After PERFECT STRANGERS, the band decided to move into a more experimental direction. Though, many fans weren't ready for this new direction, I feel this album has stood the test of time, and in some ways gets better with each passing year. The album is solid from beginning to end, but one song really stands out. That song is "Mitzi Dupree". C'mon Purple, play this one live sometime!!! |

This album is fantastic, i agree with kabubala that it stands the test of time . However it was misunderstood and I don't know why . Many people say it is more commercial than " Perfect strangers ". Maybe it is but it doesn't lose any of its strength and melody . There are some compositions which really stand out : mad dog ( with the fantastic ending guitar solo ) , black and white highlighting the musical understanding between blackmore and gillan , spanish archer ( classic blackmore-penned com |

This one is quite a change from "Perfect Strangers". Not saying this is bad, but just a little too over-produced for Deep Purple. "Call Of The Wild" is a fantastic pop song. 6/10 |

The opening song Bad Attitude it's certainly a great tune, but the rest of album its another poor try to match the old material, except the great blues-rock Mitzie Dupree, one of best blue rock songs I ever heard. |

I think this one deserves to be paid attention to, but you have to listen to it forgetting the passionate aspect of Deep Purple classics fans. Think it was somehow a courageous attempt at that time, and this album is good. |

This one's just fine, It'll do. Nice musicianship once again. |

Kind of fell between the cracks, this one. After "Perfect Strangers" this one is one of my faves. "Mitzy Dupree" and "Call Of The Wild" really stand out but this one is one fluid listen from beginning to end. |

The Spanish Archer contains some strangely bizarre lead work by Ritchie Blackmore - too bad he's playing lead lute these days. |

I don't care about critics or even the band, I think this is a great album.1,2,3,6,8,9, and 10 are the best and the others are ok but over all I give this a 9 out of 10. |

Very pleasant release...a mix of Hard Rocking tracks plus some others having an american approach in sound...Ian Guillan's at his best undoubtebly ...not to mention the rest of the guys!!! ..."Call Of The Wild"(AORish) & "Black And White" are my faves but add 2 that "Bad Attitude","The Unwritten Law","Mad Dog"(catchy)& "Dead Or Alive"(rocks!)...recommended album...90/100 |

very good release for DEEP PURPLE back in 87 with House Of Blue Light keeping their trademark but still making their sound a bit lighter and easier especially in the keys!the result is ok and you can find some good songs like "call of the wild",'mad dog" and "bad attitude"!recommended |
