The rating on this album is a travesty.Paul Laine is a great singer and, whilst the cd lacks the "party rock" feel of the previous two releases, the songs are great and this cd is a real slow burner. The kind of record you listen to on release and think you don't like but return to later and really get into. Great album, great songs, good playing and killer singer.

From: T-BONE Date: August 11, 2001 at 10:39
I agree with the guy above. I hated this cd when it came out, but after a few years of sitting on my shelf, I put it in and listened to it and tried to forget it was D2. I liked the cd. Worth checking out!!!

From: Mike A Date: February 15, 2002 at 15:39
I really like this cd. "Punching Bag" is one of my favorite Danger Danger songs. Paul Laine sings his ass off on this disc. I know a lot of people hate this because it's not a party album but it's better than what a lot of bands were putting out in the mid nineties. Definitly worth checking out.

From: Steve T Date: February 26, 2002 at 14:41
I agree with everything said about this album here. It IS a slow burner and the songs are great. With Paul they had a REAL singer and took a huge stride in maturity with this album. I'd give it a 8 out of 10 easily.

From: Motley Date: May 21, 2002 at 16:12
got nothing to do with Danger Danger. ted Poley was the lead singer of D2. and then there's nothing more to say!! the first 2 D2 is the very best you can ever imagine from this band. I like 4 the hard way but miss Poley's voice. Imagine Celine Dion singing for Def Leppard....YUK!!!!!

their worst album but still a good one.darker and harder than the rest albums, they were influence by grunge.

BASURA!!!!!

From: jarett r. Date: September 4, 2002 at 18:35
warrant's ultraphobic and danger danger's dawn remind me a lot of each other. similar style music and similar style lyrics. the front and back albums covers even remind me a lot of each other. the two bands even had similar non-glam images at the time. and remember both albums came out in 1995.

From: ted Date: November 15, 2002 at 10:10

From: Tony Date: March 10, 2003 at 3:56
The thing to me with this album is taken as it's own entity it's not bad at all. But how can your musical mind not seperate it from the previous 2 pop-metal classics?? "Nobody Cares" is a 10/10 here but just like a ton of bands of this ilk when they tried to go "alternative/grunge" there was just such a boring sameness to the songwriting and it's delivered mechanically with no emotion or passion. Paul does a great job here and it's FAR more melodic than critiques have led you to believe!!

From: Bretijani Date: August 14, 2003 at 19:50

From: Big Mike Date: September 21, 2003 at 23:41
A bit of a sell out unfortuately. Not total sh1t but more of a dark sounding album. Its a pity because Paul Laine can sing and this one may have turned some fans away from D2 for Good. The songs aren't as good either as most of the stuff D2 has put out before or since. Essential for total fans only.

From: Dean Date: December 5, 2003 at 16:13
I guess I'm different than most people on this site in that I HATED the first two releases mostly because the keyboards made it sound way too poppy for my tastes. Once Paul Lane joined the band I really started liking these guys.

From: John Date: December 6, 2003 at 11:00
Nothing wrong with you here Dean. I think once Poley left, the cheese left with him. D2 were better off with Paul IMO. Are the songs as catchy in the terms of what's usually popular with the people that frequent this page? Probably not. But I think the songs suck a lot less. Anybody that can say with a straight face that 'Slipped Her The Big One' or 'Horny S.O.B.' are good songs needs a sedative. It IS a bit grungier, but at least these guys play grunge better than 99% of grunge bands.

Hmm...I happen to dig a fair amount of "alterna-grunge" as well as "Nu-metal" as well as melodic hard rock, AOR, 80's metal, etc. and although this is by far a darker record than their debut or Screw It it still aint alternative IMHO. It's too catchy, with too many guitar solos, and harmony choruses. I would never confuse this with a Nickelback album in other words...Paul Laine's a great vocalist (I like Ted too). Part of DD's charm was the cheese, but sometimes I order things without cheese...

From: Rycheage Date: January 28, 2004 at 17:20
This is a much darker release than the "cheese" before it. I happen to like the cheese but this is better, musically. I do prefer Ted Poley, but Paul Laine is very good also. This is overall an excellent release which should've garnered much more attention.

From: run2u Date: May 19, 2004 at 20:17

From: davesworld Date: July 25, 2004 at 19:58
As much as I like Paul Laine I just couldn't get into this CD and just feel it was poorly done. Everything before and after I feel is much better. But that is just my opinion.

