This album is not nearly as bad as many would have you believe. Yes, Gillan is not handling the vocals. And yes that is not a good thing. But Turner is still a fine singer. A couple of tracks, "Truth Hurts" and especially "Love Conquers All", are way too commercial, but songs like "King of Dreams", "Breakfast In Bed", and "The Cut Runs Deep" are great! All in all, brilliant musicianship production, and easily one of the best albums from the year 1990.

From: Tony Date: April 11, 2002 at 7:50
Man this album gets a lot of crap but I love it. Still listen to it to this day. Have always loved Turner's voice and unlike some Purple efforts the songs are just so tight without wandering. One of the great albums of that year by far and "King Of Dreams" might just be one of the great hard rock melodic song of all time. Turner's voice and Blackmore's guitar are perfect on that track and it has great lyrics too.

FANTASTICO!!!! JOE LYNN TURNER DEJA SU SELLO EN ESTE DISCAZO,ES EL MAS GRANDE Y ESO AQUI SE NOTA,THE CUT RUNS DEEP ES EL MEJOR EJEMPLO,ME ENCANTA!

From: Fog-hat Date: December 19, 2002 at 15:07
Once again a nice change of pace. Great production with an in your face sound. Blackmore shines on "Fire in the basement" and "The cut runs deep". My only complaint is where's the half dozen "Live" albums featuring Turner on vocals? Seriously!!!

From: koogles Date: December 19, 2002 at 16:09
This was the last great thing that Joe Lynn Turner did. I really liked the Rainbow "Bent out of Shape" release so, with the Blackmore-Glover-Turner lineup, this was almost that album re-visited. I mean, hell, this could have gone either way... been a Rainbow album or a DP album. No matter, it's great stuff led by the excellent "King of Dreams".

From: Allan Jones Date: June 25, 2003 at 9:01
Slaves and Masters was a good album for the wrong band will be a great album for Rainbow or Bad Company, but for Deep Purple was not a good idea, but i like the album, King of Dreams is my Deep Purple favorite song.

From: K.K. Date: October 8, 2003 at 5:47
Moim zdaniem album ten jest po prostu zajebisty i nie rozumiem tych wszystkich nadętych buców, którzy uważają że ten album to popłuczyny po Deep Purple. Slaves & Masters jest dla mnie 10 razy lepszy niż nagrany z Gillanem The Battle Rages On. Wystarczy posłuchać Cut Runs Deep czy Wicked Ways by się o tym przekonać !

From: Adam Blackheart Date: December 10, 2003 at 16:45
KK kocham Cię stary zboczeńcu, masz rację. KK, I agree, you're absolutely right. "Slaves And Masters" is better album than overrated "Battle Rages On"

From: Euegnio "Waite" Date: May 26, 2004 at 20:33
Yeah! This is the perfect follow up to Raimbow's Bent Out Of Shape. A most for fans of that band and of Joe Lynn Turner. Catchy power rock at it's best and played by the best!

Una obra de arte de rock melodico y con clase

From: Big Papa K Date: June 26, 2004 at 1:35
I like Joe Lynn Turner, but this second version of Rainbow/new Deep Purple is just a bore. One problem is that Turner does not have the voice for a high energy rock song like Gillan did. When Turner sticks to what he is best at, it works, such as "King Of Dreams". 6/10

From: emi Date: August 16, 2004 at 9:05
obra de arte total

From: Ratt72 Date: September 5, 2004 at 2:13
The album its too mellower, but its not Turner fault, in fact the band decided to gets more commercial aproaching, and took this great singer into it.Of course there's good moments like the opening song King of Dreams, but the album doesn't gets off.

From: Propane Date: November 30, 2004 at 10:25
I respect JLT, but not much range in his vocals. OK album, but not even close to all the rest.

From: Walrus1971 Date: August 28, 2005 at 15:14
Such a strange record, if considered among the DP discography… If it hadn't been published under the name "Deep Purple", it would have been considered has a pure gem.

From: JSpillman Date: November 11, 2005 at 11:43
Breakfast In Bed sounds to me exactly like a Bad Company with Paul Rodgers song. That's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned, it could even be taken as a compliment. I mean I really like Burn and respect Coverdale and Hughes, but I think of Gillen when I think of Purple and Perfect Strangers was excellent. But none of that takes anything away from this album, which in my opinion is a pretty good one.

From: Remastered Reason Date: February 11, 2006 at 20:18
Yeah this cd gets a bad rap. Blackmore still had some good riffs & ideas on this one & JLT does a good job on vocals. Not really any complaints though it may not be a classic.

From: Animal! Date: January 24, 2011 at 21:15
Mark 1 line up had good songs, Mark 2 is legendary, Mark 3 had a good run, Mark 4 is without Blackmore and may have a tune or two, Mark 5 is the J.L.T. lineup and this effort stands up to any Deep Purple work. I give this effort an 8 out of 10

From: Dusty Date: December 13, 2013 at 17:01
Very underrated album. It sounds a lot like Turner era Rainbow, but adds some classic DP element to the mix as well (Jon Lord!). King of Dreams, The Cut Runs Deep and Wicked Ways are the highlights for me.

From: hair metal again Date: April 4, 2014 at 11:50
ok release by DEEP PURPLE in their classic way &sound!JLT has no problem handling the vocals and the band knows what to do and as a result we get a DEEP PURPLE classic!i dont agree that this is much commercial and songs like "king of dreams","love conquers all" and "too much is not enough" will surely satisfy you!good stuff, but nothin blowmindin as most of their releases!

From: Ydol eM Date: December 26, 2014 at 15:40
I must confess from the very beginning of my comment that this my most favourite DP album. Ok, I'm not really a keen fan of this band but I totally agree with Dusty, perhaps I'd add Tony Martin or JLT's solo works. And I don't care they might be more "commercial" here, actually this is a very vague term. IMO, very good melodic hard rock with some excellent moments like "Truth Hurts"... 80/100.

From: Doug Date: February 12, 2015 at 15:04
"King of Dreams" is my fave on this one.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: February 16, 2017 at 6:59
Cool album with the fantastic Joe Lynn Turner in it...tracks 1,2,5,7 and 8 are the ones for me...80 out of 100 is my rate.

From: 123charpenay Date: February 17, 2017 at 15:44
