To me thats the greatest MALMSTEEN album . Joe Lynn Turner is the best!

If you own any Malmsteen you know this one is a classic. No critical acclaim for this one from the mainstream metal media. Though it's his most commercial sound release, the songs far from 'fluff'. Joe Lynn Turner makes this one even that much better. There are so many tracks in here that could have been big hits, if the label had pushed them. Heaven Tonight is a great tune. If you're not a Malmsteen fan, you'll even find something here for you. 9.5 for sure.

His most commercial effort. In '87-'89 there was a flood of great commercial melodic rock and this was part of it. One of the highlights of his time.

P.S. Not shown on this web site is his first release and his third. Y.Malmsteen's Rising Force '84 which is a piece of work. Better than his second if that's possible. And Trilogy '86 which has the vocals of Mark Boals. It has too many great songs on that to just pick one or two.

Los fanaticos del Hard escandinavo quizas prefieran discos como Trilogy o Eclipse, pero este de sonido mas americano es el mejor de largo,ni un solo tema de relleno, temas ca'eros y un Yngwie que lo borda.DISCAZO.

Even rockers who hated Yngwie couldn't resist the explosive chorus of 'Heaven Tonight'. Tons of excellent moments on this, Yngwie's most commercial release. Definitely the place to start if you're looking to add that first Yngwie CD into your collection.

Joe isn't suit for yngwie music. just listen to the rising force song. Joe's voice didn't strong enough to sang that song. compare it with rising force with mike vescera on vocal (available in i can't wait) or with mats leven's rising force (available in doble live album)

yes, this is basically a commercial effort but it doesn't necessarily mean bad. You can find typical 80s melody patterns here. Yngwie had recorded this in the aftermath of his hospital days following a car accident. For me this is one of the best Malmsteen albums. But hey, Heavy Harmonies, where is the Trillogy album? cuz it's even better than this.

que grande yngwie, q grande joe, q grande jens... q temazos:HOLD ON, DREAMING.. 'por que ya no se hacen obras d arte como esta? Esta para mi es el mejor d Yngwie(quizas tambien el eclipse con el gran goran) Pero lo que ha echo este guitarrista para la historia del rock , solo puede ser comparado con su otro gran idolo(y mio!)EDDIE VAN HALEN Son genios super-monstruosos, e imposibles d igualar..

This didn't get much critical acclaim, purely because this record differed from Malmsteen's previous, more guitar-oriented albums. It definitely follows a more AOR direction than, say Rising Force, but this just showed a different side to Yngwie. Joe Lynn Turner has always been one of AOR's finest vocalists, and his combination of emotion and melodic power shines through fully on this record.Yngwie's playing is more restrained than previously but still excellent. Heaven Tonight is an AOR classic.

i've got all the malmsteen's albums and i've got to say that this one is the best by far because it creates an atmosphere very special that yjm can't have repeated since then.this album is strong, sentimental, original, nostalgic, etc, but now, where is the genius? from spain.this web is cool because trough it i've discovered awesome bands & it talks about the real hard rock/heavy music and stuff.Don't know what's going on nowadays but all the great bands of the 80's and 90's that still play suck not

Joe Lynn Turner is good vocalist and you can hear it good from this album. Shame that Yngwie gets too excited sometimes with his guitar. Anyway, very good tracks from Swedens Ritchie Blackmore.

Far and away Yngwie's best. After three albums of the same thing, he hired Joe Lynn Turner and they made an album of actual songs. Too bad he didn't do more albums like this one.

Jeez, and average of over 9.38 - once again I am taken by surprise. This is one of the lesser Yngwie releases in my mind and I actually don't really, really dig any of the songs on it. A few okay ones, but for me this is just decent hard rock / metal with no clear-cut winners. 5.5/10

what an amazing album, is the true unique melodic metal. Joe lynn sings very aor compared to Jeff Scot soto, but his voice is ttruly amazing. Yngwie sounded very sentimental with the amazing ballads:hold on and dreaming. This is my favorite yngwie albums with rising force and trilogy.

This is not a classic. In fact it's quite forgettable when it comes to classics once you get past 'Heaven Tonight', 'Hold On' and 'Dreaming (Tell Me)'. BUT that said, this is indeed a great Yngwie release. Flows quite nicely and does have some enjoyable moments. Classic, no. Is it good? Yes.

