A good band with good music..that got shafted when in the early 90's MTV decided to play nothing but rap and grunge music..but now that the 90's are over and grunge is dead..it's time to ROCK again..Get Loud Get Proud SLAUGHTER FANS...

From: jonnathan Date: June 13, 2001 at 0:01
this is a good album . and 11 years later there still here where is soundgarden and nirvana?

From: T-BONE Date: August 30, 2001 at 14:34
Good cd. I saw them open for Kiss on the Hot in the Shade tour. Great live band. Mark has a great voice and Tim Kelly's guitar sang. We'll miss him! This cd was one of the biggest releases in hard rock in 1990. Great for any collection.

From: fetish_lord Date: September 1, 2001 at 9:52

Excellent metal disc. Essential for any fan of 80's style metal. From 'Up All Night' to 'Spend My Life' to 'Fly to the Angels' this CD has it all. Hard rock, pop metal and the essential power ballad. Highly recommended!!!

Hey hey hey!!! This is simply awesome. Superb sleazeglam with a interesting vocal twist from Mark Slaughter

From: Luis Date: September 30, 2001 at 0:29
Great power ballads

From: Chris Date: December 27, 2001 at 23:44
After I heard this album, I became a Slaughter fan for life. Some great stuff on here. I'd rather listen to this, than Nirvana's Nevermind at any given time. Pure hard rock and lots of FUN!

From: dokken6008 Date: March 21, 2002 at 12:46
I never viewed--& still don't--Slaughter as a sleazy/sleaze glam band. To me they sound more like hard rock w/ a touch of the pop or glam element in their music; I think that they were quite a bit different than your average pop metal band of the early 90's. Mark Slaughter's vocals are definitely unique & are instantly recognisable to any who have heard him. The bottom line: I still think that 'Stick It To Ya' was Slaughter at its best. An all-around fun but unique experience.

From: Harvey Date: March 24, 2002 at 20:13
Dumb and Dumber 2; starring Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum. Friend of a friend supported these guys on a tour and they were, alledgedly, the most abnoxious bunch of Tossers he had ever met. He took the 'S' off there dressing room door to spell 'Laughter' and they were, apparently, not amused. Brainless music. Little wonder Nivarna sold a few records.

From: TIM Date: May 25, 2002 at 23:46
I actually met these guys and they're really nice. It was 110 degrees out that day and my shirt was soaked with sweat but they still signed it. Mark's singing is excellent and I like the way Blas plays the drums. Nirvana couldn't match up to these guys on their best day.

From: RichieRocker Date: May 31, 2002 at 21:41
I love this cd its awesome. I met the band and they are very cool people. Who doesnt love Up All Night and all the cool songs on this album. these guys rock pure and simple. Nothing trendy or fake just kick ass rock music. BUY THE WAY, I ENJOY READING OTHER PEOPLES COMMENTS AND WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY, ABOUT OTHER BANDS AND WHAT NOT. Keep rockin everybody this is a cool site.

From: RichieRocker Date: June 6, 2002 at 16:14
these guys kick ass, live and in the studio. I met these guys after the show and they were very cool. This album is awesome, top to bottom, Happy b-day Cam Neely. go B's

I love every song on this cd, and every song on the follow-up, and every song on all their other cd's too, I like the hard rock return with back to reality, and I like the tribute work Mark Slaughter has done, I think I have all of his stuff except his first band 'Xcursion'.

From: Drag-in-Bones Date: July 21, 2002 at 14:19
300,000 albums in the first two months of its existence. There is a hidden message at the end of the song 'Fly To The Angels', anyone know what it is???

From: Pete Palace Date: July 27, 2002 at 19:06
Yes, I know exactly what it is Drag-in-Bones, never castrate yourself with a cheese-grater while singing. He could've gone the less painful route and sang falseto, better yet he should'nt have opened his mouth in the first place. Maybe next time Mark will leave Blas' cock in his mouth and continue sucking than singing! Oh, by the way, there's A REAL METAL BAND called Slaughter who would probably love to meet with these flammers 'Eye to Eye' with a 'Loaded Gun' for having the same name.