From: TIM (2) Date: November 1, 2004 at 3:02
Whereas I didn't care much for the change in direction, I have a pretty open mind and there are some good tunes on this one. It's a struggle to listen to from start to finish, but Laine's raw vocals really suit this one. The first 3 tracks are especially good, killer hard rock, as is the brilliant "Wide Awake & Dead". But the album is mid-tempo almost all the way through and needs more variety. The following albums proved this was probably a step too far, but it's still a good listen. 7/10.

From: David Gil Date: November 8, 2004 at 19:59
I like this cd........bought it on a fluke and have enjoyed it immensely!

From: Geoff Date: March 2, 2005 at 6:16
This is easily one of the best sell-out albums of the mid-90's. Of course you hate to see it happen, but for what this is 'Helicopter' is a great heavy rocker, 'Crawl' is even better, and a great modern rock track, 'Drivin' Sideways' is killer hard rock - awesome, 'Wide awake and dead' is great too, and 'Nobody cares' is a great ballad. Overall there are some awful tracks, but this is clearly the worst D2 disc, and it's really not that bad at all, so it shows the class of the band in question.

From: z4roxx Date: March 3, 2005 at 9:44
I must appreciate this cd only because they are Danger Danger, one of the finest melodick hard rock band in the world. But this cd is full of fillers, first tracks are decent but in a way I don't like. But mate, this one is full of horrible fillers,IMO.

From: Aussie Dave Date: March 23, 2005 at 16:50
A very disappointing release from these guys! Yes Paul Laine is a great singer, but the feel of this album is totally wrong! They should have brought this album out under another name! Only two original members left and a different singer! Nobody Cares is the only song that resembles their past! Helicopter, Crawl and Drivin Sideways are pretty cool songs, but too different to what they have done before. Thank god their next album was an absolute gem! 6.5/10....

From: big rooter Date: April 12, 2005 at 20:24
Its always dangerous when a band makes significant changes to their sound. Hence the sell out tag. I think with a livelier mix it might have been ok but has certainly been produced with the toned down feel of a grunge record. D2 were big as a pop rock act so why change it. I can't think of one band that has made it changing their sound. Maybe Metallica.

Don't forget Def Leppard, that was a BIG change, and they made it BIG as a result... personally I like this album, I like everything they've put out except the first one, which I thought was too cheezy even for me...

From: headbanger4life Date: January 19, 2006 at 4:25
I actually liked this release. It was the second DD album that I owned (first being Screw It). It was a different sound but I really enjoyed it. I have to say that I like Paul Laine's solo stuff better than his work with DD. This is a solid release and like a lot of the above comments say, it grows on you the more you listen to it.

From: 80s hero Date: May 17, 2006 at 13:48

From: West Of Sunset Date: August 12, 2006 at 8:33

From: Metalmusicman Date: December 11, 2006 at 13:11
I really like this band, but I did not care for this and I hate to say that and that has nothing to do with Paul Laine joining the band. I think Paul is brilliant, I just don't care for the songs on this one. It's not the heavier edge either, I welcome that as well. I just don't like the songs, outside of "Sorry" which I thought was killer, but that's just my opinion.

From: juan carlos Date: May 9, 2007 at 18:07

From: dave Date: June 17, 2007 at 23:36

The Worse disc of both races (laine and danger danger)Paul is one of my favourite SINGERS but this disc was badly beginning for laine with DD but After this is another history Paul Laine Rocks

From: 123charpenay Date: May 3, 2009 at 16:05
the real singer is ted poley.paul laine is a very good singer his solo album "stick it in your ears" is a must.but danger danger without ted poley is not danger danger.this album is a shame they play with grungy influences.hey guys you have no balls play what you do the best HARD FM

From: CMGio Date: November 8, 2010 at 8:39
The rating on this album is deceptive. While it's not anywhere near the quality of their debut or the follow-up, "Screw It!" it certainly isn't bad by any means. Granted, I grew up in the grunge / alternative boom of the mid-90's and accordingly, I have a bit more of a tolerance than others with similar musical interests, it's nowhere near as crappy as the Tonic, Fastball, Barenaked Ladies, Tantric, etc. over-processed TRASH that scored big on the charts during the same time. And while I'm still a MUCH bigger fan of D2 with Ted Poley as their frontman, their Paul Laine era of releases, "Dawn" included, is still very enjoyable.

From: 123charpenay Date: March 18, 2013 at 13:29
i am a big fan of danger danger.i ve see them in concert in lyon in 1997 in guest of u f o.brilliant concert a really great memory.but this record "dawn" is the same shit than the horrible "slang" of def leppard.exactly the same comments for the awful "rainmaker" of von groove.same mark0/100.
