Kinda hard to get used to at first, but it'll grow on you after a while. I remember the video for Apple Pie and thought it was aweful. I have 4 six hour tapes of Headbangers Ball with no commercials or duplicated videos, and I came across the vid for it again. I kinda like them now. They were a little out of their time zone on the album. I was about 5 years ahead of it's time. Most of the songs are pretty humorous

From: The Prophet Date: May 9, 2002 at 13:32
A funny band. They played funky metal, the singer was dressed like a clerk. I bought the cassette for three dollars, I only like the first song. This is not my cup of tea, The second release Si o Si que cost just one buck, but I don't want to buy it.

From: Desslar Date: May 10, 2002 at 3:05
Apple Pie is a great, original song. The rest of this is mostly crap though, funky or not.

From: koogles Date: July 14, 2002 at 9:10
If Axl Rose was the lead singer for The Red Hot Chili Peppers circa "Mother's Milk" or earlier, it would sound like White Trash. "Apple Pie" and "The Crawl" are irresistable booty-swivelling funk jams but so much of this is goofy and disposable that an investment of any more than about 3 or 4 bucks constitutes a ripoff.

From: Gar Date: August 16, 2002 at 3:04
Liked "Apple Pie" enough to buy this one. The other songs aren't that good. At least they tried to be original, though.

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: August 16, 2002 at 21:11
Yep, I bought this CD because of the song "Apple Pie". I could never get into this album and it has alot of dust on it right now. I'm not cutting them down, it just doesn't do anything for me.

From: abdullah Date: December 23, 2002 at 21:27
I, too, bought this CD for the song "Apple Pie" and at the time was kinda let down by the rest of it. This CD came out when the funk metal thing was *HUGE* and that single was an obvious cash-in and somewhat misrepresentative. That's not to say that there aren't some good jams on here. Listening to this CD now I really enjoy. I hear alot of Aerosmith in some of their bluesier moments. Worth checking out.

From: Frank Deo Date: January 24, 2003 at 14:53
Just like every other person here I bought this CD for Apple Pie. This is one of my favorite songs. I love that Funk sounding rock. The other songs where Aaaa...From the sound of Apple Pie I expected the rest of the Cd to be pretty good but I was disappointed.

From: Poison Arrow Date: January 26, 2003 at 1:10
Very shitty album. Even apple pie isn't that good. intensely annoying style of music, kinda your pretentious coffee house asshole variety.

From: Tony Date: March 3, 2003 at 6:25
Man I'm glad I don't feel alone now. I TOO also bought his album based on hearing "Apple Pie" and was like "What the f#@k...?" upon hearing the rest of the disc. Kinda had that "hipster" alternative "better than thou" musician thing going on that EVERY band was starting to portray at the time. Just download "Apple Pie" and if you spend more than 2 or 3 bucks on this you'll regret it immediately upon listening!!

From: TIM Date: July 24, 2003 at 15:35
This one sucks! Gave it away years ago.

From: CC Date: November 1, 2003 at 22:33
Really liked this album but the second album did absolutely nothing for me!

From: Tom Date: November 14, 2003 at 14:21
Wow I am not going to flame anyone, lol, but in my opinion this is one of the best albums I have ever owned. It is very creative and full of hooks big enough you can hang a house on. If you have only listened to the first track " Apple Pie " you are missing out on what makes this a great album. I am a musician for 22 years now. I am 33 years old and I am a drummer. The melody lines in pretty much every song is so creative. The pop slap/bass and the drum tracks are amazing, not to mention the crea

From: Jeff Date: January 14, 2004 at 17:09
I totally agree Tom. This is one of my favorite discs from the 90s. I did get their second album, and it did not last long. Terrible follow up from what I recall. However, again - this album is one of my faves.

From: FM Date: January 24, 2004 at 22:22
Huh...I'm pretty surprised. Guess many of you must not like funky music... because this cd rocks big time, and the Apple Pie single is far from being the best track over here. To me, "Buzz" and "The Crawl" are the real standouts: besides, there is no real filler on the album. The band was original, all songs have nice hooks, the lyrics are humorous, the players brilliant, the production good. I really can't see anything wrong with this record, definitely one of the best ones from the early '90s.

From: Chris Date: February 3, 2004 at 20:25
I absolutely love this album. It was a huge disappointment to me that this band didn't go on to a more prolific career. Their second album, though similar, is the singer with an entirely new band. There are a couple fantastic songs (St. Moondog, Come Tuesday) but it doesn't touch the first album. The rest of the band went on to form a group called Hash, whose album is completely forgettable and features some pretty horrid vocals.

From: crazy mac Date: February 9, 2004 at 19:46
I think this album is great!!! I bought this album when it first came out I was only 11 years old and I still love it. It is great to sing along to and musically it is fantastic!! Whats not to like about this album? Music is suppose to make you feel good and this album always puts a smile on my face!!!!!

