Another great Icon CD! Different singer than on 'Night of the Crime', this guy sounds a bit like David Coverdale. Screaming guitars, great vocals. Highly recommended!!!

Being in Canada I had to special order an import of this album and all the trouble and expense was worth every penny. This album is phenominal. The guitars are big and crunchy the songs have hooks and the drums are huge. Hard rock doesn't sound this good very often.

I've never heard the second album, but this blows the first away. The duet with Alice Cooper on 'Two for the Road' is great!

Hey WidoMakr, thanks for the advice on this one. This CD kicks ass!! You seem to know most of the bands out there but I'll throw a recommendation back at you. Check out Heaven's Edge S/T. This is by far the best CD I have ever come upon. It kicks major ass. Thanks again for the advice on this one. Later.

I saw them in NYC on this tour and they sounded AWESOME. It does indeed seem a lot of people don't like this release, and without putting any of the other discs down, I think this one stands on it's own no problem. Big guitars with powerful vox, good choruses, etc. Good stuff!

Blue Charvel.I envy u.I missed ICON in NYC.damn.I bet they were great, if you remember, did they do most of the album? saw Bent Brother this weekend in Poughkeepsie.those wondering who the F they are.they were Twisted Sister/WidowMaker.It was definitely like being back in the 80's for a few hrs.The songs rocked.the women looked great.big guns, tight pants and high heels.for a few hrs everyone forgot they were 30+ and it was 1987 again..Dee Snider is STILL the man..Quote the WidoMakr..Never More

If I remember correctly they did mostly stuff off this album, in fact that's what prompted me to buy it. Good stuff...I don't think I was even old enough to drink....sounds like you hit a good show yourself. Do they play out frequently or was it like a one-time deal?

This album was and is the epitome of stateside hard rock/heavy metal that captured equally cool elements of LA style sleaze/glam metal meets 80's style european hard rock/metal.It was through and through the closest thing as an all-American answer to Whitesnake's '1987' release. I acquired it shortly after it was released and still listen to it all the time. Jerry Harrison and Dan Wexler are the two greatest once signed and probably forever unsung guitarist/singer teams!

I'm not sure whether or not it's accessible through any available archives but knac.com did a where are they now/where did they go segment on these guys a few years back. It was very cool their keyboard player Kevin Stoller I think still plays for Stevie Nicks. I only wish I could have seen them live. They had some great songs on 'An Even More Perfect Union'. I really miss this style not being more at the forefront of the mainstream in the U.S.

I love 'Night of the Crime', but this is much better! One of the classic guitar albums to come out of the late 80s-early 90s era of hard rock. Dan Wexler is an amazing guitar player, and I still listern to this awesome disc a lot. I can't see how people say they like Icon and then rip on this CD. Too bad it's out of print-it's worth spending 20 bucks on Ebay to track down.

When I was in the airforce back in the 80's, early nineties I was stationed in Phoenix, Arizona and I use to go see these guys all the time at a little place called The Jar and a few smaller bars. They rocked, and as mentioned earlier, Jerry Harrison and dan Wexler rocked and made a great team. If i'm not mistaken I think they were from the Phoenix Arizona area because when I 1st saw there video for Taken My Breath Away on Mtv it was filmed on or around Camelback Mountain in Phoenix.

Their 1st and 2nd albums are much better. I prefer Stephen Clifford's voice over the new guys. The songs are good on this album but it would have benefitted from Clifford's voice. I recommend starting with Icon and Night of the Crime before picking this one up. They are much better albums. I do agree that the Alice Cooper duet is cool though. That song alone is worth picking this album up. After the debut and Night that is. I also have the Video of the band live. Shitty audio but cool.

Another classic from Icon, I would have to rate their debut release their best and then this second, jerry harrison is a good vocalist however i prefer stephen cliffords vocals, there are some kick ass songs here, Taking my breath away, Far cry from love, Two for the road and a few other cool songs, Dan Wexler is an excellent guitarist and lets rip , This is another kick ass release by icon, buy their debut first and this second.and then Night of the crime third its cool but its more AOR

From: Chad |

Tono- I agree that Stephen is a better vocalist and the band was better with him at lead vox but Dan Wexler rips some pretty good tunes and is the main songwriter. You have to give him a ton of credit. I enjoy cranking all their records but the first two are by far the best in my opinion.

After listening to this release more in the last few weeks, it's really grown on me and I'd have to say it can easily compete against Night Of The Crime. The Self Titled was ok sounding, the Night and Between The Eyes are top notch. Recommended to anyone who likes a good combo of Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, Dokken and Keel
|
From: Chad |
Date: July 23, 2004 at 0:39 |
T-Bone- I think that Night of the Crime is far superior to this album. Not only is Clifford a better vocalist but the songs are way stronger on Night. Even the first album is much better than this release. I like this album but anyone discovering Icon should hit the first two albums prior to this release. The first two albums are far different than on another. The first being really raw and the second beind very polished. I agree with you on appealing to Dokken, Keel and Whitesnake fans.

