I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS BAND PLAY. BUT SCOTT BENDER WAS THE SINGER FOR A BAND THAT PRACTICED IN MY BASEMENT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. THEY ROCKED. FIRST THEY WERE CALLED CAMELTOE THEN 30 STORIES STRAIGHT. WHATS UP GUYS!

A great hard rock album !!!

From: Mike A Date: December 20, 2001 at 19:03
One of my favorite cd's. 'Walks Like A Woman' is a great anthem type rocker with a big vocal sound.'It's About Time' & 'There Was A Time' are awesome ballads & 'Melenie' is AOR at it's best. Kelly Keeling has one of the best voices in melodic hard rock.

From: Reno Date: May 3, 2002 at 0:22
This is the better of their first 2 cd's. I liked it, but wasn't wow'd by it. I still listen to a few tracks from it. Tracks 1,2,9,and 10 were the best ones in my opinion

From: jason Date: June 1, 2002 at 19:59
I remember seeing a video of their's way back when........Nothing about the song turned me on. Now I am trying to remember what song it was. I have looked through the first two CD's on this page and nothing rings a bell. Oh well, this band ain't that good and thats all you need to know!

From: koogles Date: July 8, 2002 at 19:19
You can't go wrong with any of the Baton Rouge CDs. Great music to work out to. Brick-wall production and high testosterone choruses will impress any Winger fan.

From: Drag-in-Bones Date: July 21, 2002 at 14:28
'Baton Rouge'-Tormented artist's wallowing in delicious agony over the art of music and the meaning of life. This band makes you feel anything but drowsy. More than TITS & ASS ROCK, these songs fill a void left by 'Whitsnake', 'Def Leppard' and maybe 'Journey'. They have a variation of a blues feel, a hard rock feel and that contemporary type feel. ME LIKE!!!

From: Gar Date: August 25, 2002 at 20:19
Yeah, I do detect a Journey influence. The songs are very melodic. Good enough album, but none of the songs really stand out.

From: holyroller Date: January 16, 2004 at 23:30
This album is one of the great lost rock albums of the early '90s. They had what it took to break big at the time, great anthemic lead single 'Walks Like A Woman' and two fantastic ballads to follow up 'It's About Time' and 'There Was A Time'. Also, Kelly Keeling was a great singer, kind of a southern-tinged David Coverdale. There were an awful lot of 'hair metal' bands that emerged between 1990 and 1992, and most of them only had two or three good songs on their albums. These guys were an excep

From: Rocker76 Date: January 30, 2004 at 11:36
Holyroller! You said it all my friend! Baton Rouge were an exceptional band from that era. I dare anyone to find a weak track on this album. Not sure if the AOR label is 100% accurate - sounds like killer melodic hard rock to me - you got the power ballads and you got the up-tempo stuff. Kelly Keeling is a formidable singer (reminds me of S. Hagar at times) and the entire band plays in a very tight groove which keeps each track very strong. Highly recommended for AOR/melodic metal fans!

From: CC Date: February 18, 2004 at 22:32
Absolutely stunning album that I only bought cause it was cheap (I now own all three) & boy was it a surprise! Best description I can give is Sammy Hagar meets Bonfire! Fan-fucking-tastic!

Hey all! I have been searching for my own copy of 'Shake Your Soul' ever since my friend lent me his copy, on cassette back in 1994!! After searching every music store in the city i live in (i'm from Australia), it seems ive finally found it! yay! An awesome album from the moment i first heard it. Peace...

From: Kip Date: August 31, 2004 at 1:48
WOW! These guys had an ear for melody and a penchant for bang-up group sung, high octane choruses. Incredibly crafty with combining strong riffs with great vocal melodies and lyrics, Baton Rouge is one of the more overlooked and underappriciated Melodic Rock band of all time. The first 10 tracks are all A+ tunes and some of my favorite songs of all time. (excluding the short instrumental filler) Their sound never grows old and I'm always in the mood for Baton Rouge. 10/10!!

From: Geoff Date: August 31, 2004 at 10:07
I must admit I am not a huge fan of Jack Ponti's style of song writing because it becomes dreary where others like Desomnd Child remain explosive, IMO. That said, this is one of the best CDs I own with Jack's name on it. 'Walks like a woman' is killer commercial hard rock, 'It's about time' is a great ballad, 'Melenie' is a killer commercial hard rocker and a fave, and 'There was a time' is a perfect ballad. Otherwise I think there are a few fillers, but a great hard rock CD either way.

This is a very good release. Kelly Keeling can really let it go. Check out George Lynch's Furious George to hear more. I have not been disappointed with any of the Baton Rouge's releases. All very solid.

