MTV+Once Bitten Twice Shy... sum up this cd.. Heavy Rotation. Mista Bone, and Heart of Broken Love are good songs... I met them in Boston, MA. It was at Mama Kins that I saw them play. They were great guys, autographed all my cds, and each gave my pics... Also, bumped into a friend at the show. Hey Martin! Whats up...If you see this yeah its me, Stu... Im playing in a band. 'Digital Penatration' Anyone see Martin Doughton - Georgia, Please have him contact me - This is such a long shot... Such i

The angel song is probably one of the best ballads ever......

From: Baris Date: September 19, 2002 at 5:20
A perfect follow-up after "Once Bitten". This is one of the products of Great White at their height. Besides strong bluesy hard rock songs you can find catchy romances as "The Angel Song", House Of Broken Love" and "She Only". On the other hand "Once Bitten Twice Shy" with its cool piano backing is a must to hear for all who are interested in this band of sharks.

From: Rockforever Date: September 23, 2002 at 17:20
Great follow up to 'Once Bitten',and one of the best rock records of the late 80s. House of Broken Love is a fantastic blues-rocker (with some amazing playing, thankyou Mark),while The Angel Song is indeed one of the best power ballads ever. Excellent soulful rock.

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 18, 2003 at 16:20
to be honest i never liked great white very much..............but i have to admitt it "once bitten twice shy"is one hell of a song.what a rhythm!!.r n r at its best.

Once again the cover tune is the best song on here. Great White really knew how to do covers well (in most cases), but as always when it came to writing original songs, they would struggle. "House Of Broken Love" is a pretty good blues song while "The Angel Song" is a nice ballad. The rest is just filler. 5/10

As the split title suggests, this, to me, was always sort of an extension of the previous excellent album. Of the rockers, 'Hiway Nights' is awesome and 'Baby's on fire' has a cool groove too. 'The Angel Song' and 'She only' are both excellent, beautiful ballads, 'House Of Broken Love' is one of my fave Great White songs ever - just a classic blues ballad, and the cover, 'Once Bitten Twice Shy' is cool. Another great rock CD.

Mi favorito junto con Psycho city. Guitarras que se mueven entre el hard rock y el blues, con ese estilo inconfundible del grupo. Excelente equilibrio entre canciones rockeras (Move it, Mista Bone, Babys on fire) y mas melódicas (the angel song, house of broken love, she only). Y la canción "bonus" un puntazo!

A great album. It was released around same time as 'Hysteria' and I imagine most that own that cd have this one as well. Essential for the Great White fan! No filler at all here. Both ballads are worthy, too.

From: Nanteau Date: February 13, 2005 at 17:28
The best ever cover of a CD What a hell of a cover .. need it on my shirt By the way -- songs are also good though my faves are from other albums: "Save your love" & "Rock me" in first order !

From: poproxx2007 Date: February 13, 2006 at 15:06
"Angel Song" is one of the greatest ballads ever. As a huge Great White fan I always thought this one had the most fillers. "She Only" starts out great but seems to peter out. Greats include: "House Of Broken Love", "Highway Nights" and "Move It"-Otherwise Jack and the boys on autopilot (Even though it was they're most successful!)

From: wzcj02 Date: May 22, 2006 at 15:21
Great band but this album is a bit overrated for mine...probably because of the title track. once bitten, shot in the dark and psycho city are all better albums. House of broken love is a classic song....This album could have been mixed heavier.

i love, love this album, probably one of the bands that knew how to use led zepllin´s influence so well, i also admire, the fact they don´t hide that.if you are into pure hard rock this and other albums from them are true rock gems. it´s great to see a lot of kids that say it´s a great band and then say led zep. is shit!! this is what i call rock intelectuals. LOL. but , like always.....what do i know about rock???

From: fenixx Date: June 30, 2007 at 7:01
as i said above i love this album and i also love one of the artistes they get inspiration from...know who he is? of course you don´t. it´s a shame he does´nt has nothing about him on HH !! i´m talking about the great mr. IAN HUNTER.

From: dalelammers Date: August 4, 2007 at 13:59
I friggin' adore this album. It's not their best. That honor lies with the self-titled debut, but this album holds special significance for me as I got my first lap dance at Spring Break in Corpus Christi, Texas. The dancer's name was Marina and the song she chose? Why, it was "Mista Bone," of course!

