Plenty of filler here, but also some outstanding melodic hard rock songs. 'You Give Love a Bad Name' is still a killer melodic hard rocker, 'Livin' on a Prayer' we all know and some of us still love, 'Raise Your Hands' is decent melodic rock and 'Without Love' is one of my fave BJ songs of all. I love this song, and combined with 'I'd Die For You', they're 2 of the album highlights. 'Never Say Goodbye' is a nice ballad, and don't really like the rest. Some great songs though.

From: The Overlord Date: March 18, 2005 at 19:12
I don't see any fillers here, its just that some of the songs really are sooo damn good that it makes 1 or 2 tracks seem a little less good, but all in all all are good, this and NJ are my fav BJ cd's, these songs are simply timeless, I really prefer the Wanted Dead Or Alive acoustic version thu, the one that Bon and Richie played at MTV with Livin on a prayer as the intro, I'd Die For you is also very good, smart use of keyboards, oh and btw if its possible try to get a hold of the japanese edi

SECOND BEST ALBUM EVER, BUT WITH THE ULTIMATE SONG ON IT: LIVIN ON A PRYAER

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: June 5, 2005 at 12:50
Another Great Bon Jovi release, un Great por tener 1 de las mejores canciones de Rock de la Historia y la mejor de ellos Livin' on a Prayer(quien en el Mundo no la conoce, Simplemente la mejor, quien no se emociona cuando la escucha, se me pone la piel de gallina cada vez que la escucho), Never Say Goodbye(la mejor balada de ellos, si hay que comparar con otras baladas Every Breath you take de Police por poner 1 ejemplo seria una, de lo mas grande), Without Love, I'd Die For You,

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: June 5, 2005 at 12:59
Let it Rock, You Give Love a Bad Name los mejores cortes, el resto entran en algo mas rockerillo, para la gran mayoria el New Jersey sera lo mejor pero lo mejor IMO fueron los 3 primeros.

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: June 5, 2005 at 20:27

Overrated, this turned Bon Jovi from rock to pop in a hurry. Not all that impressed

From: metalmaniac777 Date: July 23, 2005 at 23:06
A classic, killer piece of pop/hair-metal history, giving us some of the genre's most beloved songs ('Livin' on a Prayer,' 'You Give Love a Bad Name,' & 'Wanted Dead or Alive'). The 'New Jersey' vs. 'Slippery' debate will forever rage among BJ fans, but those 3 songs, a holy hard rock trinity, give the edge to 'Slippery.' With whale-sized hooks, huge chorus anthems, and the kind of gang backing vocals we rarely hear anymore, this legendary album is a melodic hard rock fan's wet dream come true.

From: Kip Date: September 13, 2005 at 13:20
I've always thought this was just a bit less great than New Jersey. You Give Love A Bad Name instantly hooked me when I first heard it and is my favorite track here. Livin' On A Prayer is almost as awesome and Wild In The Streets round out the gems. I've always loved the flow of the second half of the album with the very good tracks Without Love, I'd Die For You, and Never Say Goodbye. I never liked the opening track, Social Disease, Wanted Dead Or Alive or Raise Your Hands. 9.2/10

gran disco! este es otro de mis favoritos, los BONJOVI EN SU MEHOR MOMENTO! such a shame nowadays, they cant live up to this awesome piece of history in rock! BONJOVI IN THEIR FINEST HOUR!!!

The best BJ anybody could want is here. MTV heavily rotated many of these videos at the time in America & the group became a household name. Essential to any music collection.

GEM GEM GEM GEM GEM GEM SUPER CLASSIC!!! Just listen to Without Love!! of god! any of them! listen to the magical keyboards. I remember those good times when Jon could sing... Richie is and will always be the SOUL of Bon Jovi. BJ is crap without Richie

From: Metalmusicman Date: January 1, 2007 at 16:42
Another piece of Killer AOR, but I have to admit, this is the first time I listened to a Bon Jovi album and muttered the words 'I didn't really care for that one'. While this is still a very good album, I was shocked to find what I would call filler. It's OK though. What is good, more than makes up for it and makes it definitely worth having. 'Livin' On A Prayer', 'Wanted Dead Or Alive', and 'Never Say Goodbye' just crippled the airwaves back in the day. Very good stuff!

