If you just get it for Oh Sherrie and Foolish Heart it's well worth it. Why he couldn't have done these tunes with Journey I'll never know. This album sounds like them in most aspects.

Tremendous tunes (not a filler on this) Tremendous playing and Perry's voice. Not alot else you need really. A Great 'Lite' AOR release , and a personal fave.

From: Axelinger Date: November 27, 2002 at 3:22
Waddy Wachtel's 'solo' on Oh Sherrie is about as amateurish as it gets... And this guy is supposed to be in demand as a hotshit session man? Landau could've mailed in a better solo in his sleep...

From: freddy de keyze Date: December 2, 2002 at 3:51
Good stuff, but a bit too soft and too many ballads. Not a classic !

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 19, 2003 at 15:57
oh boy!!! that voice still sends shivers down my spine.

From: James Date: January 19, 2003 at 16:52
What a great voice packed into such a person with a bad attitude. There is no doubt he has some great pipes on him but how can he say he felt like he was never part of the group (Journey)????? Overall a soft AOR cd that I have to be in a certain mood for.

From: Gar Date: January 23, 2003 at 17:23
'Oh Sherrie' and 'Foolish Heart' are classics. The rest of the songs are pretty good, albeit slightly forgettable. His 2nd solo album was better overall, but it didn't really have any standout songs like his 1st.

I know the AOR loyalists love Captain Schmaltzy here, but having Steve Perry and Love/Hate on the same site is like having The Pokemon Movie and hardcore German porn on the same shelf. As for the album, who cares? When you have stuff like Shotgun Messiah, TKO, Blue Murder and Steelheart to listen to why would you even consider Mr. Perry? Music to get hyped up, for a tupperware party! And what 'Street' is he referring to? OK, I'll stop.

From: Gar Date: January 29, 2003 at 0:37
Yeah, he is responsible for some schmaltz. But I think he has one of the best voices in the history of popular music, despite the fact that a lot of his material is on the softer side. He's capable of rocking out though. Listen to 'Back Talk' by Journey(off the FRONTIERS album).

From: koogles Date: January 29, 2003 at 5:02
Go back to your Pokemon or hardcore German gay porn, TT. Those seem like your true areas of expertise, seeing as you wouldn't know good music if it hit you across the face with a tupperware container.

Mr. Perry is my 'once in a lifetime' vocalist.I've never been more moved by a singer.

AWESOME debut album this guys voice is incredible even out of journey he can still deliver the goods here, there's not a bad song on the album so if you haven't got this album yet i suggest you go out and buy it NOW.

From: AOR freaky Date: August 4, 2004 at 15:30
Good songs, good voice, but no power, no rock at all ! It's pop, ladies and gentlemen. When will people realise this guy is overrated, just as Journey is ? ! You may be a fan, but you also have to be HONEST !!!!!! And FACTS are FACTS ! This is more pop than AOR !

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: August 24, 2004 at 10:19
His voice is undisputed. Everyone who understands good music knows it. Steve, you're one of the greatest.

Perfect AOR Album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A super album whit the greatest singer in the world.

From: Nick C Date: April 20, 2005 at 20:08
It's tuff to pick out a favourite Steve Perry solo album from his prolific output of two! but I think this has the edge over Medicine. It seems ...hmmm...less contrived if that is the right word. It's just a singer doing what he enjoys without having to pander to what anyone else expects of him. He wears his influences on his sleeve here and his vocal phrasing in many places is so reminiscent of his admitted influence Sam Cooke! Soulful AOR / MOR. Brilliant!

From: victordeaor Date: September 15, 2005 at 5:30
Escuchar la voz del mejor cantante de AOR (bajo mi humilde opinion) siempre merece la pena. El disco aun y con todo lleva una linea mas soft que los Journey de la epoca. Un saludo

From: BigCock Date: April 22, 2007 at 0:40
"Oh Sherrie" is the sh!t. You could have plopped that onto any Journey disc and it would have been considered one of their Greatest Hits. "Foolish Heart" sounds like it could have easily taken "Back Talk"'s place on Frontiers to make it an even better album than it already was. As TIM said, if you get the disc just for those 2 songs, you got your money's worth!

From: juan carlos Date: September 26, 2007 at 1:49
Y nadie(casi) habla de "Captured By the Moment" AOR del Cielo!! "You Should Be Happy" y sobretodo "Running Alone" de mis preferidas. Ýa está en una zona muy especial de mi colección.. STEVE PERRY = THE BEST . 10/10

From: z4roxx Date: October 19, 2007 at 12:33
A little soft and dated for me but this sounds ok,maybe I prefer this one than the next one....

From: miki Date: June 3, 2008 at 9:52
What a voice! I think Mr Perry is one of the few singer that can truly interpret a song. He has the ability to use the right voice in the right moment; he can recreate the right mood of the meanings of every word he sings! Simply great. Try to listen Foolish heart or captured by the moment... then you'll understand what I mean.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: November 21, 2010 at 9:54
Great debut,a lot softer than his For The Love Of Strange Medicine(which i consider amazing!) but still a great debut!!! ...excellent tracks with a more or may a say "poppy" feel but with obviously the AOR spark that we all love!!! ..."Oh Sherrie" (a friendly fm radio hit back in the day),"Foolish Heart"(another friendly fm radio hit,a touchy and emotive ballad,a classic nowadays),"She's Mine"(great),"You Should Be Happy","Captured By The Moment","Strung Out"...1984...what can i say..magic..whole lotta magic...Steve Perry's without any doubts, one of the best singers ever!!!.90/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: August 9, 2014 at 11:27
One of the early comments says this is "music to get hyped up for a Tupperweare party." The Steve Perry fanboys and AOR wimps lost their mud, but it's pretty much true. This is music you hear at the dentist office or waiting on hold with the bank. Sure, Perry's voice is iconic, but on "She's Mine" he sounds AWFUL! Gasping, shrill, souding like an old woman. Plus, the song itself wouldn't put a drop of fear in the heart of anybody trying to steal his girl, as it's intended. What did Steve Perry say to Michael Bolton when they got off the eleevator? "Man, that place rocked!" And Bolton said, "Zip your pants, Steve."