From: Shawn Date: February 13, 2004 at 1:18
This is an awsome album! The band is tight and have a unique sound. This album sounds better each listen. I did purchase their second effort and other than the remarkable "come tuesday" I could not get into it.

From: Impaler Date: February 22, 2004 at 12:32
I gotta agree with TIM above. This album sucks! Even 'Apple Pie' sucks! I listened to it in a used store and would not even consider dropping $2 for this much less the $3.99 asking price. This coming from a guy who buys hundreds of hard rock/AOR/sleeze/melodic metal CDs every year. If you like this then good for you but warning to the wise: listen before you buy.

From: Ethan Date: February 27, 2004 at 14:59

If you are Ethan Collins, I liked your stuff (even if you're not, I still like it), it was a lot different from most of the stuff out there. I still have the CD although I have to admit I haven't listened to it for quite some time. IMHO it's a fun album, doesn't take itself too seriously, and has pretty cool groove.

From: Aimee Date: March 13, 2004 at 12:35
One of My favorite bands, Apple Pie was a great single, and it brought out a new sound during a cookie cutter MTV phase Aimee

From: Fitz Date: March 17, 2004 at 8:48
Apple Pie was the hook that brought me in back when the video played on MTV, and now I rate this as one of my all-time favorite albums. How can you not dig the funky slap bass in "Buzz," the virtuosic intro and bridge/solo in "Prayer B4 Pizza," the wailin' harmonica on "Backstage Pass," the punchy horns on "Take My Soul," or the catchy guitar grooves on "Crawl?" Alvin's vocals can be admittedly shrill, but once you get used him the tracks really grow on you. An absolute funk-rock classic!

From: Date: March 22, 2004 at 14:16
This album kicks ass. One of my favorites from back in the day. I don't get these clowns slamming this record? The musicianship is stellar. Hook after bloody hook! It's a pretty unique band amongst bands for it's time, that's probably why they never quite made it. The really good one's always get spit out of the machine pretty fast. I'd pick this up if I were a clown like you!

From: Forbidde_Evil Date: April 9, 2004 at 11:49
Guys wtf is wrong with ya'll. This is a huge peice! Though I listen to much heavier music most of the time, i didnt stop listening to this album after i bought it by chance. Its almost flawless, it got all: Funky singer that is very talented and controls his voice very well, great bass player that actually CAN be heard, really good guitarist and not a korny drummer. Plus the horns and thr harmonica add much. My advice get this peice if you have the chance. Very original and keen music! 10!!!!!!!

From: A.J. Date: July 12, 2004 at 16:24
The members of the original White Trash (actually the drummer & bass player on the 1st album) went on with a different singer to form Hash. Which in my opinion was a great band. The c.d. is long out of print now but if you can find it buy it.

From: Carmine Rose Date: September 11, 2004 at 13:20
I'm sorry but White Trash really doesn't do shit for me. Apple Pie is all right, but it's nothing I can't live without.

From: Wotty Date: September 11, 2004 at 13:42
No style,No substance.Who actually likes this??.A friend actually had this, played it and then woke me up when it finished.I dont usually criticise other tastes so vehemently, but please stop this agony....

From: T-Bone Date: September 12, 2004 at 8:46
This cd was never meant to be taken seriously. They were a very diverse band and covered alot of styles. Apple Pie was a catchy tune back in the day.

From: Wotty Date: September 12, 2004 at 9:02
To T-Bone.As my last post concerning this read, its agony. Is there a fine between not being taken too seriously and rubbish. In this case a definite lean to the latter. It used to be called clogging up vinyl...

From: Wotty Date: September 12, 2004 at 9:19
Clogging up vinyl, how old am I??????

From: Marla (MJ) Date: September 12, 2004 at 12:45
This one took me a few minutes to warm up to the vocals....but OMG....the funk won me over! I love the brass section...I love the bass line....now, I love this!! Fave. songs ... of course "Apple Pie"....but I really like "Take My Soul" and "Baby".

From: Wotty Date: September 12, 2004 at 12:54
To Marla (MJ)Please...You showed clarity and some may say taste yesterday. But now, rearrange these words into a sentence:Yourself:The:In:Foot:Shot...

From: Marla (MJ) Date: September 12, 2004 at 13:01
LOL....I knew you'd have something to say, Wotty!!! It's all a matter of taste....I forgot to add funk to my list yesterday. If it makes me move...I like it. And this did. What can I say?? I like what I like. Ohhhhhh well.....lol.

From: Wotty Date: September 12, 2004 at 13:13
To Marla(MJ)Nothing wrong with observational banter, its a bit of a giggle, not unlike this album.OOOPS,Ive done it again, wow that sounds familiar....

