Fantastic pomp record, nearly on par with Styx and the mighty Roadmaster. And the good news is that a 'new' album is in the pipeline called 'The Dig'. Hope these old demos are in the same vein as this CD. A must for pomp fans !!!!!

I had this on vinyl long ago! Kudos to Rewind for the fabulous re-issue. A great piece of late 70's pomp. Some good songs in here, but quite a few where the band seems to be playing a bit out of sync with each other. Still a fine record.

i've heard part of 1 airborne song. airborne released at least 2 albums. one of them reportedly has backing vocals by kip winger, paul winger, and nate winger.

The Winger tracks can be heard on 'The Dig' cd just released on Rewind, a cd of previously unreleased demos etc, some great tracks on there aswell.

Must have played this a million times back in 79! Great album! I will definitely be looking for this on CD.

Awesome pomp. Soldier of Fortune, what a track ! get this record, now !

From: rocketron Date: November 6, 2003 at 11:31
Excellent AOR/Pomp rock.'No exception To The Rule' is an all-time classic.

From: AOR freaky Date: November 25, 2003 at 11:34
Is this the right cover ? ? ? Great pomp record, but the mighty ROADMASTER did it better (remember Sweet Music !!!!). Anyway, this is great and far better than their second one 'The Dig', which is very poor ! For this and other acts of the past : one website, the mighty 'Glory Daze' from New Zealand ! Search it at any cost at the web !

After 23 years, I'm still listening to Airborne. I have an original 1979 cassette and converted it to MP3 to keep it in tact. I wish there was a CD. The music rivals Boston, ToTo, Styx, and Foriegner.

From: Bert Date: February 9, 2004 at 23:07
Just an update to my last comment: You can also get the CD of Airborne (1979 debut) from 'Big Badd Wolf Media' (bigbaddwolf.com) for $15. It has the original 'Dawn Patrol' cover. The CD is produced by Rewind Records (2001), div of Song Haus Music, Sony Music Entertainment Inc.

The talents of this band brings together a solid melodic album. Though they are from LA, the multitracked guitar sound/tone is very similar to the Scholz/Goudreau twin attack from Boston, while the vocal harmonies could be the Nelson twins, albeit ten years earlier. Airborne's sound is quite unique, and I'm finding it difficult to describe it as the songs are unique in themselves. One thing is for sure, they know how to rock, and they know how to harmonize.

Had this on cassette back in 79, recently bought it on CD and it still rocks!

Look at all of the great albums Beau Hill produced in the 80's.

From: RichB Date: May 1, 2005 at 15:08
Fantastic album, and easily one of the greatest AOR/Pomp albums ever. Not surprising really considering the array of talent on offer. Embodies all the qualities I love about this genre, ie hard hitting guitar, stunning multi-part harmonies, tasteful keyboards, irrestible melodies etc (I'm sure you get the picture). Still find this as fresh and exciting now, as when I first heard it nearly 25 years ago.

From: Barncät Date: July 18, 2005 at 19:27
Dynamic arrangements, full vocal harmonies, and harmony guitars, all the elements of AOR at it's best. Two albums aren't enough. Where are these guys today? I want more.

One of THE great albums of the Pomp/AOR genre, with all the tracks on here still sounding a million dollars (Even better with the great Remastering). A Class band of musos aswell, all of them making their names later on,Beau Hill as Producer extraordinaire,Mike Baird & John Pierce as top session guys (Van Stephenson,Marc Jordan,I-Ten,Tane Cain,Benny Mardones etc)). Another 'Should have been huge' outfit that disappeared after one album proper. At least they left this seminal album for posterity.

Where can I find this on CD? Have looked everywhere!! Thanks!

From: Doug Date: March 25, 2008 at 17:34
From my earlier comment years ago, I just converted this album to disc. What a great release.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: November 9, 2011 at 23:20
Fantastic album with none other than nowadays producer maestro Beau Hill...great songs with a great Beau singing and backed up with outstanding backing vocalists(the choruses of the songs are really the "cream" of the album)...my faves are "Wastin' My Time","Soldier Of Fortune","Life In The City" & "Stand Up"...recommended...87/100 ...btw Jez's comment is very accurate...

FINALLY! This GREAT album is remastered and now on CD. Go get it, one of my all time favorites.

From: Doug Date: September 4, 2013 at 17:17
Just got remastered CD. Man, this album is really good. Production is as good as Boston was for that day. Listening to it now; new liner notes give good backdrop as to why this album did not take off. They were this close to opening for The Cars to promote it. Too bad. Great album though.

From: KermitTheFrog Date: January 12, 2024 at 1:47
Muscular AOR with a prog rock feel. "Soldier of Fortune" impresses.
