Kansas has a ton of good stuff.I feel this cd was overlooked a bit.Fight Fire with Fire is my fav Kansas song, and I really like everybodys my friend. All and all a good cd to have

"Drastic Measures" is a likeable enough CD & "Fight Fire With Fire" is an irresistably good rocker. By now, there's nothing progressive about these guys apart from some cockadoodle-doo-doo in the middle of "Mainstream". If you like Kansas the prog rock band, you'll probably get a bazooka of your own (like that middle musician on the cover) & use this for target practice. If you don't mind the streamlined AOR approach, songs like "Incident on a Bridge" & "End of the Age" are yours to enjoy.

This is my favorite Kansas album. 'Everybody's My Friend' is a classic and its omission on the best of is criminal. I liked Kansas' early stuff too, but I listen to this one much more often. Maybe BECAUSE it wasn't as overplayed? I dunno. But this stuff is great. 'Going thru the motions'...'Andi'...'Fight fire with fire'..etc. I would have liked another album with this lineup.

The less interesting record of Kansas. Some songs are good but for me this album is only for the real fans. I find the other Kansas albums (far) better than this one.

From: Rockhead Date: July 9, 2004 at 13:50
I love this pop rock approach and in Fight Fire they have a melodic rock monster. Tracks 1,2 4,5 and 9 all do it for me.

From: AOR freaky Date: July 9, 2004 at 13:56
Pop rock, dear Rockhead ? This is the finest Kansas album and one of their heaviest ! Do we talking about the same record here ? This is great stuff ! It's less prog, but more AOR orientated. But pop rock ? ! Hmm. . ., not so !

From: Rockhead Date: July 9, 2004 at 13:58
It does sound poppy-Everybody's my friend and Andi in particular. Fight Fire Rocks, but compared with some of the heavier AOR acts this does sound poppy (Heavy maybe for Kansas but not a genre. This is however one of my favourite Kansas albums.

From: Rockhead Date: July 9, 2004 at 13:59
Maybe it is the keyboard sound

From: AOR freaky Date: July 9, 2004 at 14:07
I have the impression that a lot of people still don't know the difference between AOR and melodic (hard)rock ! A lot of bands are described as AOR, but in fact they are melodic hardrock ! This is not an insult, but let's put things right. Dokken is not AOR, but melodic rock. Foreingner and Journey are AOR etc. I know it's not easy and everyone may have his/her opinion, but there is a real difference. Maybe you can describe it better, Rockhead ? Or Koogles or . . . ?

An incredible album. "Fight Fire With Fire" is my all time favourite. "Everybody's My Friend" is also great, full of happy major chords and sounds possitive. Listen to "Andi", what a nice AOR song, it has unique chords in the verse part but then turns so sweet in the reffrain. I have also one great song (on cassette) titled "Perfect Lover" that was not included in their albums. Does anybody know where should I find that song in CD ?

From: Chris Date: September 4, 2004 at 15:14
The song 'Perfect Lover' is included on the album 'Best Of Kansas' released around 84 and is available on cd. Hope this helps.. (Great song by the way). Chris.

From: AOR freaky Date: September 5, 2004 at 8:07
I'm with you on this one BWH'Indonesia' ! Great album, maybe their best and the song 'Fight Fire With Fire' is indeed one hell of a song ! SUPERB !!

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: September 7, 2004 at 9:04
Thank you Chris, thank you AOR freaky.

From: Date: December 18, 2004 at 11:35
Is fight fire with fire the same song which is included Steelhouse Lane's first album?

From: Remastered Reason Date: January 21, 2006 at 1:13
Even more steadfast into the AOR direction. A person could never tell it was the same band if this record & "Song For America" were played back to back. Even Steve Walsh's vocals wouldn't give it away. Stunning!!!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: May 18, 2007 at 22:56
This album is resumed in one song..."Fight Fire With Fire"...timeless!.

From: metalmastermusic Date: July 7, 2008 at 8:10
I agree with the comments on thsi being prog rock ?? Where is that coming from ? Hmm Dream Theater and Kansas just don't see it...Anyway this is another must have album and I am a hard rocker so for me to say that this has to be good. Fight Fire With Fire is an instant classic. My other faves include Everybody's My Friend, Andi and Don't Take Your Love Away. Another great disc by this super group of the past. To bad they had Livgren and Elfante leave, they were the heart and soul of this group. 95/100

"Fight Fire With Fire" is one of the best AOR songs Kansas has ever written,as simple as that..."Everybody's My Friend","Mainstream" & "Incident On A Bridge" are also other good ones in here...Kansas is a band that knew how to mix Prog Rock & AOR in a sophisticated way...nowadays they have returned to their Prog roots, the one we know...82/100

From: Doug Date: January 28, 2015 at 18:59
This album is tremendous and at the time John Elefante had to overcome the "aura" of Steve Walsh. We all now see and hear the greatness of Elefante's voice. "Andi" is the fantastic sleeper track in my opinion.
