Love Don't Live Here Anymore is great, but the rest of the cd rips off Skid Row more than any other band I know. They sound almost identical. You'll think you're listening to Slave To The Grind with brand new lyrics. These guys came closer than Slik Toxik or anyone else. Although the songs are fun, they still don't have the edge that Skid Row had.

From: Desslar Date: April 28, 2002 at 17:36
Cool Skid Row-like sound, albeit somewhat lighter with a bit of a punk feel. The ballads are fantastic, the rest is disposable but fun.

From: David Date: April 28, 2002 at 17:52
I must say I think this is a great album, o.k. it's sounds like Skid Row but what's wrong with that?, in my opinon the more bands that sound like Skid Row the better. I also think Slik Toxik kick arse as well!

From: macD Date: June 8, 2002 at 10:50
The greatest live band I ever saw. Svengali were fantastic - yeah they sound like skidrow but so did EMN & Slik Toxik but the production & strength of songs shines through. They blew it with album two though...

From: Venom Date: June 29, 2002 at 23:08
You have heard of one hit wonders. Well Sven Gali was a one Album wonder. Much like the Band The Poor. With the song More Wine Water Please. They are in the colum. Where are they now. D O N E.

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: August 30, 2002 at 17:09
First; Skid Row has a sound like Sven Gali. 10/10

From: nitrodoll Date: September 6, 2002 at 10:34
i bought this one in 1993, still remember being blown away by tracks like 'real thing','25 hours a day', and 'here today, gone tomorrow..'i remember also their second album where they had all new haircuts and a grungy disc that i didn't like at all (a bit like wildside second release) pity, damn pity nitrodoll1974@hotmail.com still under the influence of sven gali

From: TIM Date: September 6, 2002 at 15:47
No offence to you guys, but I thought this group was very boring. Sure, the singer sounds like Sebastian Bach but they are missing the hits- same with Slik Toxik. All their songs are rather plain except for maybe "Love Don't Live Here Anymore." I just think they are pretenders to the throne.

From: aaron gillis Date: November 4, 2002 at 16:16
this cd was great i think to many people are to busey compairing them to other bands they are not skid row and i find they have there own sound you will never hear skid row come out with a song like 25 hours a day why don't ya's jsut take it for what it is a perfect example of a great canadian hair band at there best

From: Gar Date: November 8, 2002 at 1:34
This one's good, but avoid their 2nd one at all costs.

From: Kris M Date: January 24, 2003 at 22:46
Although not overly original, this album is still one of my all time faves of this genre. These guys also did a wicked 12" that was given away at their UK gigs. If you can find it anywhere it's an absolute must (its got a brilliant cover of "body count"). These were also some of the nicest guys I've met. After their London gig for example, they filled their bus with fans, and took everyone back to their hotel for a party (and what a party that was!!!).

From: rachel bolan Date: February 20, 2003 at 4:38
still competition really like skid row song "youth gone wild"

From: Kristian Date: April 20, 2003 at 12:33
I love this album, still play it over and over again, Sweet Little Gypsy, Whisper In The Rain and 25 Hours A Day are the best. How come their second cd Inwire aren't on the site?

From: CC Date: October 19, 2003 at 12:06
Brilliant Skid Row like album, but still has a lil something that sets it apart from the Skids! Great rockers, great ballads & just an all round kick arse album! One word of warning though,do not buy the second album "In Wire" as it was a terrible alternative bandwagon jumping album & you wouldnt even know it was the same band (Wildside did exactly the same thing).

From: Tammy Date: October 27, 2003 at 18:42
I must be missing something here... I bought my first Sven Gali CD when it first came out and was impressed with it's genuinity of origional rock rifs, sexy lip licking grinds and unique lyrics. I don't *hear* Sebastian on it at all. Then again, I've always been so far removed from sterotyping- comparrissons and things of that genre. I for one, am heart broken that they aren't together anymore. Beter management would probably have saved them. Tammy

From: RICARDO Date: March 22, 2004 at 8:43
DE DONDE PUEDO SACAR ESTE DISCO, HAY ALGUNA PAGINA O ALGUN SITIO DONDE PUEDA BAJARMELO?

