I'm only 23 and This is one of my favorite CD's of all time. It has blinding virtuosity, and emotion put into the songs, especially Icarus' Dream Suite Op. 4 which has a melancholy guitar solo intro. This ain't no Blink 182

From: Wingedslayer Date: October 29, 2002 at 6:15
Die !!!

Far Beyond The Sun is unbeliveable!'!

From: Lance Date: April 23, 2003 at 1:33
I saw this guy open for more people in the mid 80's and he always put on one hell of a show. Strangest pairing was with AC/DC. The contrast between styles was incredible but you know it worked !!! Master shredder who can slow it down and be melodic as hell. Loved his solo in 'Stars' on the Hear N Aid song. They don't make em like these anymore.

From: Jose(Spain)Sev Date: June 29, 2003 at 8:03
Great Album if you like Instrumental songs(heavy-metal), I'd like that Jeff Scott Soto sangs on more songs. 8/10.

Yngwie Malmsteen, Jens Johansson, Jeff Scott Soto. What a gang! Evil Eye is my favourite from this album.

From: Metal_Warrior Date: November 22, 2003 at 10:35
This is the best album ever created.

From: Abel Fierro III Date: November 27, 2003 at 8:09
When I fisrt heard this album I began learning theory so I too could be as emotional and dramatic. I worked on ny technique forever and realized after I became a clone that there is only ONE Yngwie Malmsteen. My first guitar hero bar none.

From: 80s freak Date: December 6, 2003 at 1:02
The cover is cool! Yngwie is the guitar god!

From: Dex Date: December 25, 2003 at 4:31
did we really need another Ritchie Blackmore .he even has his atititude but will never be as good a writer as blackmore gifted yes but a clone all the same

From: sparkyass Date: January 25, 2004 at 2:27
the one that started it all!!!!!still the best in this genre, far beyond the sun is a masterpiece!!!!!!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 14, 2004 at 2:01
The 'guitar wanker's' best solo album. Most likely due to the fact that most tracks are instrumentals. The first two tracks are worth the price alone, but are also on Malmsteen's best of album. 7/10

From: Date: October 1, 2004 at 13:31
Clone of Blackmore?i dont think so. Its true Blackmore strted with a great guitar playing technique in Rainbow and that yngwie's principal influence was Blackmore, but Ynwir Malsteeen was the fisrt guitasrrist to show a so increible amazing technique in guitar, his swet picking was something never seen before

From: Metalhead66 Date: October 1, 2004 at 13:39

From: Propane Date: December 2, 2004 at 21:26
Awesome debut from Yngwie. Say what you will about his personality, this guy's way ahead of his time here. Jens and Jeff round out this masterpiece perfectly. Nice introduction into the world of metal.

From: Giouri_G Date: December 13, 2004 at 4:49
A great album! Tremendous guitar work, good production and inspired themes..

From: Geoff Date: January 4, 2005 at 6:22
There are so many artists that evolved this way. 220 Volt, Pretty Maids, MSG, Magnum and many alike. All have the same thing in common - except for Pretty Maids, I was never a fan of the early fast paced metallic albums and all evolved to a melodic force of some sort. There is great guitar here, but as with all albums this style I miss the hooks and choruses and memorable songs. Sorry, just not my type of album at all.

From: YNGWIEVIKING Date: October 29, 2007 at 12:45
HUGE CD 97/100 i still remember when i first hear it !it was like the first VAN HALEN or 'if you want blood 'by AC/DC a HUGE slap in my juvenile face and a crossroad in my life not just a record ! The guitar playing was so perfect !I was already a Guitar freak (EVH/BLACKMORE/SCHENKER/RHOADS) but this one blow me away for ever ! MAJESTIC NEOCLASSIC with some MAGIC/EMOTIONAL moments and SHRED all over your HEAD ! a TRUE CLASSIC

From: metalhead4life Date: December 16, 2008 at 10:41
All instrumental tracks except for two: tracks 3 and 6 have vocals by great vocalist Jeff Scott Soto. Yngwie's instrumentals are awesome though and if you're a fan of guitar you should hear them. 98/100

From: Master_Of_Puppets Date: December 27, 2010 at 23:34
"Icarus' Dream Suite Op. 4" Should make you buy this album alone!

From: hair metal again Date: June 29, 2012 at 10:19
fine instrumental MALMSTEEN debut and this one captures the whole spirit of his guitar playing with his neoclassical approach along with some emotion!not the best of songs ,but this mid 80 s sound always work for me and i d say that this is an ok option if you re into that stuff!

From: edwithmj Date: February 21, 2015 at 17:54
Malmsteen's debut solo venture is an album I will always come back to. I enjoy the intrumentals Black Star, Far Beyond The Sun and Little Savage with their groundbreaking shredding while I also like Soto's vocals on Now Your Ships Are Burned (super song with a great riff) and As Above, So Below.
