I actually work with Ray Calcutt at the moment, it is at mel-tone music shop in Melton Mowbray Leicester and he is a kick ass lead guitarist who is still playing well.

I knew Ray Calcutt back in the 80's. The original ya ya's lead vocalist was a guy called Lee Hart who has since vanished from the music scene. There first single was called don't talk

Lea Hart is still in the music business. In recent years he put together tribute albums for Whitesnake, UFO, Thin Lizzy and several others. Also he is the manager of former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di'Anno.

I love this, but only have a tape copy and would love the CD. Have never seen one auctioned on eBay but will keep my fingers-crossed one appears soon... Didn't Sam Blue sing for GLR (think this was their name?) too? Don't think that was much good though...

Saw this band live supporting Queen's Roger Taylor. Good musicianship, great songs. They did huge tour of Russia at end of 80's, met one of the road crew who gave me a bootleg tape. Sound quality not great but playing is even better than on CD. Sounds like they added a sax player along the way.

I know this has been going for very high eBay prices lately, but you can get it through Amazon.com (as I did) for about $15, which is a bargain for this class album. If you love FM's 'Indiscreet' you'll love this...

Like FM without the catalog. Caught in a Lie and Julia however are classic songs which should have been huge. Rare, but well worth tracking down. Reccomended

Quality AOR release, typical of the late 80's soundwise (Outside Edge, FM, Virginia Wolf etc). Good songs, good production (Wotty), and a great vocalist in Sam Blue. 'Julia' is a great song, with it's dutdut keys we all love. Getting hard to find, so if you see, it blag it straight away.

Yeahhh boys, this a classic AOR album, in the vein of FM, Strangeways or Stan Meissner, esto para hacerse una idea en que linea va la banda, en algunos temas se parecen a los mencionados, tremendos temazos Caught in a Lie, Julia (my favorites), All Through the Night(que teclados MAGICOS), You're All I Need, Love in Vain otro tremendo album IMPRESCINDIBLE en tu coleccion. Saludos desde Santiago-Ica-Peru.

Haven't heard this one I have to say. I have the 1st Ya Ya LP on vinyl with Lea Hart as vocalist but it's in my 'upstairs in a pile' part of my albums which means although I don't term it as part of my collection it's maybe too good to get rid of. Like a halfway house for albums n stuff. I'll play it again and decide .. maybe judging on some of the comments here I should give it another try...Hey it might even get promoted back into the main collection!

In danger that no-one will take me for serious no more I must admit that this is quite boring stuff Of course 'Caught in a lie' is up with the best songs of LIONHEART or OUTSIDE EDGE. The rest more or less just has no kick to it. No great riffs or hooks at all, terrible voice. --I'm no great buiznezz man 'cos I still have mine for sale ....Still decent.... 8/10

Truly excellent Brit AOR that is just begging for a re-issue (with possible bonus tracks). This is a must for any AOR fan into Shy, Tobruk, Strangeways, Shogun etc. They did another release earlier in the 80's called 'Scarred' which is not as good as this (IMO - and never officially released on CD - yet) which also had tracks featured in the 'Revenge Of The Nerds' OST (which was released on CD but quite a rarity now).

I actually own a cd copy of the Scarred album. Found it on ebay 5 years ago but have never seen it anywhere since. If anyone wants I can burn off a cd-r copy of it for like 6 US dollars. That would include the artwork and even the Japanese lp promo artwork which is way different(and better) than the common version. Let me know at markblum@mail.com.

If anyone can give a valid reason as to why the hell you'd name a band "Ya Ya," I'd love to hear it, because that's one of the few marks against this otherwise excellent group. I mean, WTF? Regardless, this album is about as clean and smooth as they come, full-bore '80s AOR very well done. To me it's the British counterpart to anything Toto ever put out, better on the whole than the (overrated) "Toto IV," though bearing a lot of resemblance to that album: plenty of synth pad keys, piano, mildly distorted guitar, harmonies, '80s drum sound. Nothing really aggressive, just safe, radio-friendly adult pop/rock. Nice lead vocals, but nothing outstanding -- competent musicians all-around. If you dig Toto at their commercial height, this album is right up your alley, especially if you can overlook that damn name. 85 / 100

I agree with everybody. Beautiful AOR.. I get kind of sad these guys weren't big, they deserved it!!! 100/100 score... My personal favorites are Caught in a Lie, When The World Cried, Julia and The toughest race (magnificent ballad!). As somebody said, Sam Blue sings very similar as Lea Hart, I actually thought it was Lea!... This CD holds a very special place in my collection.. I would love to see ROCK CANDY records remastering this!!! Come on!

One of the finest AOR/Melodic hardrock-gems you'll find, if you're very lucky. The original lp is very rare indeed. The re-release is well deserved. Together with Dare's stunning debut, this would be my favorite release from 1988.