This record is kinda weak compared to the previous 3. Songs like hold on,heaven and dreaming are pretty lame. It's songs like rising force, riot in the dungeons and faster than the speed of light that is the real gem here. This is meant to be a heavy metal record here,80's metal guitar album and some of u guys are saying all those AOR bullshit crap. Still this is a decent 80's metal album.

Definately YM best album, although I really liked 'Trilogy' 'Fire & Ice' & 'Eclipse'. No one said this was an AOR record, just that some of the material is a lot more'commercial'( mainly due to JLT's vocals) and more song orientated than on previous releases,'Heaven Tonight' & 'Crystal Ball' being two examples. I certainly wouldn't class this as a 'Heavy Metal' either.

Probably Malmsteen's most commercial release. Of course there is the shredding guitar that typifies all Malmsteen's albums. However, under these conditions, it works a lot better & makes for a more bearable listening experience.

This is one peice of unbeliavably great rock. Do not try to play this guitarwork at home. Yngwie is absolutely amazing on this album. There is some killer guitar following synth solo's on this album. A guy this talented should be banned. This one of the early discs I had in my introduction to superb guitar playters and it has stood the test of time for me. This is a must have disc. If you play guitar this album is for you ! 92/100

My favorite from Yngwie and co. What do you get when you mix Yngwie with vocalist Jeff Scott Soto who absolutely sounds fantastic here, and the Johansson brothers who also sound fantastic - a kick ass album! This one is a lot more Glam than his previous 3 but stays true to his Melodic Metal. I just love the sound and vibe of the songs on this one. Very big arena sounding. Yngwie sounds awesome as usual and has some very memorable riffs here. This CD is amazing and is a Melodic Metal masterpiece. The whole thing is great-just buy it. Like all songs very much on here. Has a bit of everything for rockers/metallers; you also want an incredible soft melodic ballad with an amazing guitar solo, check out "Dreaming (Tell Me)" and if you want a melodic power metal song check out "Rising Force" and "Faster Than The Speed Of Light", and also a more traditional Glam Rock song check out "Heaven Tonight" and "Now Is The Time". 98/100 and a must for Glam/Melodic Metal fans.

This was the first Yngwie album I ever bought. Just picked it up because it was cheap on cassette (yeah that long ago) and looked to be hard rock/metal. Had never heard Yngwie before. My god this album is fucking great, and it certainly put me on the road to buying his back catalogue and most of his releases after. Nothing but nothing in his catalogue beats this album though.

An album where more singles/videos would have helped. 4 songs on which Ozzy's essential songwriter Bob Daisley plays bass on, and cool lines. Joe Lynn Turner sings like never before or after; he personally holds this album as his very best ever vocal performance. And it's very good, beautiful vocals. Hold on, Dreaming (tell me), Now is the time would have been amazing singles too, but the lousy record company only paid for ONE single/video. And in 1988, many artists had lots of singles & videos to promote their albums. The mix by audio legend team Thompson & Barbiero is as always great, well-balanced. I like all songs (all killer, no filler), this album deserved way more praise/sales. Anyway it's totally awesome! Also, when "experts" say that Yngwie only shreds, they are plain wrong. Yngwie has many cool riffs, great melodies, acoustic solos, every type of technique available he can do, and add to that his crazy showmanship and entertainment factor. Of course he's a LEGEND if any!!

"As Above, So Below - The Unauthorized Yngwie Biography" by Anders Tengner, great read! Yes Yngwie was crazy (drunk and high on coke) a lot of times back in the day (80s), which makes for plenty entertaining stories for sure. But let's not forget that the man has also been sober for a long time now, and is much more stable today in his temper The guitar virtuoso's been clean for 20 years! He admitted to having an alcohol problem when he was younger, but after getting tired of his partying ways, Malmsteen sobered up and hasn't drank or smoked since 2004. So today he is actually a very focused and stable personality and family man. Of course he has some of his ego ways left, but that's what it takes to get to the top. "Wake up in the morning, make it the best day of your life. Just make sure that every day is a good day! Thank the good lord that you're still around and you're doing the things you love, you have a beautiful family... I have what I need in life and I am very grateful!"

Oh yeah, absolutely a lousy record company making only one music video for this album that has plenty great songs. Dreaming is beautiful composition and many more. I can't hear any defect in Yngwie's playing after the accident, as JLT once said, "must be only in his own mind", since he's on fire here and adding lots of melody. Very consistent album, with lovely line-up.