From: edwithmj Date: April 29, 2010 at 7:33
After hearing the album Once Bitten I heard this and am still really disappointed. The songs aren't heavy enough. The ballad is nice though. Another thing, what is with Great White releasing so many cover albums and songs? WE GET IT! You like old 70s blues rock. There's no need to cover every song that was released in the 60s and 70s. This band has almost released as many cover albums as they have studio albums. Anyway, Hiway Nights has a nice tune but drags on as does Mista Bone.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: April 29, 2010 at 10:37
Well, I like this one well enough, but Ed just made a good point: the songs do tend to drag on, with these l-o-n-g passages that are supposed to be jamming, but just sound like aimless what'm-I-supposed-to-do-now noodling. The disc is only nine songs, but is well over 50 minutes, if I recall. "Heart The Hunter" is probably my favorite song, and one I don't see a lot of people mention. That, "Hiway Nights," "Mista Bone" and ' House Of Broken Love" are my picks, and "Move It" has acool vibe to it as well, kind of a different way to start off a record. But I don't care if i ever hear "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" again.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: April 29, 2010 at 14:12
As for all the cover songs, I think they were trying to make a statement back then that they were different from the other L.A. bands, whose knowledge of "classic rock" seemed limited to Kiss, Aerosmith, AC/DC and Van Halen.

From: onemorecast Date: November 3, 2010 at 22:59
Once Bitten was the superior album. This one just didn't rock as much. Once bitten twice shy has to be the worst cover song of all time. I hated hearing that so much, could never figure out why it was so popular.

From: rockhardrock Date: January 22, 2011 at 17:53
another great record by them that was in some cases also more closer to blues rock than any other release rom the 80s by them. my faves: once bitten, twice shy, mista bone, angel song and she only.

From: 123charpenay Date: August 3, 2012 at 17:20
marvellous record but some fillers some songs are too basic too rock n roll for me.but the rest it s ....paradise "house of broken love " is one of the best beautiful song never wtriten and played by a hard rock band.

From: 123charpenay Date: March 7, 2013 at 13:01
mr lardie and niven make an exeptional work for the production.what sound, what purity, they give to this really excellent great s white album.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: September 20, 2017 at 19:14
Cool album being the track "Hiway Nights" my fave in here ...cuts 1,2,7 & 10 are also on my list of goodies.80/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: July 8, 2018 at 0:12
I always thought the sequethe sequencing of this album was a little odd, in that the first single is the last song (not counting the bonus tracks--I mean the original nine-song version). So, at least in theory, you were supposed to wade through eight mostly slow- to mid-paced tracks, including three ballads (yeah, I know one is technically a slow blues) to get to the song you wanted to hear and probably bought the damn thing for in the first place. Of course, when I first got the cassette, I just rewoud ffrom the end of side 2, but still. My point is, who makes their first single the last track on the record? For the actual songs? I know most of us dumb rawkers didn't really think about it back then--we just gobbled up everything that was sold to us as hard rock--but Twice Shy is really a different animal than the other platinum-selling hard-rock albums of the time. The slower pace, the bluesiness, and not having the gain cranked all the way at all times really lends the album a dark f

... feel. Really not a lot of major-key melodies on here at all, and for some reason, this stands out to me.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: July 8, 2018 at 0:15
Also, I'm sure "Wasted Rock Ranger" was supposed to be a joke, but I wonder if it's one the band might like to have back, inn light of everything that's happened in the intervening years.

From: ghettonation73 Date: November 15, 2020 at 14:40
They also have a B-Side called "Slow Ride." not to be confused with the Foghat song. That song and "Wasted Rock Ranger" were on the "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" cassette single.

I listened to this one yesterday afternoon at work, and as usual, really enjoyed it. I always seem to forget that, and it's never one I mention if the topic turns to favorite albums from the period. Maybe it's because the other eight songs have been so orershadowed by the one huge hit, but I forget how great the deep cuts are, how strong the hooks are in songs like "Move It," "Hiway Nights," “Baby’s On Fire" (guess they won't ever play that one again!), and especially "Heart The Hunter." "She Only" might be the weakest song, maybe an attempt at "Save Your Love II," and being one ballad too many, but it still has its place. And the big hit—even though I don't really need to hear it ever again, the guys sound like they're having a ball and could sing "My, my, my!" until the cops get called.
