Way better than his prior solo efforts, strongly leaning towards the classic KISS material. Jean Beauvoir has always been an addept of the old KISS school and with VOODOO X he managed to combine the best of both worlds. His pop/rock background and great skills larded with the best melodic rock ever. VOODOO X are on of rock's best kept secrets.

I agree this is a really good album but the Kiss thing I just don[t hear. I hear more of a Whitesnake-Def Leppard-Bad English than any Kiss stuff except for the opening track. Everyone should hear this album if you loved the music out in 89'

What an album !!! It took me ages to get hold of this gem and boy was it worth it. Intense stuff with Beauvoir, Lafferty and Co. kicking major ass !!!

This cd was worth getting for The Awakening alone. I lost my Shocker Soundtrack years ago and it was one of the songs on it.

Good album, but not a killer album and far from a classic. Well worth listening, but nothing more. This kind of music is done much better !

This has been re-released on www.point-music.com. The reissue contains the 4 tracks that were on the import version. Great AOR cd.

This is a good melodic rock / AOR release. Very polite, for lack of a better word and lacking any real bite to it, but it is a good release for what it is. I prefer prime Crown of Thorns, but then again this is also a lot better than a lot of Crown of Thorns stuff too! Good CD.

This has slightly more of a pop feel than Crown of Thorns, and a ropey production, but some great songs. 'One Riff' is a killer catchy tune, as is 'Into the Night'. 'A Lover Like You' is very poppy and is on another album I have (will not mention it, is a little embarrassing), but generally there are some very good tunes on here. Not a match for the first or latest Crown of Thorns, and I also like Beauvoir's latest 'Chameleon' effort more, but still excellent. 8/10.

UUUUUUUUUhhhh Paul Stanley ? Yes of course mister Beauvoir sounds as two waterdrops as the 'STARCHILD'. Listen to 'Don t Bother Me', 'Voodoo Queen' etcetera and you know what I mean. EXCELLENT album !! 85 points

Great album from a talented band. Jean definately shines on this one, from the hard crunch of the opener, 'Don't Bother Me' and 'Like a Knife', to the melodies of 'Into The Night' and 'One Riff' to the heartfelt balladry of 'What Can I Do' and 'Have You Had Enough'. 'Voodoo Queen' to this day stands as Jeans greatest song. Would love to see a Voodoo X 2.

Pretty good album, although not as good as the debut from Crown of Thorns, but loses further marks for the TERRIBLE artwork, especially on the Now and Then release...the original gold one was much better.

Although I love Crown of Thorns, this is just so much better. Why didn't Beauvoir stick with this band? They sound like a cross between Europe and soul music. There isn't one bad song on here. Lover Like You and Voodoo Queen are my fave songs but the whole album was worth the weeks of searching! Brilliant 9.5/10

Killer album!!!!!!..loved it in its all...Jean Beauvoir has been a sort of underrated artist,not the strongest recognition he deserved( "underrated" in the good sense of the word,because basically he has had some success as a composer and movie/series song writer),a guy that teamed up with the great Wendy O Willians in that famous punk rock band named The Plasmatics many years ago (late 70's up to mid 80's) and then pursued a solo career with some kind of success (do you remember the song "Feel The Heat" from the Cobra movie)not to forget this band Voodoo X (with only this release) and Crown Of Thorns (his actual band)..anyway "I'm On Fire" explosive,"Voodoo Queen" solid,"A Lover Like You" wonderful AOR,"Don't Bother Me" excellent,"Into The Night" highlight,"What Can I Do" a beauty,"One Riff" highlight,"Like A Knife" rocky and catchy...the especial edition brings some extra tracks that are mainly like some kind of remixes of some of these tracks plus non album tracks.Buy!96/100

excellent release by VOODOO X back in 89 and this one has a unique sound,approach and a strong commercial feel all over!Jean s presence is very obvious and Max Norman does a great job in production!All the songs are pretty good and especially "voodoo queen","a lover like you",'into the night" and "have you had enough"!highly recommended stuff for hard rockers

i m agree with many comments about this record.excellent record,brilliant and varied.not the cd of the century but pleasure guaranted with this very very great realise.ok track 11 "happy birthday" is average but it s the only little weak point of this realise.the rest is a perfect mix of hard rock (track 1.4and 10),a o r (tracks 3.5.6.8and 9)and splendid hard fm two jewels track 2 and 7 "voodoo queen" and "the awakening".two bonus tracks on the japan import:an extended version of voodoo queen and a big filler (track 13).

This 1989 CD (the gold cover artwork of course the coolest looking!) is the best collection of songs ever by Jean B & Tommy Lafferty. It has great songs (no filler imo), stellar performances and great Max Norman production (I'd like a little more bass though if being very picky). This album has a great feeling, a mix of pop/hardrock riffs and beautiful ballads. A very good melodic rock album. Max Norman struck gold with Ozzy and Megadeth, but he did some less selling albums, like this one "The Awakening", Dirty Looks (1988 gold was ok), Bangalore Choir and 220 Volt "Eye To Eye" that are just as amazing.

Incredible line-up, magnificent songs and truly a somewhat lost gem. Two killer singles and videos for What can I do and Voodoo Queen, and a decent label should have meant more success. But you also need lots of luck in a cut-throat business. Nevertheless, this is one truly great AOR album, mostly all killer no filler and lots of hit candidates. Jean has a very strong and pleasant singing voice, guitar work by Tommy Lafferty is melodic and rich. As audiophiles know, remasters often sound awful (too compressed, distorted and loudness as fuck), but this album's remaster (on AOR Heaven) by very skilled engineer and musician Chris Lyne was surprisingly impressive. There are two songs that even though only recorded as demos, a little rough, have killer choruses. They were not from sessions by Crown of Thorns but from this album's sessions, The Rain and Winterland. Those are awesome too! And original artwork was great. Keyboardist Jörn-Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen looked like DLR's brother

Yes Stixx, the 2011 reissue by AOR Heaven sounds very good, stellar song Winterland is on it, but I miss The Rain. But does not really matter that much, still an awesome album, and yes vocals are killer by Jean, and ha-ha u got that right about Jorn-Uwe being a David Roth look-alike