I would have to revise my opinion and agree with chad, night of the crime is a better album, i didnt give night of the crime as much chance because it seemed less heavy, but overall it is a stronger album than this, I would say the first release is best then the second and then right between the eyes third, though this cd still has some kick ass songs and a few mediocre songs, but still worth it for the good tracks that it has such as far cry from love and takin my breath away.

'Forever young' sounds better on this one than the previous release and it's a great tune, but it's the triple whammy (4,5,6) which makes this album. 'A far cry' is my favourite Icon song of all and just a melodic hard rock monster, 'In your eyes' is perfection all over again with the added vocal delights as the song fades out, not found on the original - small touch, but I love it... and then 'Holy man's war' - another of their best songs. Three stunning songs, one great f*cking album!

Not even the same band as the first 2 records. Good album some worth while songs but ultimatley not a patch on the S.C era.Yeah the new guy sounds like David Coverdale but this aint as good as Whitesnake. Why did Stephen leave Icon exactly? and why not play afew gigs now and then or a live record or something come on theres only 1 life on this planet and when theyre all old men they'll regret it, So Icon get back together and enjoy yourselves i think youd be suprised how many fans youv got.

Tom - Stephen left the band as he became a born again Christian, not something I'd choose for myself but I believe it's pretty compelling for the people who choose to follow that path. I have to agree this is their weakest album though it has it's moments. You can never rule out a reunion but I reckon it would be a long shot and even then I would doubt it would include Mr. Clifford...go on guys prove me wrong...please!!!!

Lots of you seem to like this...me,NO. The first 2 Icon releases are Killer...this sounds like Whitesnake...that's not a bag thing but I always felt Icon had their own sound..Maybe it's cause I got the first one the day it came out...and it seemed so different than alot of other bands...this however resides next to the ones I hardly listen to...so I listened today and still feel the same.... to each his own....

Don't get me wrong, dude! but Whitesnake sounds like Icon! Icon played their own style of American Hard rock since they began while Whitesnake had shown their Hard n Heavy sound only since '87; Coverdale wanted to 'americanize' himself just for a short period in order to make many us dollars so he borrowed the successful formula of U.S. Big Rock: strong and shining riffs, lound an' clear harmonies and poppy catchy anthems.

This album is one of the highest pics of 80's american Metal and I love it...better than Whitesnake 1987. 'Forever Young' vs 'Here I go Again' = 10-0.

Oh I really love Icon, it's one of my favourite bands indeed: the toughness of its sound is perfectly mixed with nice-sticky melodies. Even more, I do like the new singer, but I'd rather prefer the first one because it created a magic prompt on Night of the Crime! 9,5/10.

Pretty good album that lacks in the lyric department. My two favorite songs on this album were already on their previous album. 'Forever Young' is pretty much the same version as the one on the previous album, but 'In Your Eyes' has been re-recorded, remixed and sounds incredible, my favorite song on the album and it's woth getting the album for. I prefer Jerry Harrison's natural-sounding vocals on the previous album also. This album does have a very good 'In Your Face' sound to it though.

Great album with a great vocalist(Jerry Harrison)he also sang in the album 'A More Perfect Union'...talkin' about this jewel,we found here marvellous songs such as 'Right Between The Eyes' with that powerful chorus,'In Your Eyes'(nice and catchy),'Holy Man's War(anthem!),'A Far Cry','Forever Young'(both excellents)and 2 close the album the crazy 'Peace And Love'.If you enjoy the good music then this album is a real option for your ears!.90/100

These guys hold an iconic place in the hearts of hard rockers the world over, and deservedly so, based on the strengths of their classic 'Night of the Crime' and this album (their other releases really don't do much for me). The argument over who is the better vocalist, Wexler or Clifford, will forever rage between fans, but for what it's worth, I think they're both equally talented; while I prefer 'Night of the Crime' over 'Right Between the Eyes,' it is solely because I think the songs are superior on 'Night...,' not because of a preference in singers. Anyway, while the songs on 'Night...' are better, the songs on this album are none too shabby, delivered with revved-up red-hot guitars, solid commercial hooks, and some tasty backing vox. Pick this one up and prepare to take a hard rocking sonic bullet right between the eyes...or ears.

excellent release by the mighty ICON back in 89 .it s obvious that they tried to adjust to the hair metal movement during that era and the result is pretty good.new vocalist similar to coverdale at times and amazing guitar work by dan.all kind of songs from rockers,to ballads ,to mid tempos.highlights are "in your eyes","taking my breath away","far cry" and "bad times".brilliance!

This a great cd. I like Night of the crime also, but for me this more of the style I like most. 2 opposite sounding vocalists and with a more hard rock style on this and More perfect union rather than the AOR OF Night of the crime. A Far Cry is just awesome and others are, Taking my breathe away, Two for the road, In your eyes, & Forever young. I recommend.
