A HEART- A must for the lovers of the golden HAIR METAL/MELODIC ROCK 80s era.

Typical '90s hard rock. Feels like listening to other similar bands with similar songs. Good but nothing special to separate from the rest.
