Rush had yet to make their first truly great record, but this was certainly not a bad one. Still more effective in short form ("Bastille Day" and "Lakeside Park") than with long-winded progressive numbers, that would soon change with 2112.

Neil Pearts second effort & the epics are starting to flow. Fountain of Lamneth & the Necromancer are hidden treasures in the Rush archives & are adored by the true Rush faithful. An excellent record to listen to front to back- close your eyes & let the music of this great Canadian trio take your mind for a ride! Sheer bliss is where they've taken me & I've never looked back. What a band! Inimitable,- Geddy's bass playing seems to become more intricate when he's singing! Listen to the time signa

The time signature changes are astounding and have become an earmark of Neil Peart. "Bastille Day", "Lakeside Park", "The Necromancer" and "Fountain Of Lamneth" are awesome rockers in the purest form. Very guitar-driven prog with the aforementioned time changes and the band remain tight in the playing. Great stuff but the best is yet to come.

With the addition of Peart the band would adapt to off-beats and beats nicely. Stripped and clean and raw, this is a remarkable work for Rush.

"No One at the Bridge" & "Bacchus Plateau", edits from "The Fountain of Lamneth" & "Lakeside Park" are three of the greatest songs ever penned by this trio. The lyrics touch my heart. Lifeson's guitar tone is beautiful. Peart's drum tone is spooky good. Lee's bass sound is that of a farting troll; plush grunts of a seasoned Rickenbacker. "Caress of Steel" is perfect with a few sips of tequila. This cd is too good for Rush to have archived all the songs from their play lists. Wonderful record!
