The best British A.O.R.cd ever released - end of story. Up there with the Journeys of this world

From: Shoemaker Date: September 2, 2002 at 5:43
I agree

From: Andre Tekken Date: November 9, 2002 at 10:56
I also have to say this one is a bit less emotional than their nexy effort, also less athmospheric.Iteresting on this is if you compare Terry Brock's delivered vocals to the next one to the next one you'll notice a evident upgrade and change to a grittier, high pitched approach!

From: robert Date: November 10, 2002 at 9:04

From: Gabi Date: December 23, 2002 at 13:36

From: freddy de keyze Date: January 16, 2003 at 9:07
This is killer AOR ! And Terry Brock is one hell of a singer. He stands up there amongst the best of 'em. A bloody shame this band didn't get the success they deserved. Their later releases were very different and bad. But the first three records are essential for every AOR fan. A MUST !

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 21, 2003 at 17:04
YEP!THE SCOTTS SHOULD BE PROUD OF TWO THINGS.......THEIR WHYSKEY AND OF COURSE STRANGEWAYS.....JESUS CHRIST!!.....WHAT AN ALBUM!!!!!.

From: ANDY Date: February 25, 2003 at 19:25
Each and every song would be a stand out on any other album! ESSENTIAL

From: George Vader Date: June 30, 2003 at 2:40
I agree, the best British Aor Lp ever (I'm pretty sure Scotland Is in the UK, it was the last time I looked) Alongside RAISED ON RADIO and WITNESS, this is the defining record of the genre!!!

From: nigel c Date: November 3, 2003 at 16:35
totally awsome album, saw them live at sheffield and they were awsome

From: aormilwaukee Date: November 8, 2003 at 11:13
GREAT album!!! A MASTERPIECE!!! I KEEP PLAYING IT ON MY STEREO OVER AND OVER SINCE IT FIRST CAME OUT AND I DON'T GET SICK OF IT.... ONE OF MY FAV...i have a question for the owner: Why isn't Richard Marx part of heavyharmonies as well as other aorbands like bridge 2 far etc..., is it because it's too good to be known for all of the aor fans? or is it because you don't like it? the truth is that he deserves a spot on 'hh' and he is one of the most talented aor composer ever!!! check it out!!!

From: DAVIDE Date: November 16, 2003 at 6:56

From: AOR freaky Date: December 1, 2003 at 4:28
If we talk about great AOR, we may not forget this band ! Class !!! I could also have taken their next record ! Both are great, even fantastic AOR gems !!! Terry Brock has a fantastic voice ! Great band this was ! Only a shame they blew it with their latest releases !

From: bateman Date: May 10, 2004 at 9:24
This is probably the best Scottish (and British) AOR band of the 80's, so if you like great vocals, big choruses and crystal clear production go out and get it at any costs! It's quite a shame those guys never got the attention they needed - because this album (and the follow-up) are what AOR music is all about!

From: rocketron Date: July 21, 2004 at 18:46
This and the follow-up 'Walk In The Fire' the 2 best AOR albums ever by a UK band.Only FM (first 2 albums) and Heartland debut come close.

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: September 14, 2004 at 3:29
OTRA ROTUNDA OBRA MAESTRA DEL MEJOR GRUPO DE LA HISTORIA, UN Terry Brock QUE LA ROMPE, PERO CON Tonny Liddel SALIO EL MEJOR ALBUM, NO DIGO NADA MAS.

From: Geoff Date: September 18, 2004 at 23:46
A lot of fillers here, and very lite, but still a good AOR release. 'Only a fool' is a melodic gem, and 'Where do we go from here' is a killer rocker. Overall, another good album of quality AOR.

From: Date: October 26, 2004 at 15:12
Geoff , a lot of fillers ????? Are you nutts?

From: Richard-G Date: January 11, 2005 at 19:12
Native sons is the best album here by far. When released the band were hailed as the new Journey, and rightly so. Produced by Kevin Elson of Journey fame. Do yourselves a favour and get this album, or better still go onto the Hangdog records website and order their 'Greatest Bits ' cd, it is superb. Originally from Balfron in Scotland, they were originally called 'China White', with lead singer Steve Doherty who went on to form Zero Zero. An AOR must have.

BUY!!

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: February 11, 2005 at 21:25
COMPREN O MUERAN, ESTAN ANTE EL MEJOR GRUPO DE AOR Y ROCK MELODICO QUE JAMAS SERA IGUALADO. SU TERCER MEJOR TRABAJO. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: February 11, 2005 at 21:26
LA MUSICA DE ESTE GRUPO LA PUEDEN ESCUCHAR TODOS LOS DIAS, TODA SU VIDA Y JAMAS SE CANSARAN, SIMPLEMENTE LO MEJOR PARA LOS MEJORES.

From: Swriter Date: February 12, 2005 at 23:54
One of the top vocalists in the last 20 years among the greats!!!! This is some very good melodic stuff, and how they did not get airplay in the U.S. is a mystery, a definite classic and the best Strangeways!!!

