My Devotion,Valdez,Better With A Broken Heart, etc.

hey! this is one of my heroes.very few guys out there can write lyrics like mark does.... and it shows!.many top aor acts have used the services of mr spiro for that reason how about:bad english, house of lords or giant for credentials!.this is the follow up to the classic now is then, then is now album;the sound has become a little more tougher but those catchy choruses are still a plenty so if youve never heard of mark spiro before(wich i doubt)find out why he is one of the best talents around.

Another super CD from one of the best songwriters ever. This is classic hard driven AOR, just the way I like it ! I'm waiting to hear his new CD, but this one is pure heaven. Listen to the title song and you know what I mean. Hard, melodic, strong hooks and riffs. Brilliant !

From: Rycheage Date: June 23, 2003 at 18:46
This album is 13 tracks of pure AOR brilliance. If you liked the last album, you will love this. If you found the last album okay - you will love this this. If you wanted a few more guitars - you got 'em!! This is a great American AOR super album.

From: freddy de keyze Date: June 24, 2003 at 5:08
Right, Rycheage, this is fantastic hard hitting AOR ! Brilliant indeed !

From: Ardian Date: June 24, 2003 at 6:10
The songwriting is great without a doubt, and so are the guitar playing from Huff, Landau and Pierce, but it would have been be better if Spiro used real drums instead of the programming. Still a very good release. 8.5 out of 10 from me.

Indeed, a brilliant AOR release by a brilliant artist ! The man should be worldfamous ! He's more talented than lots of artists high in the polls ! Fantastic stuff, you have to hear !!!

No words can describe. It's a masterpiece. My favourite is "Better With A Broken Heart".

From: AOR freaky Date: August 24, 2004 at 14:59
Indeed, his best effort ever. Indeed a MASTERPIECE !!!

From: Geoff Date: August 24, 2004 at 20:50
Yeah I got to agree with My Indonesia. 'Better with a broken heart' is also my fave off this one. What a song! I also love 'Don't leave me in love', but overall I can probably say this is my fave Mark Spiro release. A bit more variation, I feel. Great songs and an always brilliant lyricist.

What abot 'Now Is Then, Then is Now' - without a doubt Mark Spiro's finest moment.

From: AOR freaky Date: August 25, 2004 at 5:29
Yes, Jez, Now Is Then, Then is Now is also brilliant, but this one beats it !

From: TIM (2) Date: August 25, 2004 at 5:51
I prefer both "Stuff that Dreams are Made of..." and "Now is then..." to this, although they're all great albums. "Better with a Broken Heart" is on Ochsenknecht's album (German AOR vocalist) and he sings it better, as does Dan Huff with "Don't Leave Me in Love". "Valdez" is probably my fave song on this, awesome lyrics. This is the album where I started to notice things getting a little samey with his songwriting, and the production started to take a downturn. Great songs though. 8/10.

From: bdrums1971 Date: August 27, 2004 at 21:13
Wanted to add my 2 cents. Don't leave me in love and Better with a broken heart are great songs but were done much better by Giant and Stephen Biship (song title Kari from Bowling in Paris). Again, I like what Mark is trying to do with the AOR style, but it just doesn't do it for me. Lack of a live rhythm section could be it, or the (again) strange vocal effect on his voice. The lyrics can sometimes get corny to me. I mean it's good stuff, just not fantastic for me. Of course, just my opinion.

Brilliant record , one of my favorite . I like sound of Mark´s voice . One of best songwriters in this crazy world . But i think , that Giant version of "Don't Leave Me in Love" is bestest . My favorite song : " Desert Bloom " . Thanx God for this CD .

Great album Quality AOR, but the sound mixing is a little odd.

My Devotion y Better with a broken heart... BUENISIMOS!

From: juan carlos Date: October 4, 2007 at 12:11
Mis favoritas? pues diría casi todo el album pero "Rhythm of You" "Don't Leave Me in Love"(vaya versión!) "Better With a Broken Heart" "Time Keeps Ticking" "Love Is War"(=Giant) "My Devotion"... Grande Maestro! 9.4/10

Another one where the first track rocks, it's a great song and I was looking forward to the rest of the album. I had to wait for 'Kiss the World Away' for another song I liked and that was it. Vocals are very good, I just didn't like most of the songs. Many other reviewers here thought the songwriting was very good, so maybe I'm just missing something. On the plus side, I'll be listening to 'My Devotion' many times!

A little bit less consistant than his previews album Now Is Then,Then Is Now but still showing some good stuff surely!..in my personal opinion this one lacks a bit of inspiration but as i said, still good enough to buy and enjoy..my faves were "Kiss The World Away","Better With A Broken Heart" and "Valdez"...another highlights are the opening track "My Devotion","Rhythm Of You","The Rain Came Tumblin' Down","Campbell River Road" a very smooth and nice song and "Desert Bloon"...Mark Spiro is a musician that could be spotted along with AOR luminaires such as Stan Bush,Robert Tepper,Robert Hart and Benny Mardones to name some..90/100

From: tomdwa Date: June 5, 2020 at 20:08
The absence of a 'real' rhythm section penalises this one heavily I'm afraid (the bass and the drums are programmed, and they sound awfully generic). And the below par production quality doesn't solve the problem, obviously. Love is war is a good track though, and some other songs show promise too but are ruined soundwise. Pity...
