at the time ,this was one hell of a comeback album by the voice of journey after the 1984 album street talk.this album received a lot of rave reviews during that time.i remember way back in 1994 one of the biggest enigmas in everybodys lips was if he could top journeys albums by his own and the asnwer....well i guess thats something you should find out fo yourself....i certainly know mine!.

From: Great Dane Date: April 1, 2003 at 20:18
Ive given this cd tons of chances, but I just hate it. He sings like like shit. Through the nose. Uhh I hate it. The production is fine though. No personality, just plain 'neatness' Sorry.

From: Gar Date: April 3, 2003 at 3:49
I think that overall its slightly better than STREET TALK, but it lacks the real standout songs that STREET TALK had. There's less filler on this one as the songs are all pretty good. The problem is that nothing is all that memorable. Worth having, but you'd be better off with any of the Perry-era JOURNEY albums.

From: aTomiK Date: April 7, 2003 at 9:05
Perfect album! Great production and fantastic songs.

From: Harvey Date: June 29, 2003 at 10:33
What in damnation has happened to Steve Perry? i've heard that he can't tour due to ill health, and that's why he left Journey (again) but I wonder why he isn't recording. A crying shame. Meantime, this is majestic stuff...I remember I heard an advance tape You Better Wait at full volume in a rock vlub in 1994 and it nearly took my head off...amazing.

From: ThunderDan Date: June 29, 2003 at 13:57
Harvey, if you saw the Journey 'Behind the music' 2 yrs ago you may rememeber Perry saying "I think about touring alot. Actually, I've been talking about it". But he hasn't done a damn thing! As far as recording an album? Let's see-Strang Medicine came out in 94, Street Talk in 84, so he may have a new CD out next year. He'll be right on schedule. He's got a plan similar to Boston. Remember, this is the same jerkoff that 'never really felt like part of the band' What a jackass!!

From: Chris Date: November 14, 2003 at 6:57
ThunderDan, You are supposed to be reviewing the album here, not slaggin off the greatest damned vocalist that melodic rock has ever had and ever will have. Its up to Perry whether he wants to tour or record anything, as its HIS life, and i'm sure he don't need the money. As for the album , well no matter what anyone says, if you love Journey then this album is completely for you.

From: Mallorca´s rock Date: February 19, 2004 at 9:22
muy muy bueno.... 9/10

From: T-Bone Date: March 31, 2004 at 7:19
I still wonder what kind of Strange Medicine he was on while doing this cd. It's well produced, but very mild and boring. Very easy to sleep through

From: Rockhead Date: May 18, 2004 at 7:16
The perfect CD to get down and dirty to!! Awesome melodic rock, superbly executed by the God of AOR himself. Always guaranteed to get the missus nekkid!!

From: AOR freaky Date: May 18, 2004 at 7:51
He, dear Rockhead, you say Agent is too soft and poppy for you. I respect that, but what about this one ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Can it more poppy, safe and softer than this ! ? Don't think so ! Listen to both and you will hear the difference ! I prefer Agent any day, any hour ! Better songs, more AOR and even a better singer (I know I'm saying something 'controversial' here, but honestly, I think Steve is overrated as a vocalist, although he has a unique voice).

From: Rockhead Date: May 18, 2004 at 8:11
Hi ya Freaky-compared to Agents 1st album this sounds like Slayer(LOL) Agent's debut is soooooo sticky sweet I get toothache listening to it!!. No, this is a class CD-Agent's 1st I never listen too-this quite often gets airplay because the songs have substance. I do like Agents 2nd though

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: September 10, 2004 at 5:59
It's hard to have a conversation about AOR or melodic rock without his name. Steve Perry is AOR god. Many people despised him for the so-called poppy and schmaltzy atmosphere, but everyone knows he also can rock hard. His range and timbre is fantastic. This album is a great production, with a list of great names supported it.

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: September 12, 2004 at 5:01
You're right Wotty, never equalled, and will never be.

From: Wotty Date: September 12, 2004 at 5:34
To BWH.You have a good ear, this opus or Street Talk.I think the latter,just...

From: Rycheage Date: September 12, 2004 at 14:00
I actually prefer this to 'Street Talk' but not by much. The song structures seem stronger and the writing is definitely more mature. They are both great albums, but IMO I prefer this one. BTW, Steve Perry's voice will never be equalled. Often copied but never duplicated. Great AOR.

From: Geoff Date: September 12, 2004 at 23:54
How funny! Now that AOR Freaky is finally gone I actually agree with him! I (duck for cover) never got into this album either. Some of the most boring, uninspired and hookless tunes of all time, if you ask me. It is well played and I guess if you're a fan of Steve I can see why you'd like it. But me, I have never been a big fan of his voice and certainly am not a fan of these songs either - so a big thumbs down from me! Average AOR, IMO.