From: Blaster Date: May 28, 2005 at 0:59
This album is unfairly maligned! This is a great party album with fun funky hair metal (oxymoron?). The slap bass and horns are great, they remind me of Extreme. Apple Pie is a fun song and the album is consistently good. A fun bit of trivia: the album cover was illustrated by legendary Mad magazine contributor Jack Davis.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 8, 2007 at 21:29
This band is a mixture of funk, rock and ska. This ain't my cup of tea but it was nice the effort they did into originality.Songs?none in particular even though i remenber watching a video in MTV years ago from this album and it was kinda nice, funny though.

From: syl70 Date: August 15, 2007 at 9:43
I have more than 2000 cds and this album of WHITE TRASH is one of the best cd I ever heard. The perfection. Guitar player is amazing, songs groovy and rock... There is no ska at all !! it's just heavy rock funk ...and very soon for the fans, Dave Alvin (the singer) will be back for an interview and more !!

From: CC Date: September 18, 2009 at 11:59
Still a great album after all these years. While Dan Reed was doing a more funky version of AOR, White Trash were more like a funky version of glam. Of course bands like DRN, Aerosmith, Electric Boys and Extreme all had funk elements, but none of them were quite as funk orientated as these guys. I probably would put most of those guys above White Trash as bands I like, but for my money, if you want a funk oriented rock album, this is the one to go for. Where Dan Reed was more serious, the White Trash lyrics were more humourous and upbeat. Songs like Apple Pie, Buzz, Judge me do and Po White Trash are instantly hookable, catchy party anthems, and if you took the horns etc out, wouldnt have been a million miles away from what a lot of the glam bands of the 80s were doing. I actually bought it back in the day on cassette without actually hearing anything from it, and loved it right from the off.

From: hair metal again Date: November 21, 2013 at 4:04
very good debut by WHITE TRASH and this is one of the best bands back in the day that mixed heavy, rock and funk !they also had a strong horn section and a strong groove in their sound which is quite enjoyable!"apple pie","backstage pass","judge me do" are good songs and the whole release shows how good musicians they are!if ya find it cheap ,grab it

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 6, 2014 at 18:20
What can you say? This is just a fun disc all around. You would think, in 1991, with hair-metal drowning in a sea of its own cheese and unoriginality (as we're constantly being told), a band like White Trash would have been more accepted by people searching for the Next Big Thing. But no, it's just another lost oddity swept up in the death throes of a genre it doesn't even sound like. Take your typical high-pitched glam-metal vocals, roll the distortion back a bit, add in tons of wah-wah, some slap bass, big swingin' beats and a horn section, and a quirky sense of humor, and you get White Trash. It makes you wanna party, even if you're all by yourself. It makes you wana dance, even if you don't dance. It makes you wanna shake yer ass, even if you ain't got one to shake. So while it was released the same time as last-gaspers by Southgang, Hericane Alice and Roxy Blue, White Trash's debut bears little resemblance to those barrel-scrapers.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 6, 2014 at 18:23
Ironically, I think more than a few people on this site don't like this CD for exactly that reason, that it DOESN'T sound like Heavens Edge or, worse, Alias. Standouts are the two singles, "Apple Pie" and "The Crawl," but also "Judge Me Do," "Po' White Trash," "Backstage Pass," "Buzz!" "Party Line," and "Prayer B4 Pizza."

From: MetalllianStallion Date: January 7, 2014 at 0:46
Another cosmic connection is that South Gang had a track "WHITE TRASH with cash". One man's trash is another's treasure, as I would would put Southgang on top of the 3 bands mentioned above, and definitely NOT barrel-scrapers in the Doghouse basement. That's mixing apples with oranges as this band had elements of jazz, funk blues, and rock so they are hard to pigeonhole (compare to southern rockers)as this band haled from NYC. They definitely where not Head-bangers ball material as Wiki categorizes this band as metal(eyes roll). How many bands of this time period had a brass section or a black guy (besides Living Color)? They where talented but sort of a a niche within a niche as they might have had more success if they mainstreamed their image by ditching the long hair, mohawk, ect. being on the tail end of the hair band glory days, but who knows. White Trash reminds me of another fun & original band not on HH "SCATTERBRAIN - Don't Call Me Dude" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbLhHtaVIO4

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 7, 2014 at 10:08
Not to get off-topic, but I admit to liking a few Southgang songs, but I liked 'em a lot better before I'd heard a full album and all its filler. Come on, dude, good musicians, but they were (yes, I'm going to invoke that name again) Firehouse Jr., if not Firehouse III. To each his own.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: September 6, 2017 at 21:29
If you are into the likes of RHCP then this act's 4 ya :-D ...my fave tracks are # 1,2,4,5,8,9 & 10...top notch funk rock in here 4 sure.85/100