This is a very underrated hard rock cd, Keeling has the bluesy coverdale-ish vocal thing going without being a cheap copy, and Walks like a woman', and spread like fire' totally smoke. pick this one up!

Love it! This is awesome melodic hardrock. This is what it sounds like when everything fits together perfectly. I really can't tell you if this one or 'Lights out..' is their better album. They are both excellent and so much alike. Get them both if you can!

Jack Ponti's style in songwriting is wonderful, thanks to his far italian origins...ehehhe....Jack Bridges you oughta call him,'cause 'Ponti' in italian means 'Bridges'!!!...one of the few records that I listen to without skipping any track...my favorite: 'The was a time (the storm)',incredible ballad!!!!

From: Nelson Date: March 2, 2006 at 13:32
Listening to this reminds me of listening to a pre-school nursery rhymes CD. It has more sing-along chorus for your buck that it is almost funny. THAT'S WHY I LIKE IT!!!

From: aorteto Date: November 29, 2006 at 12:35
Nearly perfect american melodic rock. Super catchy, amazing songs ( BAD TIME COMIN` DOWN is my fav ), great guitars and a pure-feeling singer.

From: Metalmusicman Date: January 1, 2007 at 14:14
Another one of those great melodic rock albums that snuck in under the radar. Even though the radio played the hell out of 'Walks Like A Woman', which is a kick ass song!!! The band came out of nowhere and yet served up a platter of tasty little morsels. 'There Was A Time' and 'It's About Time' are two of the best ballads ever. The only problem here is that it is kinda hit and miss with the song quality. Still very enjoyable and quite good.

From: Melodiker Date: March 26, 2007 at 23:40

good melodic hard rock album. it's very polished and well produced, but the band sounds like any other from that era and genre, they didn't show anything new here. my favs: Doctor, Walks Like a Woman, Big Trouble, It's About Time and Baby's So Cool

What a great cd. Walks Like A Woman,Doctor,Young Hearts,Big Trouble and of course the 2 ballads-It's About Time and There Was A Time, what a year this was!

From: parasiteladyxo Date: January 20, 2012 at 16:29
I absolutely love these guys. The first two albums are great and I've been listening to them for quite a few years. Kelly Keeling is a great vocalist (who I believe was on a Blue Murder track "I'm On Fire") and they're one of my favorite 90s bands.

From: hair metal again Date: June 5, 2014 at 16:33
excellent debut by BATON ROUGE back in 90 and a perfect example of mr Ponti s ability in songwriting!the songs are great ,the sound hard rockin and commercial and the result could be better if the guitars were more on the front!"walks like a woman","melenie","there was a time","doctor" and "it s about time " are great songs and overall Shake Your Soul a fine hair metal release!you just could nt go wrong back in the day

Yeah, hair metal again is right - the whole sound could have been more sharp-edged because the rhythm guitar (mainly) really takes a back seat (IMO uselessly). In spite of that we get catchy arena hard rock full of testosterone and energy. If you are addicted to bands like early Winger, Babylon A.D. or Alice Cooper (at that time being) you surely have this cd at home. 85/100.

From: edwithmj Date: December 24, 2014 at 8:32
Another excellent debut. Doctor is slightly lacklustre but I think the album picks up from Walks Like A Woman which has very catchy vocals that can't help but stick in my mind. Big Trouble, It's About Time and the brilliant Bad Time Comin' Down all contain rich melodies and the now signature catchy vocals and lyrics. I can leave the instrumental and the album starts to falter afterwards but picks up again with the super Melenie and Hot Blood Movin'. Really pleased I got this as I've been coming back to this again and again recently.

top class american hard rock.only hits (thanx to jack ponti).simply exceptionnal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: metalmaniac777 Date: February 14, 2018 at 16:11
Batten down the hatches, boys, because this is some explosive hair-metal/hard rock. If you're a fan of that big hooks/big vocals/big choruses style, then you'd probably rather rub dog shit on your tongue than part with this album, because it perfectly captures that arena-sized sound. The band does nothing to shake up the polished pop-metal approach that was so popular in 1990, opting instead to execute the formula with sing-along energy. Backed by the impressive songwriting skills of Jack Ponti, these guys really delivered the goods, kicking around in the same slickly-produced sandbox as Winger, Heaven's Edge, Babylon A.D., etc. Sure, it's as disposable as the cardboard stick that's left behind after you eat a Tootsie Pop, but that doesn't mean it's not totally enjoyable in the moment. Consider this one ear-candy that's good for your hard rockin' soul.

From: titothetitan Date: January 13, 2020 at 19:16
kick-ass hard rock album, with a lot of energy and big choruse. But the only thing that annoys me a bit is the drum sound.