Ah!This record brings me memories!Of the short, fragile, classy, pomp and talented of the heavy rock scene of the early nineties! This band is wonderfully produced!High pich, sharp razor edged vocals, very hard hitting drums and good rocki'n guitar!I may describe this group saying that they have this rocki'n soud alltoghether with sophisticaded small malodic parts inbetweeen the music! What makes this band more interesting than average rock bands!

What is been left to be said,is that I also don't think this is a glam so far sleeze act! It's pure hard rock a small bit 'Kiss' like on the big chorus! The first time I saw Up all Night on dial MTV It blew me away! What an attitude, charm and essence!I personally don't like their next records.I think they did't anchieve the same atmosphere this debut did!Great cover mixed this gypsy, gothic kinda look toghether with band of the begining of the last decade!

From: Baris Date: September 16, 2002 at 4:57
Without doubt this one is Slaughter's best. Released in the climax-days of hair-rock, it already became a classic. Normally a particular sleazy-glam continuation of Vinnie Vincent's 'All Sytems Go' is felt in this album but pure hard-rock elements also take place. Another brilliant aspect here is Tim Kelly's successful play. I'm sure if there was no upcoming grunge assault and the frustration it caused in hard-rock arena, bands such as Slaughter could achieve more successful follow-ups later.

I'm glad these guys are still kickin',I wish more bands that started out in the early 90's that sounded like Slaughter aka Firehouse,Skid Row,Jackyl,Black Crowes,Damn Yankees, would reunite and help take back MTV from the Rap alternative nazis who force their crap upon the masses, they have brainwashed many..with fools like Eminem, but the fans of Rock,Hard Rock and Metal shall in the end take back what is theirs and that is MTV. Rap go to the BET channel,Alternative go to Vh1 METAL4MTV

From: Gar Date: March 8, 2003 at 4:59
By my count, they were the 3rd band to record under the name SLAUGHTER. A previous post mentions a thrash metal band, but there was also a UK punk band called SLAUGHTER in the early 80's. 3 different bands... 3 different styles of music.

From: TIM Date: March 8, 2003 at 5:58
If you think those are used a lot, check Fortune and Destiny.

From: steve Date: April 16, 2003 at 18:05

Capitol Records is re-releasing the first 2 Vinnie Vincent Invasion and first 2 Slaughter albums with new linear notes by Dana Strum and bonus tracks. They'll be out June 24th, 2003

From: SPOTLIGHT Date: May 27, 2003 at 5:39
With the release of this album, Slaughter came into the music world the same way that Kurt Cobain left it...WITH A BANG! It was an instant classic that has stood the test of time. This is the album that will still be good when you pass it on to your grandchildren! (creeper@sunlink.net)

From: tomcat Date: May 27, 2003 at 9:41
i love this album..there are some fillers on it (like all their discs) but also some serious killers

From: Harvey Date: August 19, 2003 at 14:13
Sorry but this band were and are laughable. They have not even a hint of talent but, I suppose there is a positive message here...no matter how clueless U are, there is always a chance you'll make it! Please, by Queensryche's Operation:Mindcrime instead!...Up All Night Sleep All Day? Come on guys, I understand the need for party msuic but this is a joke. If U wanns hear good party music then buy AC/DCs Back In Black.

From: visitor Date: August 24, 2003 at 14:15
Hey Harvey, to each his own, right? Just because you don´t happen to like this band, there are lots of us who do. About talent - well, I´ve heard a lot, I mean LOT, worse attempts than this. Nothing wrong in their playing, maybe not the most original songwriters but hey - there are a thousand bands like this that never made it to get any wider attention. These guys did, so there must something about it. Although I agree with you - AC/DC is totally a different league.

Met Mark & Dana At an autograph signing in New Jersey, Cool down to earth guys!

From: Dean Date: February 1, 2004 at 16:53
Yeah-I'm sure the guys in Sister Whiskey thought Dana was really cool and down to earth too-until he ripped them off so blind their heads are still spinning years later.

