Over-rated and under-rated at the same time. Some view Scorpions' 'Face The Heat' as their falling point and many believe the album to be one of Scorps' best. I believe it to be neither. 'Face The Heat' was the band doing an L.A. metal thing. A great many of the songs are tongue-in-cheek numbers lyric-wise and are much harder and less-melodic than previous Scorpions' material was, music-wise. A different kind of album. I give it an 8 out of 10 & it is a great work-out cd; pretty damn good.

I gave it an 8. It's got some good tunes, and some that do absolutely nothing for me. THe good ones are "Alien Nation" (heavy!), "Someone to Touch," "Under the Same Sun" (despite being yet another socially-conscious song from them), "Woman" (mainly for the all-too-true lyrics, and not the shitty solo), "Taxman Woman" and "Lonely Nights."

Not as heavy as the Crazy World CD. Except for "Alien Nation". Now that is heavy. Too bad the rest of the CD doesn't sound like that.

my copy has 13 tracks... not 11, the final two tracks are 12. Destin, and 13. Daddy's Girl. anyone know why?

I agree with Dokken6008 about this album being under-rated and over-rated. If most of the album was like "Alien Nation", this album would be a classic. Instead, too much of it is like "Taxman Woman" and "Nightmare Avenue". Still, this is their best overall disc since "Love At First Sting". 7/10

I have to disagree with you Big Papa K. I agree that this is a great album. But the best one since "Love at First First Sting"? No way... I thought "Savage Amusement" was much better than this one.

Scorpions has always been my all time fauvorite band, i have all cds and each album has specials songs for me. This album is not as good as Savage, but still remains the force with songs like "No pain no gain" "Unholy alliance" or "Lonely nights", my cd contains 2 bonus acoustic tracks; "Destin´" beautiful song. Good riff heavy hard rock. I like this best of the Scorpion CDs I own. 'Someone to touch' and 'Ship of fools' are awesome peices of hard rock, but 'Hate to be nice' is my favourite trac. What a great song. Overall, a pretty damn good hard rock CD!

Dissappointing followup to Crazy World. Most of the song writing just sucks the dangler. Scorpions can write better songs than this.

under the same son makes me angry the record company forced them to make another wind of change-which was a hit but a horrible song in the first place. This sounded weak by the time it got released in 93, would of liked to hear them recharge they're batteries instead of coming back with this slop!

Decent & natural follow-up to "Crazy World". This is the bands last record i can stand to listen through, though not all of these tunes are inspiring. What happened to the band after this to this day is simply a shame. Seems they have waysted their talent in the studio since '93.

Another solid which starts off with the dark and heavy Alien Nation and then alternates between upbeat songs like Someone To Touch,and Taxman Woman,and darker songs like No Pain No Gain, and Ship Of Fools,there is some garbage to wade through though.The culprits are Hate To Be Nice with it's shouted verses and obnoxious and annoying chorus and the two godawful ballads Under The Same Sun and Woman, the former sounding like a poor attempt to make another Wind Of Change while the latter is hands do

O último grande disco dos scorpiões ,sem dúvida nenhuma alien nation, no pain no gain e a balada under the same sun são alguns dos destaques do disco, o curioso é que os grandes do heavy e hard lançaram seus últimos grandes discos no inicio dos anos 90 vide scorpions ,ozzy iron,black sabbath ........

You know what? i haven't heard this disc in EONS as my musical tastes have advanced etc..just through it on today and WOW! this is an excellent hard rock disc..was a huge Scorps fan the day this was released but it didnt click with me then..now years later i find that ive been missing out on one helluva rock n roll ride!! A powerful follow-up to the successful "Crazy World" album. Although not the best of the Scorpions, it is a solid, heavier, hard rocking CD, with standout tracks like "Alien Nation", "Someone To Touch" (great), "Ship Of Fools", "No Pain No Gain" and the ballad "Under The Same Sun". The last good Scorpions album until "Unbreakable".

Parts of this album are the heaviest the band has been in years, like the first two tracks, "Unholy Allince," and the eerie ballad "Woman," which hearkens back to their pre-Lovedrive material in a way. But then you get two more ballads (including a blatant attempt at another "Wind of Change" in "Under The Same Sun," which is still a good song), the Crazy WOrld-esque "Someone To Touch," and some rockers that just don't stick, like 'Hate To Be Nice." And "Taxman Woman" is just stupid. While I still enjoy most of the album, it was the last Scorps disc I bought until Unbreakable.

definatly doghouse the last good scorpions cd first 2 tracks are great although a touch heavier i haven't heard unbreakable i was horrified when i heard eye to eye getting back to this unholy allience,woman and under the same sun were all good mine came with 3 bonus songs all slower one's 1 of them a disturbing song called daddy's girl

With this album The Scorpions visited my country Venezuela for the very first time!!!...a "new" line up with bass player Ralph Rieckermann on board(John Webster,keyboard player was only a sessionist for the album)...talking about this release it is quite a goodie but nothing compared with the band's classic ones...my favourite tracks are "Alien Nation","No Pain No Gain","Under The Same Sun"(nice softy),"Unholy Alliance","Taxman Woman" & "Nightmare Avenue"(kick a**!!!)...88/100

The Scorps take a stab at the L.A. metal genre and come up with results more mixed than a mad scientist trying to build a new pet from a pile of assorted roadkill pieces. The best songs are the heavier ones, such as "Alien Nation" and "No Pain No Gain," but the band tosses out middling rockers, boring ballads, and some just plain ol' shit to create an album that is defined by wild quality variances. From song to song, you're just not sure what you're going to get, making this the musical equivalent of dating a girl with tri-polar disorder. If you ignore the dross and just focus on the diamonds, this will put some heat in your stere, but it's a half-and-half album at best.

With Face The Heat the Scorpions ventured into a heavier direction which was a trend at the time; in fact I would say that this is the most crunchy guitar riffing that they would perform on an album. What really counts though is the quality of the songs and in this regard the end results come up short of their previous works. The opening two tracks--"Alien Nation" and "No Pain, No Gain" are both very heavy and two of the best songs on offer. "Someone to Touch" is uptempo and not bad at all either but "Under the Same Sun" is a blatant and weak cash-in on the success of "Wind of Change". A few of the other rockers fall into the decent but not great category, kind of a string of acceptable filler, sure its' listenable but somewhat forgettable. "Woman" and "Lonely Nights" are passable but don't reach the standards set by Scorps' ballads on previous albums. Matthias again has some nice solos on most of the tracks but something is lacking regarding the overall group execution. 72/100

pretty good release by SCORPIONS with a large budget and Bruce Fairbairn in production !the problem is that this was planned to go higher but i believe that the songs weren t as catchy as expected!otherwise this is pretty fine with strong riffs and some nice ballads!"alien nation","under the same sun","unholy alliance" and "someone to touch" are the best tunes of this one and overall a nice hard rock cd

i hate this record.i understand after many years of success all over the world, they want to change,and they don t want make always the same album.but ...here i can t.where are the fantastic melodies who scotched you at the first spin?missing.not for me.

This is a good album, it just came out in the wrong year. By 1993, True rock bands like this were basically a distant memory as they gave way to the Grunge movement.
