The new QR CD "Road Rage" has some really good songs on it (Can't Get Enough, Getaway, Freak Flag, Wasted, Still Wild, Make A Way, Renegades), and although Durbin doesn't sound like Dubrow, I think he has good voice for 80's rock. For me the only downside is the dismal production/mix, there is no separation of the instruments and the vocals are way to high so they don't have any dynamic with the music. I think with decent production "Road Rage" could have been a great CD. Overall a solid effort worth checking out. |

Welcome to ☠ PIRATE RIOT on their 7th lead singer if you have been keeping count. This release makes me stand in awe of the OR (1988) release with Paul Shortino. The current singer is some self proclaimed quasi"metal guy" from American Idol. Vocals are not fit for the band's early material, and as R Rocker's generous review points out the mix is off, along with the whole album as nothing about this album makes me think QR. Saw this band 2-3 times when they broke big, but their music hasn't aged well, and that was with the original line up. Now it's a cover band playing gigs for a bar tab with one original member left. Die hard fans might want to see a QUIET RIOT documentary 'Well Now You're Here, There's No Way Back' |

To me, the technical production of this album is what makes this a less than stellar release, not Durbin's vocals. The dude can sing, check out his debut solo album, it's actually pretty decent. I personally think he is not the right fit for this band and should concentrate on his own career. Just my two pennies... |

*Right away, lets take out the whole "This isn't Kevin DeBrow or a clone of him" out of the equation! QR has been plagued with a rotating vocalist for almost a decade now...hurting their image and reputation. Road Rage had a singer and already recorded this album, however something went totally sour, the first single was a disaster (production quality - nuff said). Brought in another vocalist, James Durbin (American Idol fame) to re-record / re-write lyrics and songs, etc. Personally, not a fan of his work...kudos for wanting to keep Hard Rock alive. But again, the production quality of this album is so bad...its obviously rushed, canned, and sloppy sounding. Surprised that Frontiers Records allowed this quality to happen for release. Foundation wise, the band is the same since "Rehab", the essences of the songs themselves are worthy enough to salvage, just the recording of the vocals + the production quality makes this album sound like a demo. HIGHLIGHTS: #1,2,4,8,9. MY RATING: 45 % |
