Somewhat mediocre compared to Sign In Please and Loud And Clear, but Steve Lynch's guitar prowess shines on this album. My picks: Take No Prisoners, Blondes In Black Cars, and the epitome of 8 finger hammering the song Hammerhead. The dude can play!

Just a side note it isnt the best one put out! But if your lucky enough there were misprints of that release. It was called 'Thats The Surf'! Good luck finding it, my buddy had a copy in casette form. Good band to bad they fell to the wayside.

The title track and the ballad You'll Get Over It are good but the rest of tracks are b**ish*t. Buy Loud and Clear instead.

Harvey u r an a-hole if u dont like the tracks on this album...Blondes in Black cars is what 80's rock signified...its the type of song u listen to with the windows and top rolled down...600 RMS watts pumpin out the radio...woofers big enough to make it feel like Mike Tyson is pounding u in the chest...get to a stop light...then crank it to 11 ...rip the F'in knob off and smile to the babe in the car next to you...did i mention i like the album? ...Quote the WidoMakr....never more

Sean said it. Steve Lynch is the man and he is a guitar god. You have to see him play live with his out-of-the-world eight-finger tapping technique--lightning fast soloing and stunning accuracy. Where the hell is he now?

Don't you people noticed the solo on Six String Fever? It's not fast, but Steve Lynch really put some interesting melody on it. He made his guitar sing and it's not just following the melody of the song. Anyway, don't know if this is really Autograph's weakest release but what I know is it is still worth having.

Hello!I got the red cover one of this album,it seems not like remastered one.But there is no We're An American Band included,and it shows Made in Japan on the disc.What's different between those two version,thanks!(I got this one on Djangos)

david the red version is the original cover of the album. Then the blue version came out. the only difference between the two is that the song 'six string fever'(on blue)is different from the red version(american band or something)

I got the 'red' version of the CD in the late 80's and the robot is doing a slightly different pose and it still has 'six string fever' on it, not 'american band'. any ideas? Do I have a rarer version?

As far as I know, this is the release history of this album: originally, it was released with a red cover, and it had 'Six String Fever.' Then, for some reason they later released a blue version of the album that had 'American Band' in place of 'Six String Fever.' Finally, it was recently reissued with a red cover and 'American Band' instead of 'Six String Fever.' So, Rick, I have no idea how your version of the album came about. That's cool though; it must be ultra-rare...

While none of the songs here are as good as 'Turn Up the Radio', overall, I like this disc MUCH better than 'Sign In Please'. 'Blondes in Black Cars', 'That's the Stuff', and 'Paint This Town' are my faves. I think I've got the LP of this stashed away somewhere around here....

Back in the 80s in NZ I came across the album 'Thats the Stuff' and loved the 'Changing Hands' track. However in the move from New Zealand to Australia the album was lost. Havent been able to find it in Australia and would like some info on finding it. I work in a radio station and would love to get it out on air. Thanks

Blue cover, red cover, no cover... this CD is a classic and my favorite of the three they released in the 80s. Whereas "Sign in Please" had soaring highs, this CD was a more even ride... so if you like a CD that plays solid from start-to-finish, get this one.

I agree with you AOR Freaky...This one is VERY mediocre compared to the blast debut!! The band even says so themselves...They were under a lot of pressure during the recording of this album...It ain't bad but it just lacks "The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of" :-)

I think this is a pretty good album. Maybe not as good as the debut though. The title track really rocks, and then you have great songs like "Blondes in Black Cars" and "Paint This Town". Also the guitar instrumental is freakin' cool. Maybe there's a filler or two, but overall a good album.

Although I really like Steve Plunkett and he writes some truly sensational melodic gems, he also has an unbelievable ability of writing filler. Unfortunately, IMO, of all Autograph albums this has the most filler. Well, maybe not as it's still quite good and consistent, but it just doesn't have the gems that all their other CDs have. Nowhere near as good as the debut IMO.

Geoff's right, lots of filler on this, so much so I got rid of it years ago, not worth the eBay price. I liked You'll Get Over It, Hammerhead, and Built For Speed but the rest is ridiculous and like Steve T. said, it cost them their career. Despite Lynch's heroics, the rock community never took this band seriously, relegating them to pop. To save their career they needed a monster follow-up, and despite the presence of Andy Johns as producer, it just didn't happen. First album is the best.

