|Great writing, great singing but suffers from over-polished, squeaky clean, mid-80s production. Guitars could be more in-your-face. 'When Seconds Count' sounds like seconds at the Vital Signs cafe, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, seeing as Vital Signs was one of the best AOR CDs ever made, IMO. Having said that, this album contains some of the best ballads Survivor ever wrote. If you like this CD, do yourself a favor and check out King Kobra's 'Thrill of a Lifetime'. Same year, same vibe.

| After listening to this album,with no shadow of a doubt I can put it among the most melodic AOR material I've ever listened to.This is Jimi's second Survivor's album!We can cleary see his strong emotional singnature singing.Some colorfull sparkling keyboards like never seen on any of this band's albums!Anthemic strong guitars from Frakie Sullivan!Drums toghether with bass lay a simple backbeat perfect for what can be called as the Survivor's sound!90 out of 100

|'Man Against the World' is one of my favorite songs of all time. The lyrics and epic way in which the song culminates got me few through a few dark times in the late 1980s... killer song!

|Hey Dan, you're right!! 'Vital signs','When seconds count' and'Too hot to sleep' are FOREVER classics. Try 'Michael Z'!

|This one is kind of a carbon copy of the last album, in fact 'Is This Love' seems a little too close to 'High On You', but both are great tunes. 'How Much Love' would have to be my favorite on here. If 'Burning Heart' was included here, the rating would have been higher. 8/10

|I listened to this one again yesterday, and although I know I just about prefer 'Vital Signs' there really isn't even the hint of a filler track on here. And 'V.S' doesn't have 'Man Against the World' or 'Rebel Son' on it, 2 of my all-time Survivor faves. Arguably the second-half of this isn't quite as strong, but I still love it as much today as when I first heard it. If 'Vital Signs' is a 10/10, then this is about 9.8/10.

|Hey Tim (2) - I also listened to this one yesterday, just to hear what all the fuss is about. And okay, I admit as far as very soft AOR goes, I do think it is quite a good CD. Not a personal fave, but I can see how the 'pure' AOR lovers dig this one. Great songs, I just don't really dig the ultra weak drum sound and abundance of keyboards personally. Still, great songs.

|1986 is really a paradise year for pure AOR fans where many sweet keyboard-driven albums were released at that times. Even bands like Quiet Riot, Judas Priest, Twisted Sister and Iron Maiden wrote songs that had 'sense of sweetness' arround that era. Survivor was one of those great scene heroes. This album brings back my teenage memories. Same as Andre Tekken, Ocean and Is This Love are my faves. Is This Love got a very catchy keyboard intro and reffrain, something we'll never hear on the latest

|I have to agree with Dan about man against the world.The lyrics are superb and are truly inspirational.When things go horribly wrong and you feel totally out of it this is like a one man's battle song.Rebel son,in good faith,how much love,is this love and can't let you go are great songs.This album and too hot to sleep are my favourite Survivor cds.

|Another masterpiece from this great band !
||Date: February 25, 2005 at 6:40|
|This one is indeed a huge AOR album by one of the legends of the genre in my opinion. You'll find Jimmy Hoffa before you find a bad song on this album, but certain ones stand out for me. Tracks like 'Keep It Right Here', 'Is This Love' (classic), 'Rebel Son', and 'Backstreet Love Affair' have Survivor's signature stamped all over them. Such a good AOR band, and such a great album. Not much else to say, except buy if you haven't already!!

|MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!This is the first word that i can think about this album.To choose between this one and 'vital signs' is a very hard decision.AORish production,J.JAMISON at his best and the mighty songwriting duet (JIM&FRANKIE) in great form.Need i say more?Here you can find 'rebel son',probaly their best song!Also 'oceans' a'la 'the moment of truth'(karate kid soundtrack),'man against the world' and 'backstreet love affair' are essential.

|Excellent follow up to 'Vital Signs'. This is another fantastic release by Survivor. Not a single bad or mediocore song here. All the songs are incredible.The duo Jim/Frankie were in a great shape while they were writing this and the previous album!Jimi is just wonderful! Survivor has released so many great albums that is hard to tell: 'I prefer this over that'!I'm waiting for the new album of the band... too bad that Jim is not with Survivor anymore. But I have faith on Jimi and Frankie...

|For a band under the pressure of recording another classic after 'Vital signs' they really did an excellent job. 'How much love', 'Is this love' and 'Oceans' (not to be found on their greatest hits release) make this one even better for me than the previous album (but that's a tough decision). Watch out for the volcano release, it holds 'Burning heart' as a bonus track!

|This is an excellent release!! One of the greatest AOR cd's there is. Arc Angel, Aviator, Touch and this is pure bliss! Anybody who makes fun wouldnt know good music if it came up and bit them on the balls! 10/10

|Muy buen disco, practicamente ninguna es mala, lo que si no me gusta mucho es el sonido de guitarra. Is This Love mi favorita. Que tiene que ver RATT con Survivor?.
||Date: October 21, 2006 at 18:27|
|'Man Against The World' and 'Rebel Son' are better than any of the songs on their previous album, which is without a doubt a masterpiece, but this album is not as great overall as 'Vital Signs'. But it's still very good. I also would like to add that even though 'Man Against The World' is a GREAT ballad, it doesn't come close to Jimi Jamison's version of 'Ever Since The World Began' from the movie 'Lock Up'. Jimi Jamison's best vocal performance and one of the best songs ever, but very rare.

|What a fantastic Masterpiece of a AOR Album! 100% Melodic, 100 0.000000eelings, 300% Survivor! Their best Album! Buy or Die!

|I can't work out why most seem to rate 'Vital Signs' over this. 'When Seconds Count' really is a touch more melodic (although only marginally.) For sure, if this contained the Rocky IV #1 hit 'Burning Heart' (released as a single at exactly the same time)- this may have even overshot Harem Scarem as the highset-rated AOR album to date.

|Undoubtebly one of the band's best moments came in the shape of this superb album...packed with great songs led by the fantastic "Is This Love" that has become a hymn of the band nowadays...add to that these great tracks "How Much Love","Man Against The World"(beautiful),"Rebel Son","Oceans" & "Backstreet Love Affair"...Jimi now established as totally the "frontman" of the band...great effort in here guys!!!...92/100
||Date: May 6, 2015 at 1:19|
|"Backstreet Love Affair" is awesome!... What a great follow up album... This could easy be labeled Vital Signs II.
||Date: August 23, 2018 at 9:03|
|Excellent follow-up to their masterpiece 'Vital Signs'. Outstanding vocals and keyboards. My favourites are 'How Much Love', 'Is This Love', and the beautiful ballad 'Man Against the World'.
||Date: August 28, 2018 at 14:14|
|'Burning Heart' would be displaced in this album.
||Date: March 29, 2020 at 12:58|
|More keys-orientated than Vital signs, and overall songs of slightly lesser quality, but still a very good aor-album. A good addition to their music catalogue.
