Excellent release from the man who gave us such tunes as 'Since You've Been Gone', 'New York Groove'. Great album With an extremely good backing band at the time (Mo Foster on Bass - wow). Good hard pop ditties abound on this album, and 'Voices' even appeared on in an episode of Miami Vice. This was reissued with 'The Fire Still Burns'(also fab) on a 2on1 on Renaissance label in 1996. Well worth the money

Russ Ballard is the god of 80īs pop(hard)rock. His sounds reminds me of my childhood, great !!!

From: Knuckles Date: February 20, 2003 at 22:25
Russ has some great tunes.Voices on here is a pretty cool tune

One of the finest AOR records ever made. A classic. 'A Woman Like You' is AOR heaven. I also love the drumplay by Phillips.

From: perfectstranger Date: June 16, 2003 at 8:44
'voices' is one of the best aor rock tunes ever written, amazing guitar solo and tones and massive drums from simon phillips. the rest of the album is good but a little lightwieght. good songs but the 80's production sounds dated now. his next album 'fire still burns' was a good one too!

From: StephenPearcy Date: November 21, 2003 at 12:25
A Masterpiece!! The music is not as complex as dream theater but it catches you similarly - and it's an extremly cool sound!!!

From: Gar Date: December 16, 2003 at 20:10
Yeah, it sounds really dated today. But for its time it was some pretty good stuff, particularly 'Voices'.

There are some exquisite songs here. Tell me any AOR fan won't get turned on listening to tracks like 'Playing With Fire' or 'Two Silhouettes'. Awesome stuff. Hardly a weak moment on this, and having the talented Simon Philips bashing the drums gives it a certain polish. In reality though, this album was primed for radio. Why it never landed there is beyond belief.

Excellent album!!! A Masterpiece!!!! Check it out in the Hall Of Fame at: Grande-Rock.com Russ come back we missed you!!!!

From: aorjocke Date: August 21, 2004 at 15:16
In my opinion this is Russ best record, great AOR...except the boring 'Voices' who does not fit in at all. The best songs is to me 'Two Silhouettes' what a great uptempo song. Then we have the fantastic 'A Woman Like You' with a mega refrain, just perfect AOR, what more could you ask for!!

From: Wotty Date: August 21, 2004 at 15:26
To aorjocke,I could not have put it better myself.....

From: oliver Date: April 27, 2005 at 2:47
one of my top 5 from the eighties. all tracks are killer melodic rock. not a single filler here to find. 9,5/10

From: AOR freaky Date: April 27, 2005 at 4:15
Must agree with the above comments ! Great, but underrated AOR from an underrated talent !

From: AO Archangel Date: April 28, 2005 at 12:45
Almost as good as Soul Sirkus, but it falls short... :-(

From: PAUL Date: September 14, 2005 at 11:28
When we're talkng about classic albums, outstanding songwriting and talented musicians, must mention without fail RUSS BALLARD.Just listen to 'i can't hear you no more' and you'll understand...the epitome of melodic rock.'two silhouettes' is made in AOR heaven,if you don't believe me ask RITCHIE BLACKMORE.He knows more than me and owes a lot to RUSS....

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 16, 2007 at 19:49
