Yet another very strong release from Scandanavia - (What are they drinking up there). This one is getting a lot of good reviews everywhere at the moment and deservedly so. Very 'Nelson' sounding in places, so if you like the 'Life' cd by them, you won't go wrong. Most of the tracks are recommended and are of a very high quality along with the production and playing ,so i won't highlight a top tune, although the gorgeous ballad 'The Moment' which closes the album is one i keep going back to again

Good stuff indeed, but not top. A bit overrated and certainly not as good as the american AOR bands. But if you like AOR you can easily buy this.

Easily one of the best releases this year. Total Nelson style with a little more between the legs, if you know what I mean. 'Lift You Up' features some nicely layered backing vocals that will appeal to the soft-core Def Leppard fan in the house. Another CD with a crappy cover yet enjoyable inerds.

This one is very good in the critics, but indeed its boring very happy sounding stuff. Not better than Bryan Adams and I hate Bryan Adams!

I'm more into 80's aor music, but i have to confess, that it's one of strong, great releases in 2003. Very good album, highly recommended. If you want to hear something really good and new, this one's must land in your cd player. CHeck out track nr. three The World of Change , and awsome soft ballad called ''the moment'' #14

Hey people take the beans out of ears. Survivor, Strangeways, Dare, (old) Ten, Asia..., were (are) great. This one sucks after 2 minutes!!!

Fans of Nelson (with hints of Def Leppard tossed in for good measure) need to jump all over this gem like a sugar-addict at a table full of Twinkies. There are some super-catchy hooks on here, and while more bite to the guitars would be appreciated, the sing-along choruses and great harmony vocals suck you in like a Vegas crack whore desperate for her next fix. Expect this one to rise to the top of many critics' lists.

Reminds me of the Nelson brothers 1st album but nowhere near as consistent, above average.

It's AOR all the way, but On The Rise offers something different, with a great deal of musical variety, all packed and delivered with some amazing harmonies, fantastic production and some of the best melodic choruses I have heard in a long time. The best thing is that even at 14 tracks, I'm struggling to find a filler. Each track has it's own feel and never once do I feel the urge to hit the skip button.

Contender for album of the year as far as I'm concerned. I agree with the Nelson comparisons, but more frequently I hear bits of Tommy Shaw in the higher vocals. The production/mix is top notch and there are plenty of hooks. Stellar stuff...

Not stellar stuff, Dan ! Decent, but nothing more. This is a hype, there are better bands and CD's out. Not bad, certainly not, but far from classic !!!

Really the best aor album of 2003!!!!! There's no doubt about it. But what these guys of On the rise have done is fantasic, really superb. Maybe i'm over-reacting but i feel strong and confident when i hear the cd Memories forever and MY FAVO ' Leaps and bound ' Really rock on Crack's a hole in your face that's much better than where your mouth fits ....Sorry for this comment!!! Holland rocks

I guess I’m biased here being a Norwegian, but I think this is one of the best releases I’ve heard this year. Strong songwriting and good hooks, but what makes it stand out is the production. It’s not “overproduced” and the songs gets enough air to make them very fresh sounding and crisp clear all the way. Also the voices of the singers makes for a nice change from the average AOR discs. Boring??? No way!!! An XLNT debut that comes highly recommended.

Some real good tunes, some real average. Average because when you hear them you could swear you've heard them before - and done better. This is a quite decent 'sing-along' debut that could serve as a springboard for a truly worthy follow up. Worth a buy for the stand out tracks, whichever your personal taste decides those to be.

Gawd, what is wrong with some of you? This is terrible and ever worse, boring! An overrated cliche fest that has nothing memorable about it except lead off track 'Beat Of You Heart'. Comparisons to Nelson and Def Leppard? Please put down the crack pipe!

From: John |

Couldn't agree with you any more TommyGunn. This is like a bunch of bad Toto songs that never made their albums. For good reason too. Not too bad if you're riding in a million story elevator, but that's about it. People comparing this to Nelson need professional help.

What a hell!!!!! On the rise came to stay!!! Is this cd an anthology? Cause all songs are great!!. I'm 31 years old and i realy like to find bands like on the rise cause the guys sounds like in the eighties. Well, the Brazilian rockers salute the band and i think that AOR fans around the world think like us. Congratulations for this classic!!!!

Sad to hear that this band have split already. High quality album and definately one of the finest things to come out of 2003. Fresh, summery songs. Few keys, but Strong and catchy guitar lines and hooks. Well worth the money.

Oh no the band have split-does anyone know why? This was an excellent album of the finest scandi AOR. The vocal harmonies are excellent and the song writing high.

Don't know if they're going to split, Rockhead. I've already seen and read that a new album would be in the pipeline. Don't know what to believe at all. Personally, I don't care much, to be honest. Not one of my fave acts !

Wow, I cannot believe I really likr this CD whereas the 'Saviour of AOR' himself, AOR Freaky doesn't. As far as I'm concerned, this is how AOR should be done. Excellent vocals, great musicianship and extremely classy songs. 'Lift you up' is a fave, but none here are too shabby at all. Very, very good CD.

Back guys, just to say this is not that great ! Too poppy and far from classy ! Not bad, that would be an insult !, just average ! Norway is head and shoulders above this, Geoff !

From: Geoff |

Nicely done, AOR Freaky. I can actually appreciate those comments as it is your opinion, which I can respect, without telling me my opinion is wrong and worthless. As I said, I appreciate those comments, but to say this is too popppy seems an odd statement as the big fan of AOR you are. I'm not sure which features this CD possesses that makes it more poppier than other releases, but I don't personally see it. Also, when comparing songwriting ability these guys make a meal of Norway, IMO.

I respect your opinion, Geoff ! But for me this record is NOT AOR, but rather pop/rock ! I never said it's bad, but I prefer REAL AOR above the more poppy/rock stuff ! And IMO Norway is a great band, though I agree that their debut had a weak production, but song wise ! ? STRONG !

I remember i had generated a lot of expectation about this album, because i was very intrigued by the comments about it and when i finally listened it... mmm what a disapoinment. I didn´t find a single song which could be just good; no hooks and a very common album. I don´t like this album and really i don´t recomend it at all

This album doesn´t have nothing to do with the first NELSON album, which is an amazing HARD AOR album, with all the great things that people like us gotta love!... in the other hand in this album i don´t find anything which at least could be near to that Great NELSON debut. Both groups are in a very different league IMHO.