10 singers better than Mark Slaughter : Terry Ilous,Don Dokken,David Coverdale,Rob Halford,Geoff Tate,John Arch,Messiah Marcolin,Russ Anderson,Ronnie James Dio,and Barney The Dinosaur. Sorry,i didn't have the room to post 110 .

From: Fat Freddy Date: February 4, 2004 at 18:45
Never really saw what all the hoop-de-doo was about these guys. They had one or two good songs but that was about it in my book. Mark was NOT a great singer, sorry. Saw them open for Kiss in 1990 and thought they were merely OK, Mark's voice was even more nasal and piercingly annoying live than on record. I finally figured out why they were so popular at the time when the girl I attended the show with leaned over and said to me, 'The drummer's hot, but they can't play.' Mystery solved.

From: Christine Date: February 4, 2004 at 20:23
Freddy, I usually agree with your comments, but we're on opposite ends on this one! I can't even count how many times I've seen Slaughter and they put on a great live show, not to mention their music has been pretty consistent over the years - they haven't tried to 'update' their sound. I agree that they didn't sound great on the Kiss tour, but then again, Gene likes it that way...

From: Fat Freddy Date: February 5, 2004 at 12:19
Sorry, Christine, but I calls'em as I sees'em. Can't please everybody.

Who is the model on this cover?

From: Metal T Date: February 24, 2004 at 21:23
Hey Metlhed, I think her name is Laurie Carr'--an ex-playmate and former wife of the late Ratt' guitarist Robbin Crosby (RIP).

From: Blaine Date: March 31, 2004 at 13:42
Since this CD came out in 1990 it still gets played on my CD player. Every track is just awesome. Mark Slaughter has a great voice and Slaughter deserved to go much further in their career. Too bad Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc didn't have Slaughter's TALENT!!! What was MTV thinking when it signed that grungy crap, that it was here to stay? Think not! MTV should be embarrassed in the face. Same goes to MuchMusic. Grunge SUCKED big time!!!

From: run2u Date: April 13, 2004 at 7:45

Mark Slaughter has a great voice? Oh well, to each their own, but to me he sounds like a cat being choked. Ok, not that bad, but still a singer who is tough to adjust to and his vocals sometimes ruin the songs (Fly To The Angels), but then on songs like 'Burnin' Bridges' his voice really helps the track. A strong first half and a weak second half. 5/10

From: Lucas Date: August 2, 2004 at 16:36
Esta nueva edición incluye 4 versiones demo de: “Mad About You”, “She Wants More”, “Up All Night” (esta versión me resulta bien simpática) y “Fly To The Angels” mas acústico,

From: Lucas Date: August 2, 2004 at 16:38

From: Geoff Date: September 14, 2004 at 2:33
Yeah, Mark's got an awful voice, but with commercial hard rock songs like the anthem 'Up all night' and the absolute gems that are, one after another; 'Mad About You','That's Not Enough','You Are the one' (My fave),'Gave Me Your Heart' and 'Desparately', plus the heartfelt ballad, 'Fly to the angels', the crunching 'Eye to eye', the awesome melodic rocker 'Spend my life' and 'Burnin' bridges' - basically you have one killer commercial hard rock CD! Excellent stuff, IMO!

From: jarett r. Date: October 13, 2004 at 1:07
there was also a canadian band named slaughter.

From: ptw Date: October 16, 2004 at 22:15
I heard a couple of dj's in cincinnati's webn radio that Mark is a major jerk, with either major ego &/or attitude. This was years ago.

From: run2u Date: November 1, 2004 at 18:18

From: Propane Date: December 1, 2004 at 16:49
These boys have always had raw talent, stripped it down and cranked it up while others at the time were selling out. I like this one.

