Great covers by Yngwie. He gives them an extra shot of talent and improves on them nicely. |
From: Kim | Date: June 14, 2002 at 15:04 |
I used to like Yngwie in his early days. He played some good guitar and made some good songs. I then got fed up reading about his MEGA ego, and how he disliked other musicians. then he made this cd, and I kinda bought it because nothing else was `new`in the cd store. It totally blew me away. Its a great collection of cover tunes. Just listen to Carry On Wayward Son(Kansas), Anthem(Rush),Child In Time(Purple) and The sails of Charon(U.Roth). Great cd. |

Hey KIM!!, I'm agree with you, I prefer the 2 first Cds too. Yngwie must to forget his mega-ego for be more complete as a guitar player, but... KIM !!!! you forgot to say the great work that Jeff Scott Soto did in the song "Gates of Babylon". ( In my opinion, is better than the original ) SORRY FOR THE RAINBOW FANS !! |

This is great tribute to fabulous bands like Rainbow, Deep Purple etc. but I must disagree with you JoseM: JSS sings fine in Gates of Babylon and he is talent guy, but he DOESN´T beat Ronnies amzing voice. But hey, opinion is like butthole, we all have it. |

JEFF SCOTT SOTO IS THE VOICE OF ROCK. I LIKE RONNIE JAMES DIO, BUT JEFF IS GOD |

Why do u guys dislike yngwie's music because of his ego?!?!? He is absolutely THE BEST guitarist in the world. I don't care even if he has a huge ego, it doesn't make his music any worse. Great album! ..just like all Yngwies! |
From: Propane | Date: December 2, 2004 at 21:59 |
This is one ass whooping disc. Nobody else would cover Pictures of home, Gates of Babylon, Mistreated or Demon's eye. Only the king of metal would appreciate these gems. Thanks to Yngwie for the superb job on Manic depression. Hendrix would tip the hat to you. |

HUGE CD 97/100 ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED ALBUM by THE SWEDISH MASTER / Did you check the line up !it's amazing and the musicals performances so ! Did you check the tracklisting ! PHENOMENAL ! I heard there is somewhere some unrealesed cover by UFO/GENESIS waiting ??? YNGWIE is YNGWIE and LOVE Him or HATE him ,he's one of the TRUE GENIUS of our time . |
From: shark attack | Date: April 7, 2008 at 12:29 |
Not the musical turd that might have been expected given the size of the man's ego, with Yngwie playing it fairly safe with a collection of tunes dominated by Blackmore penned classics plus the obligatory (crap) Hendrix cover among others. For my ears though, the real winner here is the cover of the SCORPIONS `The Sails of Charon` with its monstrous riff bringing out the best in Yngwie. Also of note is the RAINBOW cover `Gates of Babylon` with a spot on vocal by Jeff Scott Soto. 60/100 |

very interesting covers....with a little approach of progressive touch..Good stuff even for the old rockers of the seventies. |
From: sharatan | Date: December 28, 2008 at 4:16 |
here's the only rush track(with male vox) that i'm listening to. also mr. blackmore should listen to pictures of home(personally i never listened to the original again!). |

A lot of the songs are songs I was unfamiliar with being that I am not a huge fan of a lot of 70s rock, but by Yngwie-ing them, I found even the most unfamiliar tracks to sound fresh and ballsy. For me, the standout tracks are Wayward son and Child in time. I actually like both of the original versions of those two, but the versions on here are just monsters. Malmsteen isnt everyones cup of tea, but who cares what his ego is like, its the music that matters, and on this one he made all of these songs his own instead of changing his style and doing copycat covers. If you want to dislike a singer, guitarist or band etc because of ego, then you should stop listening to music entirely as most artists have ego's the size of large planets. |
