If anyone out there likes Buckcherry, The Scream, or Beautiful Creatures, this is a cd for you. Wild Rock N Roll with alot of attitude.

From: Blue Tequila Date: September 21, 2002 at 22:39
Buckcherry is a good comparison. Broken Teeth and Junkyard would be a couple other bands along that same line. Has that AC/DC type sound. Not too bad, nothing real outstanding. 'What's It to You' is my favorite track off the album

From: T-BONE Date: September 22, 2002 at 6:22
Excellant cd to throw in at a party. Full blown no bullshit rock. Gotta love it. Alot like Buckcherry

From: The Fizzy One Date: September 28, 2002 at 14:52
Whooooooo-ee! Bought this when it came out, when 'Under It All' was the single, and did I ever play the living shit out of THIS one! Great album, no bulshit, even if it is a little (okay, VERY) derivative. Only bad song is the repetitive 'Skin Up.' I give 'er an 8.5.

Straight ahead rock 'n' roll. No mysterious time changes, political lyrics or hidden messages here. Great for crankin' it up in the car, my only complaint is I wish the guitar player was a little better...8 out o' 10 for me.

From: Larry Date: January 8, 2003 at 7:11
Great Rock N Roll album, much superior to the likes of Buckcherry and Beautiful Creatures. Rock radio should have given this band more airtime instead.

From: anamal Date: February 19, 2003 at 1:54
dirty rock n roll the way it is supposed to be played..NO HOLDS BARRED..love the riffing and the attitude the band had..kinda in places reminds me of seahags..i love this type of r n r..1 question ..where the hell are they now??

From: Larry Date: December 8, 2003 at 21:11
Exactly anamal, where are they. A band like New American Shame would be better suited for representing the so-called current 'real rock uprising' than the Darkness.

From: armando Date: February 27, 2004 at 11:48
AC/DC + W.A.S.P. + D.A.D. = NEW AMERICAN SHAME I'm completely cool with that...

From: T-Bone Date: March 31, 2004 at 7:09
I just dusted this off the other day after going through both Buckcherry cd's. This band definately needs to do another CD. If you're a fan of Aerosmith, AC/DC, Buckcherry, and Hanoi Rocks 'In Your Face' rock'n'roll style, you'll love this!!! If not...just get it for the cover art

From: Blue Tequila Date: March 31, 2004 at 9:34
Auburn = very cool song, my new favorite track off the album. And yeah...great album cover!

From: thelostdj Date: March 31, 2004 at 16:15
Today's the deadline! MTV Europe's threat to yank all 'indie' music and videos across Europe...accept our 55804c350aycut and 'barnyard orgy' deal or else....guess they're gonna do their best to fuck-up music worldwide like they did in the States and Canada...

Quick NAS update. Disbanded, pick up the Crow Salvation sdtrk. for Broken Wings. Jim went on to form Tacoma, Wa. based Point Defience, also no more. These guys are all local Seattle whores, many bands, try the Lemons, Bathtub Gin, Tramp Alley, Talks Cheap, to name a few. Too bad most of the bands never made it farther than me. E-mail me at martinsane@msn.com to talk trades, Tramp Alley featured Jim an John and a super sleeeeezy version of Doghouse. By the way Auburn is where we all grew up and go

From: martinsane Date: April 5, 2004 at 3:19
thats got drunk, anyway if you liked this cover this cd was released independantly prior to Atantic on Will records with a cover that is better in my opinion.

From: CurtisLoew Date: April 12, 2004 at 20:46
Picked this up for $2.00 off eBay, with free shipping, and I feel like I got ripped off. This sucks.

From: Mike Date: August 31, 2004 at 4:38
Does anyone know where I can get their unreleased song "Stand On The Pedal" on CD? I have an mp3 of it and I'm pretty sure it was the B-side on the Australian version of the single for "American Shame." Please email me with any info: mkwalsh84@yahoo.com

If you can get this one cheap, pick it up. In Reality the only really great tunes on this one are Under It All and Auburn. The rest is pretty much mediocre and relagated to backbround music at a bonfire. The two aforementioned tunes are stellar though. Don't expect alot from this release, put it in and play it. Decide for yourself.

From: Geoff Date: September 13, 2004 at 2:54
'Rather be rich' is great. The whole thing is just a good collection of hard rock. If you like Buckcherry and Backyard Babies I can't see you not liking this one. Cool hard rock.

From: Metalhead66 Date: January 11, 2005 at 16:18
THIS FUCKIN ROCKS!!!! Yeah it sounds like AC/DC etc..But They do it such Passion and Fire that it sounds fresh...What ever happend to them????9/10!!!!

From: CHRIS Date: February 10, 2005 at 5:15
Your ears will get tired after 3 songs.Lame

I loved this CD on the first listen, and played it for weeks on end that summer. I'm not sure how to describe it though, as they don't sound like any one band in particular. AC/DC is often mentioned, but the Shame are more melodic, while being just as rough. How Buckcherry flourished adn these guys didn't is a mystery to me. My favorites are "Under It All," "Broken Bones," the title track, "Down In The Valley" and of course "Doghouse."

excellent debut for NEW AMERICAN SHAME with their sound being close to bands like JUNKYARD,BUCKCHERRY with that dirty street basic hard rock approach and those rough vocals!"under it all","broken bones" and "doghouse" are the def highlights of this fine indie release

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: April 23, 2019 at 22:29
It's not an indie, dude, at least not in this form (released on Atlantic, just before that label got swallowed up in mergers). But eight of the twelve songs did make up the band's original indie release on something called Will Records. Four more were recorded for this major-label debut. You don't even have to listen too closely to hear the difference in production between those four and the original eight. Spoiler alert: the new songs were "Down In The Valley," "Rather Be Rich," "Somethin' Right" and "Lesson In Cool."

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: April 26, 2019 at 18:26
That's cool, man, where'd you get it?

From: hair metal again Date: April 28, 2019 at 16:15

It is really a tragedy that this band only released the one album. Coming out in 1999 was rough as American radio and mtv was still on it's alternative rock band wagon, and saw anything that sounded like tradition hard rock and metal as poison, and was ignored. This album sounds like ACDC mixed with some influences of the 80s LA metal scene. Lots of killer guitar riffs and catchy songs a real diamond of a album.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 8, 2024 at 11:53
The funny thing is, New American Shame DID get airplay for "Under It All" in the summer of '99, and opened for both the Cult and Megadeth. They were Atlantic's version of Buckcherry. There was aa real buzz in the air, however delusional, about this kind of music coming back into fashion, with John ualodner and his Portrait Records putting out new music from Great White and Ratt, plus Def Leppard promising a return to the sound that made them superstars with Euphoria. But somehow it just didn't happen for the Shame, partly because of trouble at Atlantic, and I also heard some of the band members were kind of a mess. Too bad. They were better than Buckcherry in my book.