Love all the the autograph cd's. Can't detect that much difference between all three; the're all good. I think this is one of the better album covers around. The artwork ("blue cover",a.k.a. "sexy robot") was done by Hajime Sorayama, a wellknown airbrush-artist from japan, now living in the usa. Aerosmith also used one of his painting for their "just push play" album. The red autograph cover is a 'fake'. Somebody stole the sexy robot-concept and remodelled it a bit.

Great following album after the release of their "Sign In Please" debut.Nice Hard Rock/AOR album with really catchy songs such as "Crazy World","Take No Prisoners","You'll Get Over It" and so on...if you like the sweet side of Rock then this one won't be a waste!!!.90/100

this one is very good, but the debut is much better and i'm not sayin this because of their biggest hit, but because here's more fillers. but for sure this record has gems too, like: Crazy World, Changing Hands, Built for Speed and We're an American Band, which one was put on Japanese (i think) release instead of Six string fever,which can be found here.

You know, what's the deal with the cover situation? I had the reissue from Spitfire with the red cover and "We're An American Band" which is a decent, mediocre cover and could do without so I sold it since I found an original 1985 RCA release with the Blue Cover and has "Six String Fever" (much better than the cover of American Band) which I thought was the rarest - I never see a blue cover anywhere. So what was released first - the 1985 RCA original red or blue cover? Anyways, this album gets a 80/100 and is certainly worth owning if you're a big 80's glam fan.

Autograph is one of those bands that gets better with time. Every album they released (at least their first three -- I don't have anything after that), was better than the last. I love Autograph, you just have to crank it up to 11 when you're listening to it. Steve Plunkett's vocals and songwriting are great and Steve Lynch is an astounding, highly underrated guitarist. Can't get enough of this band!

The first pressing of this release was the blue cover. The band had gone to Vigon/Seirenni again (the same people who did the robot hand for "Sign In Please", & this time their idea was a whole female robot looking sexy- a full body version of what was on the 1st release. Afterwards RCA heard from a Japanese illustrator named Hajime Sorayama who claimed that they stole his artwork. He did a book called "Sexy Robots" a couple of years before & Vigon/Seireeni had pinched one of his designs in the book. So instead of a lawsuit, they settled by putting a t-shirt on the robot, changing the motion & the color to red (which is version #2).

Got the remastered CD version of this album recently with a B/T "We're An American Band" originally of Grand Funk Railroad(basically i did it for it because i own the vinyl for ages)adding something else to my comment of April 2009 well the GFR cover is just a simple one and quite a filler honestly(i would have reissued this only with the original songs of the first pressing)..."Built For Speed" actually could be the best cut of the album(even superior to "Blondes In Black Cars which i like too and is the "hit" of the album),"That's The Stuff"( ),"Crazy World"(catchy chorus)& "Six String Fever"(AORish one)...this band deserved even more recognition than they did,play in big stadiums and so on...only God knows what happened...86/100

Not that great of a follow up to the very good debut. Not that it's horrible or anything like that, just a lot of filler. That's the stuff, Take no prisoners, & Blondes in black cars are the high lights for me.

really cant understand why this one didnt make it and i write some strange comments!the way i see things this is excellent commercial hard rock music with a fantastic polished production,a strong commercial edge and fantastic performance by the band!"you ll get over it","take no prisoners","six string fever","blondes in black cars" are great tunes!AUTOGRAPH is a great act of the mid 80s !

a super record.i m not agree with steve plunkett when he say that "sign is please" is better.i ve "that s the stuff" red cover reissue by candy with one top class bonus track.(n°11" we are an american band".a marvellous reissue with a very complete booklett with many pictures,all the (difficult) history of the building of this record, and an exeptional sound.this album is more varied than their first excellent effort.we have all the trademarks of autograph and more we have two top class aor songs (tracks 4 and 7),a fantastic hard rock song (track 9) and a super hit for americabn radios (track 3).pleasure guaranted!!!!!
