huh?.... Who would have thought that at one time Pantera was a glam metal band. I took a lissen to some of there early stuff and it sounds pretty good, but definitely '80's rock. I thought I had all their CD's, but I guess not.

Pantera's early releases(i am the night,projects in the jungle,metal magic)were never officially released , they were released on the reborn classic (bootleg)label..but power metal was officially released

The first song reminds me a lot of the first two Def Leppard albums and mix in Steel Dragon for the movie Rock Star. Overall I was pleased with the album. You should check it out if you ever get a chance.

Definitely not the kind of music you'd expect to hear from Pantera. It's obvious that they hadn't fully developed their style at this particular time in their career. You hear traces of Poison, Ratt, Van Halen and even some Judas Priest. Production is decent. The guitar solos in each song sound like an Eddie Van Halen rip-off, but they do express 'Diamond' Darrell's musical talent. This album is a must-have for all glam-rock fans.

Oh, one more thing. Pantera's first three albums WERE officially released. They were released on Metal Magic Records. A record label that was established by brothers Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell and their father. MMR featured two or three other bands. No bootlegs. No copies. ALL of Pantera's albums, including their obscure glam albums, are actuall studio albums. Professionally recorded, mixed and engineered. Anyone who tells you different is a damn liar.

What Can I Say? Is this really Pantera?? I know them from 'Power Metal' I haven't heard these previous releases yet but all the comparisons to Def Leppard @#$%!... This is not too exciting, sorry!! Now 'Power Metal' is a true metal smorgasborg... every song is excellent the best is Over & Out, then Proud To Be Loud, PST88 is great pounding anthem although the lyrics are somewhat cheesy, 'got in a fight saturday night pussy tight tonight alright!!' uh ahh okay go to KaZaa I got the songs there.

Nick, all of Pantera's early releases are available at least in mp3 form at a pay site called mother metal. You pay about 15.00 for about 1 gig of tunes. At least check out the site and their selection because you would be amazed by all the stuff they got there(odin, heavy pettin,killer dwarfs,black and blue etc) Other than that they all have been unofficially reissued from time to time. Check on some of the foreign ebay sites. That's where i got 'em. Good hunting.

Um...David? No one here is ripping on them for the glam thing- just discussing what a change it is. It seems the biggest ones who have a problem was the band themselves. I've seen several stories about how nasty Phil can be to people who bring it up. 'I am the night' is pretty good -kind of reminds me of a heavier Ratt. Hilarious lyrics though-'c'mon baby take a lick from my ice cream cone-go ahead take a lick' from 'Hot and Heavy' Found this tape in a bargain bin at Best Buy for $.99

It's definitely got it's share of cheese, but there's good stuff on here. Dimebag/Diamond is always a pleasure to listen to, he fuckin' smokes! IMO the music is far better than the lyrics, but they are what they are, and it was 1985 after all. Worth a listen, but I would stay away from buying it at the eBay prices and either get it from MotherMetal.com or find it cheap somewhere else unless you're a serious collector.

The loss of 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott is going to affect alot of people, and I think it's a good thing to allow people to discuss their feelings/memories regarding him here, but let's take any conversations/feelings on gun control to the messageboards please. The comments here on the main site should be directed towards remembering Darrell, may he R.I.P. .

Not bad, but singer Terry Lee was out of his depth and usually can't hack the notes he's attempting... he was far better suited to his later band, the kickass Lord Tracy, who were more akin to Ugly Kid Joe than commercial-Manowar rock on offer here. Still this record has its moments; Onward We Rock is undeniably infectious with its shout-a-long chorus and Valhalla's a powerful riff-fest. I can't stand the later years of this band, but this isn't too bad... not particularly great either. 6/10

Good-Decent album, mas duros mas heavies y mas glam que el anterior no tan bueno como ese para mi a destacar un corte Forever Tonight balada de Hard Melodico a medio tiempo como esas que llaman la atencion a cualquiera y gustan, el resto es mas comun ya saben a lo que me refiero a comun, cortes que escuchas en muchas bandas de estilos asi, pero esta balada a medio tiempo es la ganadora por la Magia que desprende.

Other than the surprisingly evil-sounding title song and the instrumental D*G*T*T*M, this one is pretty forgettable. This CD's version of "Down Below" is just plain pathetic. It would sound much better on "Power Metal".

I've given this disc a couple more spins since my first review, and this one has really started to grow on me. Hot and Heavy, the title song, Come-On Eyes, Right On The Edge and Valhalla are all excellent tracks. Onward We Rock is OK but the chorus is weak. Down Below has good guitar playing but terrible vocals. There is a wide range of musical styles here and it shouldn't disappoint.

This one goes alright. I wouldn't call it the greatest hard rock/metal album ever, but not the worst either. It starts off with a strong Cinderella/Britny Fox vibe, IMO, but as the album progresses the vocals die down a bit and it's not as harsh. 'Come-on eyes' is a great commercial hard rocker, and the closer 'Forever tonight' is also a very nice surprise. The rest is pretty simple, straight forward 80's hard rock/metal. Pretty good stuff.

I prefer POWER METAL and PROJECTS over this one, but I AM THE NIGHT is a solid listen and has some killer tunes like the leadoff track "Hot and Heavy" and "Onward We Rock." Anyone out there have any idea what the heck "D*G*T*T*M" stands for?

Although i like their early work from Metal Magic to Power Metal and even Cowboys From Hell, and Diamond Darrell is actually a top guitarist, a sane person should ask himself, what kind of a band or a man renounces his work (i'm talking about this early work 'course) and renounces in public!? Pantera NEVER acknowledged their early albums just because their changed their style after Power Metal and i think Pantera in general is false and they are bunch of posers (not then, but rather now!).

Somehow, I don't like this one as much as Projects In The Jungle, even though it's heavier (they were really getting heavier with each album even back then). This seems to have a more European, "serious" feel (to the music I mean, the lyrics are still by and large pretty dumb), and it reminds me of bands like Dokken or anthemic Priest. It's really a shame the band shuns these releases. Sure, it's a very different flavor, but with the exception of the amateurish Metal Magic, it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Finally got the original Metal Magic Records Pressing of this i think i like Pantera better this way as a Glam Metal Band it sucks that Pantera disowns these CD releases the first four CDS are kick ass i got this and Power Metal i'm gonna get Metal Magic and Projects In The Jungle pretty soon i love their Thrash Stuff too but they should've stuck with Glam and kept Terrence Lee in the band get these if you can find them they rock.

"Take a look at my ice cream cone, come on, take a lick / Can't wait to get you home, beat you with my stick." Yes, those are some actual lyrics. But "Hot And Heavy" is still a good song, and hell, that's the sort of shit everybody was singing in 1985. This track reminds me of early Skid Row. Other good ones are "Come-On Eyes," "Right On The Edge," "Valhalla" and the title track. Mix those first-album Skid Row sounds with some heavy Ratt, some Defenders-era Priest (but commercial). Lyrics are either ridiculous sexual stuff, or equally silly Manowar-style fare like "Daughters Of The Queen" or "Onward We Rock." Dime's "DGTTM" solo is fairly pointless, like "showpiece" guitar solos everywhere, and the ballad, "Forever Tonight," is just awful. It's a decent, enjoyable disc for the time, but the main point of interest is obviously what the band would become in the future.

Rocking and Rolling album with a great vocalist aboard(Terrence Lee...whatever happened to him...)...best songs 4 me are "I'am The Night","Daughters Of The Queen","Down Below"( ),"Come-On Eyes"( )& "Forever Tonight"(this track reminded me of Vinnie Vincent Invasion)...recommended stuff...86/100