From: Dave Stamos Date: May 8, 2005 at 10:39

MAN, WHAT A GREAT CD,IT CAME OUT IN MY FAVORITE YEAR, 1990. THERE WAS NO OTHER YEAR THAT EVEN CAME CLOSE TO TOPPING 1990, I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 45 CD'S FROM THAT YEAR ALONE. METAL'S BIGGEST YEAR EVER. AS FOR THE CD, THERE'S NOT A SONG ON THERE I HATE. I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL WHEN THIS DISC CAME OUT, BACK THEN EVERY FEMALE WAS A ROCKER, NOT THESE STUCK UP WHITE RAP BITCHES THAT YOU SEE NOW. R.I.P. TIM KELLY I WISH IT COULD BE 1990 ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!

From: Joshy St. Jaimz Date: October 12, 2005 at 7:54
Absolute classic in the genre. An old cliche I know, but 'All killer, no filler' comes straight to mind. Anyone of these tracks could have been picked as a single. Mark's voice is one of the best in all of rock!!

From: Remastered Reason Date: February 7, 2006 at 22:05
At the time, Slaughter was part of the last wave of big hair bands that flooded the gates before grunge. Aside from Mark Slaughter's wailing & screetching, which can be annoying at times, this disc remains memorable mostly due to video overkill by MTV in America. Still, after listening to the cd years later, it becomes apparent that this is ready-made, synthetic corporate hair rock polished to perfection.

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: August 3, 2007 at 20:13
la sentida y clasica "Fly To The Angels"; la potente y dinámica "Mad About You" es otro gran tema de Hard Rock, al igual que "That´s Not Enogh For Me" y de ahi en adelante vienen 3 temazos AOR: "You´re The One" la mejor del disco, un bellisimo medio tiempo AOR romantico; "Gave Me Your Heart" mas ritmica pero igual de melódica al igual que "Desperately" llena de gancho y melodía... en fin, un clásico del Hard Rock melódico de finales de los 80s y principios de los 90s!!

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: June 11, 2009 at 15:10
There are a few pretty cool songs on here, like "Eye To Eye," "Mad About You" and the best Def Leppard song not actually done by Def Leppard, "Desperately." "Up All Night" is a fun, summertime anthem, although very cheesy. Then there are a lot of mediocre tracks. And then some utter SHIT songs, none of them helped by Mark Slaughter's obnoxious, caterwauling voice. "Fly To The Angels?" Even back then I wasn't sure I liked it all that much. And "She Wants More" and "Loaded Gun" are two of the absolute WORST songs I've ever heard. Sorry, but this one hasn't aged well at all.

Average hard rock with a few gems. Mark Slaughter's voice is absolutely piercing and most of the album is filler but the album is still worth getting for Burning Bridges, Spend My Life, Desperately, You Are The One and You Gave Me Your Life. Fly To The Angels is a terrible ballad that seems to go on and on, Up All Night is too average and She Wants More is dreadful. This is also their best album which says a lot.

a lot of debate here about mark slaughters voice but to me i love it i think he has a really good range although i've never seen them live this is their best album for sure they're not glam just a rock band i like tim kelly's playing nothing technical but a nice sound up all night was overrated not even close to the best song here that's burning bridges but i do like eye to eye, spend my life, fly to the angels, mad about you, that's not enough, gave me your heart and desperatly i think they're a good band but not one of the great bands of the genre

People need to understand that most "Hair Bands" have talent, in this case Slaughter are very talented Musicians! GREAT debut! With songs like Spend My Life, Mad About You, You Are The One, Gave Me Your Heart, Up All Night & my favorite Desperately. I highly recommend!

OK, not necessarily related to this great album, but I just saw these guys at, of all places the Greeley (CO) Stampede. Mark is a bit ragged these days but Strum, Blando and OH MY GOD drummer Zoltan Chaney were tight. Zoltan is off the chart incredible performer and he never missed a beat. Go see them just for him!

