One of the top 5 CDs in my collection, and would be higher if they'd left off the Bill Cantos' track at the end (which presumably was recorded later than the rest). If this CD had ended with the track "Tonight Youre Mine" from the new "Gems Unearthed" CD then this would be THE ultimate.

Just bought the re-issue of this. The last track is a song titled "Dreamers" and not "Ever After Love" as listed here.Totally amazing album!!. Is the material on "Gems Unearthed" as good as this ?

From: TIM (2) |

Rocketron: "Gems Unearthed" is definitely not as good as this (but then, what is?), and it's easy to see why they left most of it off here. They're rough mixes of some of these tracks, other unreleased tracks, and one from Cliff Magness' "Solo" album. A few decent tracks but it's not a cohesive album, and the sound quality is ropey at best. Unless you see it dirt cheap I would stick to playing this, and make sure you have Cliff Magness' magnificent "Solo" too as it's every bit as good as this...

TIM(2). Managed to get the Clif Magness "Solo" CD. Agree it is as good as this. Any idea what the Jay Graydon solo stuff is like ? He is not listed on this site. Cheers.

Cliff Magness is a great songwriter/producer. His involvement in other projects have led to me buying great pop/rock albums like O-Town's 2nd, Clay Aiken. Graydon's famed for soul and mowtown work largely, but in the westcoast field he made the 'Airplay' album, which is very dated (1979),"Airplay for the Planet" is decent w/c album, but not in the Planet 3/"Solo" league by any stretch. If you love Chicago/King of Hearts/L.A Cowboys etc then you'll like Graydon's stuff, but it's not really AOR.

Classy West coast AOR. Lush keys and fantastic guitars highlight this awesomely played disc. The musicianship is top notch and production is clear and crisp. "Criminal" and "Welcome To Love" highlight an ingenius disc. Great stuff.

Hi tech West coast AOR of the finest sort with just the right amount of guitar bite to maintain the interest level. Unfortunately their recent "Gems unearthed" is very bland. What a disappointment!

Thanks Z4roxx, Just got the Jap pressing and "I Will be Loving" you is just an unbelievable ballad. Everyone who owns this but hates the Bill Cantos track on the end ought to seek out the "Heart from a Big Machine Release" to get this MONSTER track. The Jap version of this CD is a 10/10 IMO.

POR FIN he escuchado esta joya! Esperaba mucho de este disco y no me ha defraudado en absoluto. Incluso me gusta más que el de Magness en solitario, aunque suenan distintos, este es mas suave. Born to Love, Welcome to love, The Day the Earth Stood Still ...

Despues de oirlo un par de veces, descubro un fantastico disco temas como esas joyas west-coast "Insincere",(escarapelante cancion),"The Day the Earth Stood Still",(T-bell,Chicago,Michael Mc.donald, Ray parker junior, etc )"Only Your Eyes",o la radiante "From the Beginning" van directas al corazon, aunque es cierto por momentos caen en melodias pop, el esquema de AOR sofisticado y elegante esta muy presente. Wonderfull piece.

OUTSTANDING slab of WestCoast AOR (best genre ever!), Better than TOTO or Chicago? well...(maybe) YEAH! This album is simply amazing, the magic it has, the wizardy of the musicians (amazing studio musicians), and Cliff Magness voice just takes this album straight to HEAVEN. The emotional ''Insincere'' is the greatest ballad of all time, Criminal (gotta love it!)is another treasure, not a filler here, just classics. OUT OF THIS WORLD! 1000/1000

This is a piece of music with Ingredients of everything we like : AOR, westcoast and some hi tech moments (1st song). Of course, no hard rock or metal. In fact, I think brilliant tracks like "Born to love" or everything else from the (better) first half of the album is perfect pure AOR, maybe a little westcoasish compared to classic AOR songs from BENNY MARDONES, OUTSIDE EDGE, VAN STEPHENSON, LIONHEART, STRANGEWAYS etc. etc., so descrition WC AOR is totally right. 87/100

WESTCOAST AOR MASTER PIECE!! A beautiful album, with amazing musicianship, compositions and a smooth and intense style. I consider this album as a part of the Graydon, Ballard and Magness Family Tree, i mean, because all their albums are related. And talking about this album, what more can i say? In this record we can find those Westcoast touches which mixed with the best Lite AOR melodies, by the way, made by genius like Graydon at his highest level and a true AOR legend singer like Clif Magness. Magness voice is a blend of Joseph Williams and Bryan Adams...

which brings that passion and feeling to the album. The sound of this album goes in a very TOTO(Joseph Williams era), CHICAGO and L.A. COWBOYS vein, with a little more Pop oriented style, but with great taste. A very solid album, plenty of melodies and hooks with songs like "Born To love" (catchy and dinamic), "From The Beginning", "Welcome To Love", the astonishing "Criminal" and one of the most beautiful ballads that i have ever heard in my entire life: "Insincere": wow what a feeling and what a passionate song!!. Great Album

this is a great album. It is available via Jay Graydon's website at normal price so you don't have to pay through the roof plus v important to note the sound quality is far better on this version than on any other release cause it is seriously remastered by Jay who I am now convinced is a very good mastering engineer after hearing several albums he has just greatly improved on. The song Dreamers (which is the new bonus track on the Graydon website release) is also my favourite ending song of all (each region had a different 10th song and Jay Graydonhas continued the tradition). It reminds of Richard Page Broken Wings. I actually like the Bill Cantos song a lot however, unlike most people or so it would seem. It reminds me of Airplay or something. It definately sounds a bit odd as the ending but I like it and I like the cover art best to this sweden version (even though most will say the Japan art is the best). Of course, I will be loving you I like too (japan 10th song).

SO...for informational purposes. Original release of this album was 1991 in Japan only. It was called 'Planet 3- Heart From The Big Machine' (10th song; I will be loving You), In 1992 it was then released in Sweden by sony music. In Sweden it was retitled 'Planet 3- Music From The Planet, Featuring Jay Graydon' (all songs were the same except for the 10th song. The 'unique 10th song' for sweden's release was 'Ever After Love'. Cover art for sweden release was the moon like planet with face/space floor. Shortly thereafter it was released in Germany too by 'Beverly records', with yet another cover design. A Yellow/Blue/Red design with photography of the sea and birds. Last song was the same as the sweden version (ever after love) and the title was the same except that now it was 'Jay Graydon, featuring Planet 3- music from the Planet'....then....finally......

There is the welcomed 4th version which is the USA 'remaster' as talked about at the start (unique new 10th song: Dreamers) - a Great ending song and great remastering to the album. Try to get this version whatever you do, because the sound is so much more impacting. 10/10 for westcoast fans

A very pleasant Westcoast/Hi-Tech AOR release...some songs remind me of Chicago(especially the ballads or softies) and Al Jarreau("Ever After Love",a nice song)..."Born To Love","From The Beginning"(catchy),"Criminal"(the best song of the album IMO)& "Modern Girl"(powerful Hi-Tech AOR beat) are such songs that will draw a in your face of happiness...87/100