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: April 3, 2005 at 1:14
Thousand od comments, of course, well that's pleasant. This one stands up with their third effort(Walk in the Fire)wich is timeless!! I'm going to have to agree with Rafo Phoenix comparison: listening it everyday every hour and yet you cannot get any bit tired of it. Strangeways pleases you in a sweet unmeasurable way, essential.

From: SCANDI Date: July 28, 2005 at 14:49
What a brilliant definition of AOR!! '..pleases you in a sweet unmeasurable way..', I like that very much. If I think about it, I even prefer this one: AOR pleases you in a sweet unobtrusive way.

From: player68 Date: August 31, 2005 at 16:20
For me greatest AOR album ever! Incredible ballad 'Goodnight L.A.' and great Terry's vocals. One word - beauty

From: SCANDI Date: February 18, 2006 at 14:29
For my taste 'Walk in the fire' is the better one. Of course, this is as well a 'must-have' release for collectors but they really developed towards their next step. While 'Dance with somebody', 'Stand up and shout' or 'Never going to lose it' already sounds like that powerful MR of the following album (which are my favourites btw.), the ballads sound more like pop with guitars than real rock ballads. Though, 'Goodnight L.A.' is a quite good one and I don't mean the others are bad. 8/10

From: HaremScarem Date: April 6, 2006 at 21:55
GRAN OBRA MAESTRA DEL AOR. NO LLEGA HASTA TAN ALTO COMO EL 'Walk in the fire', PERO SE QUEDA BASTANTE CERCA. TEMAZOS IMPRESIONANTES COMO 'Good night L.A.', 'Empty streets', 'So far away' o 'Only a fool'. AOR MASTERPIECE 9,75/10

From: AUGUSTO Date: April 25, 2006 at 23:25
CREO QUE NO ES NECESARIO AGREGAR MAS, TODO ESTA DICHO ARRIBA, SI TE GUSTA EL AOR, LOS TRES PRIMEROS CDS DE ESTA BANDA SON OBLIGADOS, TODA LA MAGIA DE LA EPOCA , SIN PALABRAS, CALIDAD, MELODIAS, TODO LOQUE HAY QUE TENER PARA UN AOR 10/10

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: June 1, 2006 at 4:05
Wow Extraordinaria la nueva reedicion por parte de Majestic Rock mucho mejor que esta de Hangdog y con 4 bonus en vivo Stand Up and Shout y Breakin' Down The Barriers en el Hammersmith Odeon Londres 1987, Dance With Somebody y Never Going to Lose It en Frankfurt Alemania 1987, estos bonus no estan limpios del todo pero aquellos que no tienen nada de ellos llegaran al cielo del AOR con la nueva reedicion de este y el siguiente disco y mejor con estos 4 bonus.

From: DANTE Date: June 26, 2006 at 5:06

From: Carlos A. Date: July 6, 2006 at 10:55
Simplemente Grandioso Melodic Rock!!! para la historia 'Only a Fool', 'Where Do We Go From Here','Never Going to Lose It','Face to Face'... dejan sin aliento.

From: DANTE Date: July 18, 2006 at 12:46
ONLY THE FOOL ES QUIZÁ UNA DE LAS MEJORES CANCIONES DE LA HISTORIA DEL AOR. TERRY BROCK, DÓNDE COJONES METISTE ESA ESTUPENDA VOZ...

From: SexGunLover Date: August 14, 2006 at 14:30

From: Aorforever Date: September 28, 2006 at 5:59
FANTASTIC!!! 'so far away' is a beautifull BALLAD! Great AOR songs! The first Slamer album is also beautifull, Terry Brock vocals.

From: juan carlos Date: December 4, 2006 at 12:41
PURO AOR. 9.8/10

From: Carlos A. Date: December 8, 2006 at 12:40
'So Far Away' & 'Good Nigth L.A' sencillamente baladas hipnoticas...

From: sanxdowntherainbow Date: December 12, 2006 at 12:50
WOW! This is HUGE AOR! Very polished and on top quality!! The singer reminds me a lot of Steve Perry! This one should be in your collection! Only a fool, So far away and stand up and shout are my favs. IF find it...BUY IT!!!

From: roxas Date: January 1, 2007 at 4:46
As the World spins around the Sun for the 4 Billionth, 501 Millionth time and it's current dominant species goes crazy, I'm reminded of the ballad 'Goodnight LA'. Faded magazine pages may represent the current state of the World but still no place I'd rather be. The girl on the billboard, Anna even still calls my name...only the ball should bounce she say's. As the champagne influences my thoughts I make the proud claim, if it wasn't for the golden throat of Terry brock I'd be dead...

