This is like a hard rock version of Journey. I admit they are more consistant but I don't think they top Journey's best efforts. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this cd.

Despite their name, these guys are anything but zeros. This is excellent melodic hard rock, clean, smooth, and polished without sounding too AORish. The band's style should appeal to fans of Wild Frontier, Jaded Heart, Takara, and bands of that nature. There are some strong hooks to be heard here, along with good choruses and plenty of harmony vocals. This CD may be tough and (usually) expensive to find, but it's well worth the time, effort, and money.

As a matter of interest, my personal copy is a double-cd. The second one entitled "Zeroplugged" contains three acoustic songs: "Crying Out For Mercy", "Johnny's On The Run" (previously unreleased) and "Eternally Yours". Honestly, I don't know if mine was a limited edition cd or not.

The Euro release comes with a bonus disc, unlike the Japanese version. It is not a ltd edition.

As is the case a lot on this site, the E-Bay average is way off! CD sells for more like $40 and will continue to go up! Why? Totally friggin' awesome hard rock similar to Jaded Heart/Fair Warning on speed! I believe there is a European short-run that featured a bonus disc? Perhaps of live material? Also available on the long extinct Zero label from Japan. Worth every penny no matter which one you buy!

I found this Album (2CDBox) more than 10x here in Switzerland for less than 9$. But i know the Price for this CD is too high by Rock- Music-Traders outside Switzerland. Try it on Streetmarkets or "Broccante" here in CH and you will find Music likes "Transit, Satrox, Emergency, China, Zerop, and many more old Swissbands. Look also Zerop´s Angi Schilliro´s "White Lady" album 1 & 2! They are likes Satriani, Malmsteen - Zerop Style! Highly recommended!

In my opinion, one of the tps five melodic hard rock albums of all time. I only have it on CDR but am overly envious of all here picking it up for really cheap. Flawless musicianship, ballsy as a freight train, beautiful vocals... and the guitars! Those riffs! Hooks so big some of them cause pain, but only in a good way. A true masterpeice and the biggest shame in the world there is only the one CD. The 3 track acoustic bonus is nothing short of haunting. Amazing band!

Not really impressed about this cd.Indeed production and some song are really good, but I find some fillers.I think Fair Warning are really another thing,IMO.BTW solid good release but not awesome...Switzerland is a great nation for this kind of music.

Ah, z4roxx, I see a few differences in our tastes arising here. I kept quiet about Vain as they're one of my favourite bands ever, but these guys are probably one of my top 3 bands of all time! 'Waiting for Your Love' is melodic hard rock heaven, as is 'Cryin' Out for Mercy', 'The One and Only', the sensational and breathtaking literally 'Breathless' and of course 'Eternally Yours', and whilst I see you might consider some fillers, I think the perfect musicianship makes all songs awesome IMO

Geoff, tomorrow I'll re-hear this cd,I think I've listened the last time 3 or 4 years ago,too much time passed but I have too many cd to listen ahahaha!!But I want to listen again it....Vain sucks!!What a poor band without any ideas and with samey songs on an horrible production.

From: Geoff |
Date: February 12, 2005 at 0:27 |
Oh no z4roxx, you're hurting me. In reference to this CD, please do listen again. The musicianship is just mind blowing, vocals are perfect, drums are massive, song arrangements and hooks are beyond stunning... f*ck it's good!!! Vain have no ideas and samey songs? You're lucky I like you mate or I'd be getting tense by now. IMO, Davy writes some of the most unique and variable (See 'No respect' - driving hard rock / 'Move on it'- mellow hook filled rock) songs in hard rock. A musical genius!

Geoff,I want to show you an example:take Cadillac Bratz,ok is not the 100% right comparrison with Vain but I love them and I find it very original and stunning release as indie, and you don't like so much as you wrote.I find C.B. a superb release with catchy killer tracks well arranged/played.It's so strange because we have very similar tastes,IMO(about Journey for ex. and other cd's we both like)but I'm very surprised you like so much these Vain but...I want to listen again this band tonight.

From: Geoff |
Date: February 12, 2005 at 19:09 |
Sorry folk, this not the place to speak of Vain, but just want to mention that C.B. are good to me, only one track I truly love, but Vain is just a whole musical experience to me. I think Davy is a truly gifted songwriter (See the entire 'Move on it' CD) and 'No Respect' and 'All those strangers' are, IMO, leagues ahead of any similar sort of hard rock. Awesome lyrics, mind-blowing hooks and great musicianship. I honestly cannot ask for more and think the first three albums are perfect- 0 filler

Dear Geoff,I must admit my change of ideas and give to you 100% reason about this one.Awesome band, solid&great production, outstanding vocals and perfect choruses arrangements.Guitar works are excellent and drums is strong and clean. They touch several styles and join in a perfect way elements of Transit,Jaded Heart,Fair Warning and Terra Nova gettin'a great and original results.Indeed top band and one of my fave cd.Maybe many years ago I had different tastes by now and this cd didn't impresse me.

Good to hear z4roxx. I'm certainly not here to change anyone's musical opinions and only reply to comments on the same disc more than once very few times, but I have all the faith in the world in this disc. I honestly believe they are in the top 5 bands of the entire genre and as you say, the vocals, musicianship, arrangements, choruses (equipped with huge harmony vocals), drums, perfect guitar - everything is out of this world on this CD! I'd still treasure an original copy too

Just got the re-issue of this, and it sounds appalling. Was the original like this? The mix is awful and the whole thing just sounds too bassy. Stunning album though, and fans of Jaded Heart/Fair Warning will love the powerful vocals and incredible guitars (remember the first time you heard Whitesnake's "1987" album?). "No Time for Lyin'" is melodic heaven with a guitar solo sent from the Gods. "Space Shuffle" is killer hard rock. Magnificent album, spoilt by a horrific mix/mastering. 9.5/10.

Good Hard Melodic album, decente banda suiza algo como China(pero no tan buena ya que ellos son lo mejor de ese pais de lejos) o Gotthard, si te gustan bandas asi este disco te caera de perilla, Breathless, Cryin' Out for Mercy, Zerock o Last of the Teenage los mejores cortes para mi gusto, nada grande solamente un decente album, dificil camino para las bandas suizas con la sombra de China.

I have to agree with TIM(2)'s comment with regard to the bassy production especially when played at a low volume, it sounds a lot better with bass turned down some and played at a higher volume so the bass speakers compensate and it doesn't boom as much. But what a magic album though. They remind me a little of Cry Wolf but 10x better both in songs and performance. Huge riffs and great vocals plus some super tunes. Really pleased that twas grabbed. Window down at the traffic lights time!

pretty good hard rock release for ZERO with sensational guitar work ,fine vocals and ok songs but not any big hooks or choruses that could make it a great one!overall somehow it reminded me of VALENTINE (US) debut without being in the same level!"waiting for your love","the one and only" and "breathless" are the standout songs of this highly recommended release
