If you see any errors or omissions in the CD information shown above, either in the musician credits or song listings (cover song credits, live tracks, etc.), please post them in the corrections section of the Heavy Harmonies forum/message board.

The music discographies on this site are works in progress. If you notice that a particular American Dog CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Heavy Harmonies as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Please only submit official CD releases; no bootlegs or cassette-only or LP-only releases.

EPs and CD-singles from American Dog are also welcome to be added, as long as they are at least 4 songs in length.

American Dog continues to improve with each release, as the only thing really holding this one back is somewhat of a lack of hooks in places. But if you want hard-driving, heavy-drinking, bluesy, guitar-jamming "redneck metal," this is your band. Just don't expect clean, smooth, polished vocals (but you already knew that, right?) Steve Theado tears up the fretboard on this album especially. Favorites: the inspirational "Workin' Man," "Another Lost Weekend," "She Ain't Real Pretty," and the totally overlooked "Little Girl."

You gotta love American Dog, man. Three regular guys who did it all by themselves, for the love of the music, and did it very well for quite a long time. Scars-N-Bars is probably their fourth-best album, at the top of their second tier if you will. It sounds wonderful, but as I noted years ago, there are several songs that aren't terribly catchy, like "Faded," "Conviction" and "Lucky 13." "Burnin' Yesterday" and the closing-time anthem "Ten 'Til Two" both end in long guitar jams, which I'm not sure is necessary. "Workin' Man" and "Sunday Buzz" veer close to the lyrical dull-wittedness of pop-country, but are musically a ton of fun. The album as a whole is a perfect accompaniment to several cold, cheap beers, but the band would improve on the next couple albums.
