If you see any errors or omissions in the CD information shown above, either in the musician credits or song listings (cover song credits, live tracks, etc.), please post them in the corrections section of the Heavy Harmonies forum/message board.

The music discographies on this site are works in progress. If you notice that a particular ZZ Top CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Heavy Harmonies as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Please only submit official CD releases; no bootlegs or cassette-only or LP-only releases.

EPs and CD-singles from ZZ Top are also welcome to be added, as long as they are at least 4 songs in length.

A FANTASTIC COLLECTION! If you like southern boogie rock at all, you MUST buy this. A prized posession, indeed!!

Good compilation, but where's the earlier juice from which some of these gems originated?

If you love the production & sound of these classics, avoid this "remastered bastard" compilation like the plague! The new drums, vocals, & effects are a big distraction from the raw, pioneering catalysts. The over priced package is hard to deal with too. This redux works well with "Tejas" & "El Loco" but not the first 4. Go buy the originals.

In theory, this set would be the cheapskate's delight: you get six of ZZ Top's first seven albums on three discs. Except, as everyone knows, the record company had the bright idea (and somehow the band went along with it) to remix everything to bring it up to 1987 standards. Which, predictably, means cheesy, robotic drums and reverb everywhere. Additionally certain songs are edited down so two albums can fit on each disc. Being honest, I actually don't mind the updates to the first two albums, but from there, it gets progressively worse until we reach the underrated Tejas, which is just ruined. In case you're wondering, Deguello was excluded from the set because it had just been issued on CD three years prior (after the success of Eliminator). El Loco was deemed current enough to be exempt from the studio magic and does appear in its original form. Really tough to rate, because you get a lot, but the tinkering turned a lot of people off.