From: TIM (2) Date: September 13, 2004 at 6:54
The same as journey were always a love 'em or hate 'em type of band, this solo album will be the same. Anyone who loved his voice will surely enjoy this collection of ultra-smooth AOR. This is what the Hugo albums would sound like if he was ever allowed the same recording budget, and I still love listening to this whenever the mood suits. I probably prefer 'Street Talk', and certainly play 'The Storm' S/T more than this, but this is still pure class. 8/10.

From: Wotty Date: September 13, 2004 at 6:59
Hi TIM(2).I think Street Talk just shades it out of the two albums...

From: giorgos-greece Date: December 30, 2004 at 8:15
Personal all time favourite, far more better than street talk. "You better wait" can compete journey's hits. i agree with the "schmaltzy" term , but in any case he's doing it good. Maybe Hugo keeps a copy of this record under his pillow:P Give the cd a chance and listen the most emotional Perry you'ever listened...

From: AOR Rules Date: March 3, 2005 at 14:21
It´s a shame that he doesent do any more records what a voice.

From: z4roxx Date: March 4, 2005 at 10:08
Yes,great voice but very weak cd.Not a memorable tune in 11 tracks, sorry but this cd is forgattable,IMO.5/10.

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: April 17, 2005 at 4:24
I heard an amazing news that Steve helped David Pack(ex-Ambrosia) in his solo effort. My dream has come true. This must be extraordinary. Can anybody tell me if the album has been released ?

From: Nick C Date: April 20, 2005 at 20:01
You Better Wait kicks this off with a huge chorus and great vocal hook as does Young Hearts Forever, I can't see where people reckon there are no hooks/memorable tunes on this (ouch!! stop hitting me!!). For me a test of an good album is if I can look at the track listing and remember most of the songs. I can remember how every one of them goes on this. The CD sweeps between a few rockier songs, some slightly more laid back and some ballads the final song Anyway being about his days with Journey

I saw Steve Perry in Cleveland (just chillin' or in town for something else other than a concert) and he was hanging out in The Circus (strip joint) downtown. If that is the way he gets his inspiration for music like this, someone needs to get him a lifetime pass!

a true masterpiece

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: June 29, 2007 at 20:19
AWESOME AOR ALBUM!!

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: June 29, 2007 at 20:23

From: juan carlos Date: October 3, 2007 at 1:36

versión renovada de "If You Need Me, Call Me".

Boring, sold it. If you like his voice, go and buy an old JOURNEY album!

From: hair metal again Date: November 16, 2010 at 1:44
great release by STEVE PERRY with the valuable help of the great PAUL TAYLOR in keys and songwriting.the songs need a few spins to get into them ,but the production is from the first tunes one of the best i ve ever seen.James Jimbo Barton did a fantastic job indeed!highlights are "you better wait", "young hearts forever","donna please" and "listen to your heart".good release

From: Doug Date: November 19, 2010 at 17:52
I hear he wants back in the band, now that TV show GLEE has resurrected interest in Journey. Arnel or Steve...hmmm?

From: MysticHealer Date: November 21, 2010 at 7:08
He doesn't want back in the band at all. Considering that they all hate the freakin site of each other i suggest you don't pay any attention to the crap that gets printed in the media. And as for 'Arnel or Steve', well anyone with a single brain cell shouldn't need convincing that although some 15 years or so younger, Pineda aint fit to lick Perry's ass.

From: MysticHealer Date: November 21, 2010 at 7:16
Some of the comments on here are absolutely ludicrous. Steve Perry an 'overated vocalist'??? You are completely stone freakin deaf. I suggest you check out some Journey bootlegs. What he did with his voice in a live setting was completely and utterly beyond belief. Overrated? Yeah whatever. Go get some brain cells.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: November 21, 2010 at 9:38
For me this is a very strong release..Perry's voice unique and wonderful as usual...truly and with all my respect i think that Journey has lost not completely its north because fortunately the band has had some great vocalists that somehow "substituted" the amazing Perry (Steve Augeri,Jeff Scott Soto) and now this humble guy Pineda but Perry is simple irreplaceable...anyway Steve Perry was,is and will be Journey's vocalist,no matter what...a nostalgic thought?,yes it is!...but businesses are businesses and Journey will be doing that with whomever takes the mic duties..."You Better Wait","Young Hearts Forever","I Am"(beautiful track),"Stand Up (Before It's Too Late)","Tuesday Heartache"...every track in here has a special meaning...Pineda is doing a more than decent job and i'm quite happy 4 him because he has accomplished his dream,to sing with his idols but...there's only one man 4 Journey and we all know who is he...this album?.95/100
