| Most middle-aged men, when confronted by a midlife crisis, will opt for a bright shiny red sportscar or a fling with a 20-year-old blond starlet. Unfortunately, the Scorpions decided to release an album instead. This album is destined for failure on all fronts, which is unfortunate, because musically it is not that bad of an album (hey, I'm trying to find *something* positive to say). It is poppy enough to alienate all but the most ardent Scorps fans, and is so blatantly attempting to reach the younger crowd of today, that they're bound to just laugh hysterically. Track By Track: - Mysterious (5:28). From the outset, one wonders "WTF is going on here?" The drum line is straight off a Backstreet Boys album. The song meanders a bit, but attempts to be a mid-tempo rocker.
- To Be No. 1 (3:57). Bronski Beat lives...at least for the first 45 seconds of the song, then breaks into a rocking chorus...and then returns to popville.
- Obsession (4:09). Few surprises (thankfully) here. A typical Scorps ballad, the unnerving aspect is the synthdrum line which just screams out that it's out of place. This really is a good track, but that synthdrum really bothers me. Yeeps!
- 10 Light Years Away (3:52). Laid back tune. This could have been on Pure Instinct. Not a bad track at all.
- Mind Like a Tree (5:34). Welcome to the '90s. Having this track follow the last one is almost a shock to the system. This is considerably heavier, with a '90s vibe running throughout, but still melodic.
- Eye to Eye (5:04). Ricky Martin, anyone? Can a song be slow and poppy? Evidently the answer is "yes". The chorus just absolutely SCREAMS vintage Pet Shop Boys....Scorps and PSB? Oy vey.
- What U Give U Get Back (5:02). Oh look at the pretty flowers. Isn't that nice? It starts of so syruppy you want to gag, but the chorus is actually pretty good. Slow mid-tempo track.
- Skywriter (4:55). After droning through a rather nondescript verse, we get to a chorus which isn't bad, although somewhat Abba-esque. A rather "campy" tune.
- Yellow Butterfly (5:44). From campy we jump into the psychedelegrunge that has been popular as of late. This track jumps from lite and fluffy verses to a heavier '90s-style chorus, and back. It doesn't work, and frankly, I couldn't give a crap about Klaus's preoccupation with butterflies.
- Freshly Squeezed (3:58). As the title suggests, by this point in the album, my brain is freshly squeezed, not to mention my ears. This track I just find annoying. Maybe you'll hear it in one of the clubs. Ick.
- Priscilla (3:17). Take a Beatles-esque triteness lyrically and put it to a '90s beat with Klaus talk-singing much of the verses. The chorus isn't bad, but oy.
- Du Bist So Schmutzig (3:55). Oh goody. A song in German. "You are so dirty", for the uninitiated. It starts out a nice soft ditty, and then the chorus jumps into this heavy shouting kinda like a rap wannabe. I think most people can do without this track.
- Aleyah (4:19). Alice in Chains, meet Klaus Meine. The chorus at times has promise, but then veers off into grungeville.
- A Moment in a Million Years (3:38). Straight-forward ballad. Almost poignant. Strings and piano...thankfully no synthdrum. Actually a decent track.
I wanted to like this album. I can't do it. I suppose if I didn't know the group that released it, I wouldn't be as upset. For a '90s pop/rock album, it's not that bad. For the Scorpions faithful: "Move along folks, nothing to see here...move along folks." It is NOT anything like any previous Scorpions album. If you are considering getting this based on your like of prior Scorps work, I suggest you listen before you purchase. Aside: Is it just me, or is Klaus Meine starting to look more and more like Danny DeVito? Rating: 58/100

| I was very disapointed with this one it is just not the same Scorpions.I haven't even listened to all of this album.The only song worth listining to is A Moment In A Million Years.This is not rock or metal its crap.

| Back in the 70's the Scorps sounded like Black Sabbath. In the the 80's the Scorps did their pop metal/melodic hard rock thing. In the 90's the band continually experimented everything from L.A. metal ('Face The Heat'), lighter rock ('Pure Instinct'), and went over the edge with industrial pop on 'Eye II Eye'. Now through the millenium the band has experimented with "unplugging" on their classic songs & has even begun performing with orchestras. A diverse band but I can't say that I like it all.

| Now all the fans (including ME) want to hear the Scorpions rock. No more bullshit. The truth is, none of us that love 'Crazy World', 'Love At First Sting' or 'Savage Amusement' want to hear the Scorpions do techno or anything else besides rock and roll. That's what we want. But it looks like that might just be what the band is planning on doing now. They have reunited with their longtime producer Dieter Derks and are going to work on a new studio album in 2003. This should be very interesting...

