2004 hasn't been a great year for Christian so far. The latest House of Lords album has been slated by just about everyone, and his wife's (Robin Beck) latest album is verging on being country music. Thankfully he's returned to form with the help of some excellent outside AOR songwriters, and despite the demo-like sound quality, "Meet the Man" is mostly good quality AOR. There are fillers, and this doesn't blow you away like the FROM THE INSIDE album does, but it's somewhat back to form. 7/10.

From: Zč Rocks Date: October 28, 2004 at 4:24
Actually many songs are demo, maybe some have been re-recorded with a very low-budget. James voice lets this album deserve a higher rating than many songs are worth of.

Have been playing this one all week, and gradually it is growing on me. On first listen i thought it was very average, but time is being kind to it. 'After The Love Is Gone' is an excellent opener, and 'Leave Well Enough Alone' is another strong track, apart from that, the others haven't really grabbed me as yet. JC's vocals are excellent as you would expect, so their are no complaints in that department. Definately not on par with the debut (yet) but time will tell.

From: MelodicMan Date: November 2, 2004 at 19:17
After that disappointing House Of Lords reunion, James saved the year here. Not as good as the debut or any House Of Lords real albums, but a good effort, absolutely. I agree with TIM(2) about sound quality, since JC deserves more than that. Anyway, there are a couple of great tunes, After The Love Is Gone is great IMO, and a couple of fillers, but a good cd overall.

Agree with Jez - this does grow on you. Lets face it , there is not a lot of stuff like this being released these days. Seems to sound better through my headphones though. - strange !

From: bob Date: November 12, 2004 at 9:01
james does a great job as usuall, just his voice can get to you...deep. even better than the last house of lords.

From: Axe Machine Date: November 21, 2004 at 7:29
I will have to assume it will grow on me because after four or five listens I am still not getting my moneys worth....stick to his Rude Awakening album or the Sahara album by HOL.

From: Scandinavia Date: November 21, 2004 at 11:10
I'm one of those on which it grew (No, not talkin' 'bout pubic hair) - The problem is that it's a bit too polished...It doesn't stick to your ears immediately & calls for some serious "listener time". Then, hopefully, you will discover that James Christian is a very gifted singer and performer. After having listened to it about 496 times or so I'm convinced that this release is at least as good, or on some songs better, than HOL.

From: Roxas Date: January 2, 2005 at 19:25
This will never feed the hunger for his original release and glory HOL days. Still quality song writers are abound on this release. I don't care too much for production sound anymore, what after years of Marcie Free demos. I really enjoyed this release the ballad "surrender your Love" has made it onto the long awaited "Dogs Ballads 2" 9 straight spins this track managed. I wasn't expecting much and was prepared to hate this. Pleasntly surprised. 7/10

From: shoemaker Date: January 30, 2005 at 11:27
Very good oldschool 80īs hardrock. Only the titletrack bugs.

From: BORDER RAT Date: February 8, 2005 at 15:19
This is the perfect release of 2004.Great vocals, great songs and great musicianship wrap up a first class album. There is not one bad song among the 11 tracks here.I give this cd classic status in my collection because not many cds released these days deserves a comment like this.Do yourself a favour and buy a true rock gem which stands up beside the classics of 1990.Essential listening.10/10

From: Swriter Date: February 10, 2005 at 21:42
pretty good release, some weak songs, some strong songs including 1-6, not a classic but good release from the man!!!! some fantastic ballads on this one!!!

From: Geoff Date: March 8, 2005 at 4:26
James you wonderful man, what have you done! The first two tracks are two of the best of 2004, especially the killer 'Know you in the dark'. Elsewhere there are a few average tracks, but overall you have yourself a pretty good melodic hard rock disc and there's no getting around the fact that it puts the latest HOL disc to shame. Nice work.

From: Axe-Machine Date: September 8, 2005 at 9:41
Well after several listens I have concluded that this and Rude Awakening have similarities and differences. They are similar in the sense that they are both AOR...but different in the sense that the first album is brilliant and this is not, just like the last HOL album was a total let down. Lets hope James gets it right next time...he has tons of talent. 5/10

From: juan carlos Date: March 16, 2006 at 15:46
RECOMENDADO.

From: Carlos A. Date: July 7, 2006 at 11:28
Tremendas Canciones, Hardrock del bueno y claro James Christian se luce... pero la produccion no hace meritos. Pero no por ello se puede rockear con "After The Love Has Gone" o "Meet The Man" (Withesnekiana a lo Still Of the Night!) otros temas que sobresalen son "Know You In The Dark", "Surrender Your Love", "End Of Time", "Leave Well Enough Alone" "Strong Enough",etc buen disco 9.2/10

From: HouseOfLordsBrisba Date: July 2, 2007 at 20:09
A Great return to form for James, this album stands head & shoulders above so many recent releases. With James releasing solo records, and HOL back to there brilliant best, all is good with the world again. Am I the only one that thinks of Jovi's 'You Give Love A Bad Name' when I hear 'After The Love Has Gone'?

I really like this, partly because I love James' voice, and partly because there are some damn fine hooks here. Not a great production, but not a bad one either, I find this very listenable all the way through. Classy well written stuff with enough guitar for the rockers, and enough melody for the AOR people IMHO. Nicely balanced album.

From: lalo r.o.c.k. Date: June 22, 2008 at 17:50
This one is by far better than HOSUE OF LORDSīs Power and the Myth released those years,it has more melodic hooks and sharp edged guitars and the voice...the voice blow me away, songs like Surrender your love and Love looked into my life are the feeling made song, other pearls are:After the love has gone,End of time,Leave well enough alone(VENUS AND MARS cover),Strong Enough pure AOR with the great Robin Beck at the backing vocals,Circle of Tears (killer riffs),great album for AOR lovers,9/10.

From: cooldude Date: January 19, 2009 at 13:04
James is an incredible singer and musician, but this isn't even close to the first release. all songs are weak and hookless. very disappointing.

From: shoemaker Date: January 19, 2009 at 15:38
Hey notsocooldude its vice versa, the first one sucks!

From: erik Date: April 30, 2009 at 15:37
Hookless is what comes to mind with me also. Hell of a voice yes but the songs hmmmm. Some ok some very forgettable. Nothing that special if you can be objective

From: hair metal again Date: August 3, 2009 at 9:20
2nd effort by james christian the great voice of the mighty hair band house of lords.despite the bad influence of frontiers records this one remains as american as it should be.good melodic hard rock sound with nice songs like "after the love has gone","love looked into my life","leave well enough alone","circle of tears".not as good as the 1st one but for this time a respectable release.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: July 4, 2013 at 21:28
A good follower from his 1994's "Rude Awakening" debut but not as powerful as the aforementioned one...in here the man still shows us his great vocal skills and obviously that lead us to have some very effective songs in the shape of "After The Love Has Gone","Know You In The Drak","Love Looked Into My Life"(nice),"Leave Well Enough Alone","Strong Enough" & "Hold Back The Night"...82/100
