A little more rockier then "race to paradise". Some great songs on this one, like: "saterday night, trial by fire and wired up". A must have for every melodic rockcollector. 9/10.

This is a fantastic slice of Melodic rock, and definately my fave JP album. 'One Night Alone', 'Cryin'' & 'Charmed Life' all appeared on the debut Vixen album, but theses are the better versions overall (Good though the Vixen versions were). Also notable on this are the fabulous trio of 'Can't let Go', 'Heart To The Flame' and the excellent ballad 'A Matter Of Time'. Without doubt an album to track down at all costs.

Shame I didn't review this one, cause as Jez says: this is truly fantastic AOR stuff ! All songs are fantastic, but 'A Matter Of Time' is a beauty of a ballad ! So sensitive !

From: Swriter Date: March 30, 2005 at 18:02
wowowow, thanks feaky and jez, I totally forgot about this one, just pulled out the vinyl. I didn't even get that Cryin by Vixen was on this one first, I guess the band knew Jeff or loved his music. Fantastic stuff This is a must agree that Matter of Time must sit in the top ten balladsof the 80's!!!!

From: Geoff Date: March 31, 2005 at 3:53
Must agree with all the above - this is great stuff. I've just been listening to a bunch of Paris this afternoon and he's truly a wonderful artist. I also like 'Cryin' and 'One night alone' off this disc, both better than Vixen's versions IMO and two highlights. 'Matter of time' is very nice too, but this is a good melodic hard rock disc from a great talent.

Now I know I've said Race is my favourite release (it's the first I heard so I have a soft spot) If I'm truly honest I have to hold my hands up and say that this is probably the stronger album. Saturday Night is a rock club dancefloor filler no doubt. While One Night Alone and I Can't Let Go are great songs with choruses that are soooo infectious. Illusions finshes the album off with a nice kind of off the wall rocker.

Good AOR album, parce que los muchachos hispanos nos estamos olvidando de este buen solista, el album no sera una joya pero esta muy bueno, Heart to the Flame, I Can't Let Go(mis favoritas), A Matter of Time, Cryin... otro de esos albums que cae muy bien en tu coleccion. Recomendado.

another vinyl I Pulled out, so why is there no cd reissues on this one, great melodic hard rock that got lost in 87 somehow, great songs include one night, cryin, matter, can't let go and heart, what a great one indeed!!!!!!

From: Erik Date: August 28, 2005 at 4:44
Excellent disc yes. And i have it on cd Swriter

From: Nick C Date: August 28, 2005 at 6:58
Hoho! Yup Erik me too!!!! Now don't get mad now Swriter but I ended up having two copies for some weird reason I ordered it from two places at the same time (nut!) and sold one on. If I'd a known I would have saved it and you could have had it no prob!!! Just a few years too late I'm afraid . Ah well ... I don't think it's too hard to track down ... but it's a pretty fandabbydosy album!

From: swriter Date: August 28, 2005 at 11:51
hahaha, thanks Nick!!!!!! my vinyl is hanging in there for a fw more plays!!!!! ha

From: AOR freaky Date: August 29, 2005 at 3:44
Indeed, swriter : this one is out on CD. Don't know if it is still available now. I have my doubts ! Excellent stuff indeed. Not on CD untill now is his 'Race To Paradise' album and that one deserves a CD release !

swriter -This has been oput of print for a while now, but crops up fairly often on ebay, so shouldn't be a problem. 'Race To Paradise' is avaliable on CD, albeit as a very good quality boot, but is on the pricey side. Hopefully this will be officially released on day, but until then, the unofficial release will do quite nicely thankyou!!!

Un buen album de rock/AOR a la americana, no es un clásico pero tiene sus canciones. mis favoritas son "one night alone" "trial by fire", el tema "crying" que está tan bueno como la versión que hacen los vixen, "i can´t let go" "heart to the flame" tambien de bueno como la version de Van Zant, "illusions" y un tema muy especial llamado "a matter of time" otro baladón que no puede pasar desapercibido, 8.5/10

KILLER! Simply killer! I'm very impressed by the covers of "Cryin" and "Charmed Life". "I Can't Let Go" and "Saturday Night" are downright AWESOME original songs as well. I think I have a new fave solo artist! Sounds kinda like Don Henley meets Lou Gramm.

ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER!! All songs are AMAZING, the beat, the melody, the lyrics everything it´s just so cool!! My favorite Jeff paris cd! But i always had a question about this album...Maybe someone here could help me!? The songs Cryin and One night alone, are Jeff paris songs ?? Vixen made a cover in their sefl titled album a few years latter, and i´ve heard that Richard marx was in this mess to, i don´t know if he helped on the lyrics, whatever... I Just wanna know who created those songs?? Was it Jeff?? His versions of those songs and lucky this time(93, co-writted with Mr.Big) are farrrr more better!

Just picked this one up yesterday. Never heard any of his stuff before so took a chance and was a good choice. I was pleasantly surprised. I like it. Good 80's rock - guess it falls in to the Glam/Hard Rock/AOR category. Some pretty good songs on here and when I heard "I Can't Let Go" it sounded familiar like I heard it somewhere before but I never have; that's a real good song and sounds like a big radio hit from the era that never was. Has a very catchy, melodic, poppy, rock sound to it with nice keys. 73/100.

Just received this today. This is great stuff!! AOR with some kick. Just how I like it. Highly recommended!!!

Everything about this CD just perfectly encompasses that mid- to late-'80s commercial/melodic rock sound, rather reminiscent of what Bon Jovi was doing at the time. The hooks soar higher than the Eiffel Tower, the hair is teased out in a poodle-esque puff, pastel colors plaster the cover, and the songs themselves are instantly accessible, custom-engineered for singing along, complete with lots of big backing vocals. Jeff just plugs in his electric guitar and rocks out like a hot spark-hurling livewire. This one will get you up and moving, no doubt about it.

One of his most successfuls albums but for me Race To Paradise is a better one and like the first comment said(zld,2005)a bit rockier than the aforementioned...a matter of tastes obviously...best tracks for me are "Cryin'"(a song covered by the former lady killers of Vixen)& "I Can't Let Go"...other goodies are the rocking opening "Saturday Nite","One Night Alone" & "Heart To The Flame"(another one that rocks too)...Mr Paris undoubtebly is in the same league as Stan Bush,Stan Meissner & Terry Brock just to mention some artists that you might relate him with...91/100

Rock Candy just announced they will be reissuing this cd

From: edwithmj Date: June 24, 2016 at 18:24
Firstly, One Night Alone, Cryin', and Charmed Life are much better than their counterparts on the Vixen debut. Jeff's voice is just so much better (also it's easier to make out the lyrics). Of the other songs, I Can't Let Go is simply superb but the true highlight of the whole album is the sensational ballad A Matter of Time. Jeff's voice on this one really adds pure emotion to the song and I truly wonder why this one song didn't make him a global megastar. The album finishes with a decent guitar-laden heavy rock song in Illusions. Jeff's best work by far.
