Very satisfying mid-80s AOR that sometimes sounds like Lou Gramm ("Love Grammar"), and other times, strikes the same chord as Billy Squier ("Naughty Naughty"), Robert Tepper, "Rock of Life"-era Rick Springfield or a rockier Benny Mardones. The songwriting is very solid throughout and there are no bad tracks on this CD. The version of this disc that I have contains "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)" which is like icing on the cake.

Yup, John Parr rules indeed! How could any record company press his 1st album without St. Elmo? It's not just "icing on the cake", as koogles stated, but the essence of his entire work! A TAK W OGÓLE, TO SKĄD JESTEŚ, DARIUSZ?

John's voice is really thundering, a perfect type of timbre in the 80's AOR, reminds me much of Stan Bush, James Christian, Harry Hess, David Glenn Eisley and sometimes Lou Gramm.

I heard one song titled "Making Love With A Stranger" that's not included in any John's albums. Can anybody tell me is it a soundtrack tunes like "St Elmo's Fire or just a single-released hit ?

BWH"Indonesia", I've got the track as a bonus track on the "St Elmo's Fire" single. It's not really anything special...

I have never even heard of "Making Love With A Stranger" and I have a bunch of rare Parr songs...including his song "Minute I Saw You" from Three Men And A Baby. I'm going to have to track this "Making Love With A Stranger" down now.

Another artist i've been revisiting over the past couple of weeks. This is a great debut album with some fine songs. 'Somebody Stole My Thunder'is my favourite on this - great hook on the chorus. Koogles comparisons of Billy Squier,Lou Gramm & Benny Mardones are on the button. I think (!!!!) only the European version contained 'St.Elmos Fire' while the listing above is forthe US version, as with the re-issue on One Way a few years ago.

I rememberhearing Somebody stole my thunder and thought it was a new Foreignor album for a minute, till the synth horns came in, this is a pretty good 80's album. Thunder is great as is Magical and Animal, Love Grammar got a little airplay and Naughty was the big hit, this sits along with Robert Tepper

Well, anyone who begins an album off talking about a 'close encounter of the sexual kind' gets off to a great start. 'Magical' and 'Naughty' both have great pre-choruses with weak choruses, 'Love grammer' is good, 'Revenge' is great, 'Somebody stole my thunder' is even better and 'St Elmo's Fire' is very familiar, and a cool tune. Haven't heard it for a while and I love it! The rest is good. Overall, this is again not really what I spend my time listening to, but it's good for what it is.

Este es un grandisimo disco de John Parr, personalmente el mejor, aunque el segundo le pisa los talones. Revenge sin duda es un gran tema, pero para mi Love Grammar es el mejor de este trabajo. 9/10

To me, John Parr is a great singer from 80's and 90's, as like Stan Bush. This debut album has great songs as "Don't Leave Your Mark on Me", "Somebody Stole My Thunder" and "Revenge". These songs are pure AOR. Listen it and you enjoy it!!!

Un buen disco de AOR. "Don't Leave Your Mark on Me" es un auténtico temazo, para el top 100 songs muy posiblemente.

Yeah this album definitely comes close to being an AOR gem. There is so much more to like here than the obvious standout track "Naughty Naughty". "Love Grammar" has the appropriate cool soft keys intro that seems it had been lifted from an 80's Foreigner album while "She's Gonna Love You to Death" has a definite heartfelt vibe with an almost westcoast feel to it that makes your foot tap. Nearly essential for AOR addicts.

Undusted my vinyl and gave it another "spin"...pleasant debut by John Parr but i prefer his second effort "Running The Endless Mile" than this one but wait!...in here you can find his all time classic "St Elmo's Fire"(not listed on the album set here ) which is an outstanding composition and probably his most succesful song ever!!! ...anyway apart from the aforementioned one we have in here such goodies like "Naughty Naughty","Love Grammar","She's Gonna Love You To Death","Revenge","Somebody Stole My Thunder" & "Don't Leave Your Mark On Me"(brilliant!)...good to have this one too though .91/100