| Dokken, where did you hear this news about Scorps next album? That sounds very promising. Although I truly think they could really put out an awesome metal disc if they hooked up with Roy Z (Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, Halford. Still, cool to hear that they may finally be getting back to rock.

| Sounded like a refreshed band with their eyes on the pop charts. "To Be No. 1" gives away their intentions perhaps. Unfortunately, the world already had a Hanson by this point. This CD was on Koch because that's what it sucked... kock. Nice try guess but what happened to rocking like a hurricane. This rocks like a stale fart.

| The only song on this album that even comes close to sounding like classic Scorps is "Priscilla". When I first saw this cd in the store, my first thought was "Why did they put these old guys on the cover?" It took me a few seconds to realize it was a picture of the band! True story.

| Yes, this is an interesting release. It is Pop, theres not much that shreads here and when it does it stuffed up by pissy plastic sounding arrangements. The ballads are still good I feel but for rock content, go elsewhere. This is not the scorpions we know but as a pop album has some value.

| No doy credito al oir este disco. No es por el estilo, ni por que las canciones puedan o no ser malas...es por la instrumentación; si es que en ocasiones parece que un niño este tocando su organo Casio de juguete. ¡¡¡Parece una broma¡¡¡. En definitiva, una demostración palpable de que los Scorpions no tienen ni idea de usar las "nuevas" tecnologias.

| Ok here goes......This is a GREAT! album. But its not "Real" Scorpions album. The songs are well crafted & and the production is good, Obsession had it been arranged a little differently chould have been a power ballad on Savage Amusement. | Essentially this was an attempt by the Scorpions to make a modern-sounding album. They had been criticized for years for their albums all sounding pretty much the same. What they wound up doing by recording this was alienating their long established fan base, without bringing any new fans into the fold. A flop on every level. I don't mind a band progressing, but the Scorps are way out of their element here. An old dog could really get hurt trying new tricks.

| The 'last' Scorpions album was Blackout...........After that they stopped existing. They turned into a comedy,a whistling bunch of clowns. I saw them as a warm up band in 1974 for the Sweet. They were ok. nothing more. later they made 3-4 good albums, not more. they made Blackout which is outstanding...........and then turned into a load of shit.

| Other than "Aleyah", "A Moment In A Million Years" and "A Mind Like A Tree", there is nothing here that is even redeeming. The above tracks are not good, but are the best of a terrible album. The "syrupy", to steal Dan's word, tracks are the worst they have ever done. And the drum machine has got to go. Not recommended.

| I can definitely understand why everyone hates this album>However I usually end liking experimental albums disliked by almost everybody.This album beings with the catchy Mysterious with it's unusual solo and heavy reverb chorus, and is followed by the ridiculous, yet catchy To Be No.1,and next is the commercial liss of Obessesion, actualy there isn't a bad song on here, although Prisilla with it's dumb lyrics comes pretty damn close.overall a better album than many people give it credit for

Mixed comments above and surely quite understandable ones...this "experiment" of The Scorpions brought some kind of "haters & lovers" to the band itself at that stage...many factors were involved here like for example the year it was released(1999 was a year of this type of "modern rock sounds" and "indutrial tribal noise" that somehow,one way or the other,caught the Scorps by its legs)and most likely,as another factor,is that at that stage the band was a bit "burnt" in creativeness...anyway for me this album has some decency in songs such as "Mysterious","Obsession"(nice),"Mind Like A Tree","Eye To Eye","Skywriter","Yellow Butterfly" & "Aleyah"...75/100

| Well here we have it; it took them long enough but Scorpions finally created and released a truly poor album; not just a mediocre one like Face The Heat, but one with very few redeeming qualities. Going experimental under the Scorpions banner was a poor decision and did not work out for the best. The album has no firm direction; the band opted to try their hand at a bunch of styles (Which don't mesh well with their usual sound) and splatter them all onto one album. The rockers (If you can call them that) suffer the most as they range from mediocre (Aleyah) to generic (Priscilla) to absurd. (Freshly Squeezed) The ballads sound more in line with normal Scorps material but still are fairly weak; "Ten Light Years Away" and the title track are not awful but they don't beg the repeat button either. Songs like "Mysterious", "Yellow Butterfly", "Moment", and "Skywriter" have mild elements that I enjoy but that hardly salvages this disjointed album as a whole. 56/100