From: Rene Date: March 22, 2004 at 16:45

From: ricardo Date: March 23, 2004 at 13:33

From: Rene Date: March 24, 2004 at 11:32

From: Date: March 24, 2004 at 13:45

From: Rene Date: March 24, 2004 at 18:39
Pues no Ricardo.

still competition have a same tones with youth gone wild

From: Geoff Date: August 23, 2004 at 8:30
For me, if they'd stopped it halfway and released it as an EP it would be the greatest hard rock EP of all time. There are no better openers than 'Under the Influence' IMO,'Tie Dyed Skies' is one of the best hard rock songs I've ever heard,'Sweet Little Gypsy' is also killer, with a huge commercial edge,'In My Garden' is a flawlessly written track and another fave,'Freakz' is a brutal and monster hard rocker and 'Love Don't Live Anymore' is the perfect balladic closer and a true gem of a song.

From: Geoff Date: August 23, 2004 at 8:31
...BTW, IMO the rest of the songs are cool slabs of hard rock, but none as essential as the first 6. Just okay, but the first 6 are sensational!!!

From: Sven Date: August 30, 2004 at 17:24
Under the influence !! hell of a song.. a must have cd.. it kicks butt Boo Yaa

From: Raggz Date: October 7, 2004 at 18:26
Excellent band...Excellent cd. Excellent!

From: Raggz Date: October 7, 2004 at 18:28
Oh..forgot to mention....WHO CARES IF THEY SOUND LIKE THIS BAND OR THAT BAND..Just enjoy the damn music!!!

From: Andii Vamp Date: December 12, 2004 at 22:07
Got it today along with many albums i had lost back in the day, but this was ONE band i couldn't find this album for all those years ago and god knows i tried back then! Upon listening to it tonight... 2 words... f*****g awesome!!

From: punkiz/obesisvo Date: December 20, 2004 at 11:28

From: punkiz/obsesivo Date: December 20, 2004 at 11:32

From: Border Rat Date: January 31, 2005 at 13:12
An amazing cd which has all the hallmarks of SKID ROW.This is brilliant music and the vocalist could have easily sung on SLAVE TO THE GRIND.Under the influence is a belter of a song as is the closing track Disgusteen.Whisper in the rain & love don't live here anymore are great ballads.Get the BMG version of this cd because the Axekiller version skips on the first track. This is a filler free rock cd and a real classic.Do not get their second cd.

From: Sex Driver Date: August 8, 2005 at 12:26
doesn't have to do anything with Skid Row,more seems like Bang Tango, but I liked the band!11!!1

From: headbanger4life Date: January 26, 2006 at 2:03
This sounds like Canada's answer to Skid Row. Pretty good in your face hard rock. I really liked the opener "Under the Influence".

From: Gecko Date: August 19, 2007 at 9:55
It makes me laugh to read all these post from critics who know nothing about this band.Sabastain who went on to form Skid Row played in a band called V05. His band played covers and use to open on tour for Svengali and use to beg them to let his band open ( Svengali all original music) across southern Ontario.Slick Toxic was not even a bar band or in the picture. Who copied who here. As for the second album it is also killer. Written long before grunge scene. So what is they cut their hair so di

From: Gecko Date: August 19, 2007 at 10:02
So what if they cut their hair. Eddy Vedder from Pear Jam had long hair and cut his and then made fun of all the long hairs as posers when he obtained commercial success. There is an never will be another band like Svengali. Way ahead of their time and both albums are current even today. This band was banned from playing so many different small towns and cities in Canada due to its reputation. The bands reputation was based on fact and not some made up hype bull. Dontl listen to what you hear on

From: BIG-TIME Date: May 12, 2008 at 11:46
BIG pile of steaming shit...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

From: GlamSlam Date: August 24, 2009 at 1:28
This is the band which is really good Skid Row clone, great players n great singer, this record rocks from start to end. BUY IT

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 3, 2011 at 19:22
In agreement with the comments were it said that this act sounded too similar to Skid Row,i'd say it is not that much, just in certain parts...some good rocking tracks such as "Under The Influence" with a pretty good video also,"Sweet Little Gypsy","Stiff Competition" & "Here Today Gone Tomorrow"...anothe highlights are "Freakz" & "Love Don't Live Anymore" that is the almost perfect follow up to Extreme's "More Than Words" anthem...a decent album...87/100
