3rd release and still churning out the classics (Surrender, California Man, Heaven Tonight etc) many of which remain as staple diets in the set to this day. Another must have for the collection

The band is hitting on all cylinders with this release. This was helped by the inclusion of 'Surrender' in the terrible Matt Dillon flick 'Over The Edge'.

From: Harvey Date: November 26, 2003 at 18:15
Absolute classic and up there with the best 70's American hard rock albums (think Aerosmith's Toys In The Attic, Van Halen I, Doobie Brothers What Were Once Vices Are Habits).Remarkable.

i usually don't post things on the web, but people need to know that this is a great album from a commercial AND critical standpoint. 'surrender' and 'stiff competition' are perfect and each track has its own personality, plus the whole disc is more cohesive than their first album (though that one's a 10 as well). It's amazing how many people rip on AOR/late70s/80s pop-rock and power pop for not having personality when voices like Zander's exude just that! Any true rocker owns this and their 1st

Definitively. one of the 10 records i'd take with me to a desert island. Incredible songs, unbeliebable melodies and chorus... This Lp has EVERYTHING to consider it a real Masterpiece.

From: Big Papa K Date: July 13, 2004 at 17:06
Another essential album put out by the band. 'Surrender' is their finest moments, capturing everything that is great about the band into one song. But don't think that this is a one song album. Everything on here is strong from the title track to the cover of 'California Man'. 9/10

Or is this their best ? Hmm . . . , all great songs here ! A clear winner ! Truly brilliant record !!!

So far,I've only posted about albums that I really love, and this is no exception. Cheap Trick were such a great band, especially 1st three releases.Heaven Tonight was their crowning acheivement. This is truly an American classic!I agree with Jose, this is one of the 10 I'd take with me to a deserted island.A major slice of great rock history. All tracks are great, but Surrender, Auf Wiedersehn,On Top Of The World are standouts among an album full of standouts. All rock fans should have this album!

From: pt88 Date: March 1, 2005 at 15:53
No Live at Budokan ! That's weird. Classic record...the memories !

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 14, 2014 at 23:44
album but never superior than its previous one 'In Color' and a bit better than its debut but at the end is the same formula ...'Surrender' was a hit single back then, some other fine moments are tracks 2,5,6,9 & 10...78/100