From: zld Date: January 12, 2007 at 7:14
For the ones who are looking for the japan release with the bonustrack 'pink flamingos' should be warned. This 'track' is just the (keyboard)intropart of 'let it rock'. It's just split in two separate tracks.

From: metalhead4life Date: February 21, 2007 at 13:54
Killer album and one of the genres best. IMO, no filler at all. Which one is better - this one, S/T, or New Jersey? Hmmmmm........too tough to decide. New Jersey is more sugar coated/over the top than all of them which isn't a bad thing, this one is also very good/catchy pop/hair metal/aor, as is their S/T. IMO, New Jersey just may edge out this one, followed by their S/T. This is one to have in any collection - actually all 3 are.

From: walesforever Date: April 2, 2007 at 16:02
i don't know why everyone says that this is a good album. It's not. Ok, Livin On A Prayer, You Gove Love A Bad Name and Wanted Dead or Alive are good songs, but this album has the worst song ever written - Social Disease. If u haven't got this album, i recommend getting Def Leppard Pyromania or Hysteria because they are much better albums and value for money. Also i've seen Bon Jovi twice in UK and both times i thought that they weren't good live.

From: SWING Date: June 7, 2007 at 16:27
One of the best albums of the 80's.

From: headbanger4life Date: July 18, 2007 at 5:37
The quintessential Bon Jovi album. 10 tracks of pure 80's rock. They set the standard for other bands to live up to with this release. I still play today.

From: shotgun messiah Date: July 22, 2007 at 7:26
The best album ever!!!It's the culmination of their career!Noone will ever reach this level of musical creativity.10+/10.To walesforever;only a british could say that def leppard's albums are better than 'slippery when wet',my friend (def leppard is a great band of course, but bon jovi is a bit better band).

From: shoemaker Date: October 4, 2007 at 11:37
A classic!!!

From: Rambo Rockerman Date: January 20, 2008 at 11:17
Social Disease is a filler, the CD is made because of great tracks like Livin' on a Prayer,Wanted Dead or Alive and You Give Love a Bad Name. The last great Bon Jovi record.

From: Scrounger Date: July 20, 2008 at 17:32
Very, very overrated. I held off from buying this for 12 years, I saw it for £1 and picked it up. Aside from "Living on A Prayer" and "Wanted...." this is full of filler, even those tracks are pretty much pop songs. Bon Jovi give rock a bad name....

From: Zoner Date: August 2, 2008 at 10:13
Scrounger is full of shit. There is almonst no filler on this cd like there are on Bon Jovi's other albums. This is an all time classic and the excellent "I'd die for you" is nothing like pop more than an awesome AOR anthem. In my opinion I think Wanted dead or alive doesn't suit here they should have making another AOR tune. Pop is something Bon Jovi didn't do from that time go and listen to your Britney Spears and Slayer and leave us AOR rockers alone with your BS pop talking.

From: DazBuFF Date: January 19, 2009 at 22:43
mostly good stuff too bad we all cant get the boobies cd cover!!!!! why was this banned??????

From: rick kerch vzla Date: March 15, 2009 at 21:50
Mega sellin' album of all times!!!...90% of the songs here went either number one on the record billboard or were close 2 it...BJ made it big and that was the beginning of his marvellous stardom."You Give Love A Bad Name","Livin' On A Prayer" &"Wanted Dead Or Alive" are gonna be (already are)anthems of the Rock History...100/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 16, 2009 at 13:35
This album was so huge at the time, and I heard it so many times, I just can't stomach much of it anymore. Not to take away anything from it, as it deserved all the success, with great songwriting and musicianship and production, but it's just not something I'll go out of my way to listen to anymore. Hasn't aged very well, to my ears. It (and the band as well) has now passed into the realm of soccer-mom music.