A cool debut by Slaughter with plenty of catchy songs in it but with an issue...they sounded way to Motley Crue in some parts(which ain't bad but a band has to find its personality)...anyway "Eye To Eye" is my fave cut in here...tracks 2,6,7,8,10(AORish),11(AORish) & 12 are also in my book(i own this on vinyl so i don't have the 3 additional cuts)...88/100

You're missing nothing with the bonus tracks, Rick. The "acoustic" version of "Fly To The Angels" is just the studio version with all but one acoustic guitar and Mark's lead vocals stripped out, probably aimed at top-40 radio who maybe were hesitant to play the album mix. 'Wingin' It' is just a throwaway track, like a page off someone's musical doodle pad.

It's a pity there haven been people who deform the total rating (not only this case) with their "love or hate" attitude. It seems a bit childish and unfair.

84/100 overall seems pretty respectable to me. In American schools, that's a B. Some people will spend their review saying how an album isn't very good and still give it an 84. Full disclosure; I personally gave Stick It To Ya 66/100, which I think is fair given that I find a quarter of the songs all but unlistenable, and another few mediocre at best.

No problem to accept even 1 if it isn't a general standpoint to a particular band, style etc. But I would like to say that the range from 1 to 100 is wide enough to express that I don't like something or on the other hand an album is good. Personally, I gave 85/100 and in my country this is also "B".

Of course, the letter-grade analogy isn't perfect either, because the 66 I gave this CD is a failing grade in school, when in fact I think iit's better than an F (I'd give it a C). Plenty of wiggle rooom in that hundred-point range, especially at the low end (is a 30 really three times better than a 10?) I think a lot of people just slap on an arbirtray number that seems about right. The real story is in the actual comments.

While Vinnie Vincent Invasion had some killer songs, and no less than three nice ballads on the 1988 disc All Systems Go, that band lacked the swagger and bluesy guitar style of the great Tim Kelly (RIP). Stick it to ya has many really good songs, a few fillers do not hurt the overall result really, so I give it 95. A very nice sound with Dana's full and rich bass sound that helps drive the songs. Drummer Blas Elias was added as a member before the release in '90, but all the drum tracks on this album were programmed in '89 by Chris Ryan at KAT Electronic drums (so Blas is not on this album at all). Of course he still is a stellar drummer. Tim was truly a great guitar player, played for the songs, improved the songs with great riffs and tasty solos and a warm bluesy feel that many of us love. 4 great singles/videos were released. Btw, Laurie Ann Carr, who was married at the time to Ratt's tall & handsome Robbin Crosby (also RIP), was featured as the model on Stick It To Ya's album cove

Stick It To Ya might be the hair-metalest-sounding hair-metal album out there. First there's Dana Strum's more-is-more production, as he adds in all kinds of sound effects and bits of ear candy and just random noises absolutely everywhere, which makes it sound more like a pop album despite the heavy thud of the music. The booming drums are overpowering, and yet the performance is so rigid and lumbering—of course they were programmed. Mark Slaughter's vocals screech over-top, and he blathers like he's ad-libbing onstage. David Lee Roth was great at this; Mark just sounds like he's trying too hard. And yet he's the most distinctive thing about the band, fittingly since it bears his name. But without him—and frequently even with him—these are standard-issue hair-metal songs. But they dominated the landscape in 1990. This kind of music was fully mainstream by that point, and had lost almost all of its menace and danger. I'm reminded of Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes telling an interv

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: September 10, 2024 at 14:11
... interviewer at the time, "If you want an amusing anecdote, talk to Mark Slaughter. I'm sure he'll say something like, `Yeah, we drank a couple light beers and ran down the hall in our underwear—Whooooo!`" Kinda vicious, yeah, and at the time I thought "Who the fuck does he think he is?" But he wasn't exactly wrong either. Slaughter came off as good-looking goofballs, and they weren't singing to the people who lived the life, but to the kids at home who watched it on TV. For them, staying up all night and sleeping all day signals wild adventure. In reality, it just means you work the graveyard shift somewhere, but that's no fun to sing about. So for me, Stick It To Ya is a time capsule with some catchy choruses, but that's about it. There are people who champion Slaughter as being a lot better than they seemed on the surface, but honestly, I don't hear it.