From: coverdale14 Date: March 20, 2007 at 13:57
ESTE SI ES DE LO MEJOR QUE SE HA ELABORADO EN LA HISTORIA DEL AOR,ONLY A FOOL ESTO DEBERIA SER UN HIMNO AL AOR, SO FAR AWAY QUE ALTOS LOGRA EL SEÑOR TERRY BROCK, GOODNIGT L.A. HERMOSA,STAN UP AND SHOUT UN POCO EN UN AOR MAS ROCKERO, Y TERMINA CON LA ESPECTACULAR FACE TO FACE.10/10. LONG LIVE HARD-AOR.

From: metalizzer Date: March 31, 2007 at 14:42
my friends! anyone that says that this is the best AOR album ever, does´nt has ears! this is good but it´s very Journey , it´s a good Journey album if they made it! were i want to get is they´re next album! that yes, is, one of the best AOR albuns ever! and if you hear it you will say: this is Strangeways!.... get it? i´m talking about beeing original!(a dificult task sometimes in AOR/Hard rock bands)!

From: Shogun01 Date: April 24, 2007 at 8:00
Quite simply the best Uk/Scottish AOR Band in their day. The first three CDs are the best. I was lucky enough to see them live in Glasgow, at the Royal Concert Hall, and they were awesome. So many good tracks here its hard to pick out which ones are the best. AOR Must have. 10/10.

From: josegolem Date: June 6, 2007 at 19:31

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: August 3, 2007 at 21:35

From: george_the_jack Date: September 1, 2007 at 8:27
Gorgeous AOR with quality songs and an unbelievable crystalline production...A must have for everyone who loves this music

From: Metzi Date: October 2, 2007 at 7:32
Top notch quality!

From: darobinson Date: February 17, 2008 at 18:38
This disc is fantastic!! A must have for all AOR fans.

From: DanDare Date: August 23, 2008 at 18:05
In my humble opinion this is one of five essential AOR purchaes. If you have stumbled across this site and don't know anything about this type of music seek out this CD. You won't regret it. Terry Brocks voice is at it's peak on the CD and Goodnight LA is one of the best AOR tracks ever written and performed. End of... 100/100

From: hair metal again Date: July 29, 2009 at 2:00
this is beautifulevery tune goes straight to your heart, its fantastic.this kind of music has a sensuality you cant resist.strangeways is a huge band.please inform me if journey ever released a better album or if they achieved that quality in their sound.and of course there s no need to put strangeways near to the below average bands of the ourdays.come on admit it and if you re lucky enuff you ll get 'face to face'with strangeways

From: BICHOAOR Date: April 23, 2010 at 0:54
One of the best aor bands of all time, Mr. Terry Brock and his beautifl voice put the cherry on this record. Every tune is fantastic. This album is in the same level of great classics, like raised on radio (Journey) or Vital Signs (Survivor, excelent year in music was 1987. 100/100 A Must Buy.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: June 28, 2010 at 15:16
Terry Brock came to rule!!!..even though i have always respected Tony Liddell's job in the band's debut album but Terry was the man for this act 4 sure!..great vocalist that combines passion and energy when and where needed to give the songs that 'special' touch..about the tracks, just classics of the genre...from the magnificent 'Where Do We Go From Here' to mega ballads such as 'Goodnight L.A.'..an album that is enjoyable from head to toe...highly recommended and a must to AOR fans all over the world...100/100..

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: July 1, 2010 at 15:55

AOR doesn't get any better than this. This one of those albums you can listen to on repeat.

From: titothetitan Date: November 30, 2017 at 8:06
Very pleasant AOR album.

From: titothetitan Date: October 11, 2019 at 18:22
A superior album than the first one (which was already damn good). Terry Brock definetly was the missing ingredient. Prodution is way better and all the songs are great. No fillers at all. A re-release edtion contains x4 live songs. I have a Dvd bootleg titled 'Live in Germany 1988'.

From: Thomas/Coastline Date: March 30, 2021 at 17:46
The Scottish AOR band Strangeways was formed by brothers Ian (guitar) and David Stewart (bass) in the mid 80’s and together with musician friends Jim Drummond (drums), Alan Thomson (keyboards) and Tony Liddell (vocals), they released a self-titled debut album in 1985. Except for being well-received with several good reviews it didn’t really make that much of an impact and legendary producer Kevin Elson (Journey, Europe etc.) suggested a new singer in session-vocalist Terry Brock from Atlanta, U.S.A. He joined the band in time for the superb “Native Sons” release, which was recorded at Powerplay Studios in Switzerland, very well-produced by John Punter and released in 1987 on RCA records. This second effort is a true genre classic and it features a bunch of great songs such as Hi-Tech opener “Dance With Somebody”, the calmer and Journey-like “Only A Fool” / “So Far Away”, uptempo rocker “Where Do We Go From Here” and beautiful power ballad “Goodnight L.A.”. Side two is somewhat weaker b

From: Thomas/Coastline Date: March 30, 2021 at 17:48
Side two is somewhat weaker but there are standout tracks like the excellent “Empty Streets”, where Brock reminds a bit of Jimi Jamison and “Shake The Seven”, which places the band in Nightranger territory. The atmospheric and melodic “Face To Face” rounds of this highly rated and much respected album. 9/10