From: rockhardrock Date: May 26, 2009 at 18:05
their best album for sure. even though it was sold in millions it just didn't grow on me. here are some standout tracks but also fillers which is in some way very bad thing for such multiplatinum album.the production is great here but this just isn't enough. my favs: You Give Love a Bad Name, Livin' on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive (their best song for me) and Without Love

From: sweetmelodies89 Date: August 18, 2009 at 5:00
One of my most spinned albums ever. No fillers here just a rock disc filled with awesomeness. It's a must have for fans of Melodic Rock. I really wish Bon Jovi could write anything half this good these days, but with stuff like Lost Highway I doubt that'll ever happen again... Anyways a classic album this one, 95/100

From: edwithmj Date: February 25, 2011 at 19:45
The only think that puts me off a lot of the songs on here is just how much they're played - especially by middle-aged women who fancy Jon. The first song is filler, the second is commercial greatness as is the third. Social Disease I'd say is my favourite, I'd Die For You is wonderfully melodic, Never Say Goodbye has extremely embarrassing lyrics (try listening to them without cringing) and Wild In The Streets is pure filler rubbish.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 25, 2011 at 22:25
I guess my first commment was uncharacterically brief, so I'll add to it. I bought this one in early 1990, (I had the debut, which was given to me by mistake for Christmas a couple years before, and New Jersey, which was the one I had actually wanted for Christmas). And even by that point, Bon Jovi had reached a saturation point. I guess I bought it for the hits, and to be honest, I don't remember listening to it alll that much even back then, especially side two of the cassette. "Let It Rock" is fairly heavy (for Bon Jovi) but kinda blodding at the same time, maybe not a good way to start. "You Give Love A Bad Name" has held up fairly well, and jI always liked "Wanted Dead Or Alive." "Social Disease" and "Raise Your Hands" have some nasty guitar chops but not a whole lot else. "Lovin' On A Prayer," an early example of Jon's Springsteen fetish, and just comes off as cheesy and affected despite the impeccable melody. And that's about it. "Never bSay Goodbye" is just awful, the sort of s

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 25, 2011 at 22:27
Goddamn, guess I ran long. Anyway, the only other song worth noting is 'never Say Goodbye," which is the sort of song a recent high-scholl graduate dedicates to his slightly-younger girlfriend, even though he knows he's going to get as much college pussy as he can while she sits at home.

From: hair metal again Date: July 8, 2011 at 10:41

The best album ever made!

From: 123charpenay Date: September 17, 2014 at 13:57
all time classic record.the more popular bon jovi s album.logic ,there is only hits in this jewel.this record have hooked several millions people on this planet, not enough the hard rock fans but all people who love good music.i recommand the 1998 japan rissue with seven bonus tracks (2 cd s).five live and two studio outtake song s.these two songs are two atomic bombs at the same level than the original album.these songs are "borderline and "edge of broken heart".

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: September 17, 2014 at 20:43
"Edge of a Broken Heart" was featured in the movie "Disorderlies" (featuring the Fat Boys), and actually charted back in '87. Somewhere out there is a studio acoustic version of "Wanted Dead Or Alive" that is really fantastic--I'd like to get my hands on that.

From: Ydol eM Date: April 11, 2015 at 14:30
They stopped with this album closely under their composition peak (IMO), anyway here are also top samples of arena hard rock. "Livin' on a prayer" might be in my top ten of rock songs ever (the credit also to Desmond Child - amazing sense for a song's gradation). I won't compare this album to anything because I regard this as the original. 90/100.

From: Eric Date: April 20, 2022 at 14:30
Fun facts for fans: JBJ helped Cinderella with labels+tour, did not hurt and hence the first two Cinderella albums went triple platinum. JBJ also helped childhood pal Snake Sabo+Skid Row in a similar way, I read the s/t album sold >10M copies worldwide. The benefit of supporting BJ on the huge and successful Slippery and or Jersey tours can not be overestimated. Even though Crüe+Metallica had a hard time seeing BJ succeed to the very top in the 80s, both finally used BJ's soundman/mixer behind the stunning sound of Slippery+Jersey (Bob Rock) for their own top-selling albums (Feelgood and s/t). However, Ronnie Dio and Alice Cooper many times stated that the whole melodic rock genre/scene should be grateful to BJ for making it so popular on the charts worldwide. Alice loves classic Jovi to this day and took help from the team for his best-selling album Trash. Also Aerosmith, when starting its never-seen-before very very successful second coming, wanted producer Bruce Fairbairn (in 87).

Eric: Jon was involved with Firehouse as well. As I recall, Bill Leverty managed to get a demo to him at a show, and he got in touch later saying he was interested in working with them. One of his suggestions was that they just needed better songs, but he also took CJ Snare under his wing. Had him out on the road, I assume as a roadie, but also for what CJ referred to as "frontman school." I remember hearing about this on American Top 40 when Firehouse were first happening back in '91, and Bill has made some references to it since.
