Very mellow, but there is some great songwriting here. 'Hey God' sees BJ is fine form and is a great opener, 'Something for the Pain' does not stand up to repeated listens, 'This Ain't a Love Song' is another stellar BJ single, 'These Days' is great hard rock, 'Lie to Me' is a clear highlight and brilliant ballad, 'My Guitar Lies Bleeding in My Arms' and 'It's Hard Letting You Go' are slow and depressing, but both are excellent, 'Heart's Breaking Even' is okay but throw-away material, 'Something

'Something to Believe In' sees BJ at their best. Great lyrics, delivery and song. 'If That's What It Takes' is average again, but pretty good and better than 'Heart's breaking even'. Overall, I must say this is a very good disc.

Some folks will probably want to burn me at the stake like a Salem witch for the following statement, but this is the best BON JOVI CD since "New Jersey." There are some great songs on here, some of the best writing of the band's distinguished career. Yeah, perhaps its a bit mellower than some fans would prefer, but it's not "wimpy" mellow, if that makes any sense; it's still got a rockin' edge and some punchy energy. I could listen to this album at least once a week and twice on Sundays.

Hey God is the best opening track on any BJ album, with hooks that would make Lillian Axe jealous. Something for the Pain has some interesting arrangements and some of the best lyrics on any song they've written. This Ain't A Love Song and My Guitar are both memorable above average tracks and Hearts Breaking Even is a catchy Get a Grip-era Aerosmith rocker with a great chorus. Some filler, including the awful These Days and the unnecesary Diamond Ring, but an underrated album overall. 7.3/10

If you like the last version of Bon jovi with some Mr.Big elements I can recommend a band called California,I think the only cd released is”California”in 2001(indie).It’s a great and catchy melodick hard rock with modern influences.

From: mauricio Date: September 15, 2006 at 17:23

This is the next best to New Jersey. Every song is filled with great riffs & intense lyrics. Hey God fits in nicely as the open track along with Something For The Pain. The ballads, Lie To Me, Letting You Go, This Ain't A Love Song, Guitar Lies Bleeding, Something To Believe In are gonna last forever! Not forgetting the crank Damn, If That's What It Takes & Heart's Breaking Even! They did the closing with the spiritual Diamond Ring and the relaxing Bitter Wine. Fabulous album to have!

This one picks up where the last one left off in the bands musical evolution and finds the band with an even more modern rock sound almost this time round. Still loaded with all the BJ melodies, hooks, and massive choruses your used to. Just with a more modern edge if you will. Although this one didn't load the raido with hits like it's pedecessors, it is still loaded with great AOR. Not as many gems, but more consistant overall. Makes for nice flow and a good listen!

No faltan las movidas como "Something For The Pain", "Hey God" y "Damned", pero las baladas como "Lie To Me", "Diamond Ring", "It´s Hard Letting You Go", "This Ain´t..

A Love Song", "My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms" y "Hearts Breakin´Even" son simplemente Irresistibles...

This CD is pretty ordinary.

From: MrBig Date: September 9, 2008 at 1:01

From: rick kerch vzla Date: March 15, 2009 at 23:59
Kinda mellow stuff here, enjoyable though (for the open minded fans especially). As for me goes as a nice album (just that) but without the spark and flavour of "his" glorious days.Songs???...there a some good ones such as "Hey God"(the rockier of the album),"Something For The Pain"(happy happy),"These Days" and of course the "hit" of the "hit" of the album "This Ain't A Love Song".The decline(somehow)of BJ career was about to start...the decline in the good sense of the word...80/100

From: hair metal again Date: July 14, 2011 at 9:43
i believe that THESE DAYS is a total masterpiece!all the songs are hits and the melody really flows all over.Peter Collins in production achieves a very balanced sound and JBJ ,RC with the valuable help of Desmond write excellent songs.this is a 100/100 for me and one of BJ finest moments

From: guitarrizer Date: May 24, 2021 at 6:22
I like it more over the years. The last good Bon Jovi's album.
