Heavy Harmonies Review | |

This one is... well... "different." One of its biggest strengths is also one of its biggest weaknesses: it is an incredibly musically diverse effort, incorporating a myriad of musical styles. By the same token, it comes off as somewhat disjointed; it's hard to tell which way the band is wanting to go. While being based fundamentally upon AOR and hard rock, there are some hip-hop elements, the occasional quasi-industrial voice muting, to semi-prog influences. It's extremely ambitious, and while it definitely holds my attention, from time to time I find myself cocking my head wondering "Huh? Wha? Why?". The performances are tight musically, and I have no complaints with the production. There are plenty of hooks and melodies throughout, but they sometimes clash. Musically this disc is quite "unpredictable" (which, depending on your tastes, may be more of a plus than a minus, especially if you're a fan of prog music). Standout tracks for me are the title track and their cover of Blind Faith's Can't Find My Way Home (which absolutely rules!). If I'm sounding wishy-washy about this disc, it's because there elements I really like, but others I can't stand. It's a disc "I really *want* to like." This band doesn't know if it wants to be an AOR band or a prog band. Once they decide which way they want to go, I think they'll have a large following regardless... Rating: 74/100 |

Great album indeed...miles better than their debut "Burned Down" release...tracks 1,2,3,4(sounds Saga influenced),7(nice),9,10(another one that sounds like a Saga song)& 13(very good cover of Steppen Wolf's classic) are my faves...recommended...90/100 |
