By far my fave hatch next to the first 3. Great album that really acted as a comeback album as they had not been heard a lot on radio or in clubs until this came out. Awesome work. Fab tracks.

An album full of 80's pop rock crap. This is one of those albums that proves how little record executives know about the fans. Most of the material on this disc was written for the band with little or no involvement by them except for the actual recording of the songs. "I Ain't Got You" could have smoked, given the rockin' rendition that Aerosmith did, but unfortunately just falls flat. There are a few decent songs on this disc, but there is an awful lot of crap to wade through to get to it.

The first songs are very good like SATISFIED MAN(also a cool video clip) for exemple. Many songs sound like 80s TED NUGENT in my opinion (For Exemple STRAIGHT SHOOTER). Not a bad album but not a buy or die release.

The thing is that they used a lot of keyboards in it so it makes it sound not as a real "southern".The same happened to Blackfoot with the "vertical smiles" album.Maybe it's not their finest but it ain't a disposeable one either.

algunas fotos de la época son bastante diferentes a las de otras etapas de estos pelilargos pero no tan barbudos como los ZZ Top. Para algunos que no tengan muy en claro que música es el southern o rock sureño, podemos mencionar lo que sonó en la película “Volver al Futuro” donde los mas afamados ZZ Top no solo aportan parte de la banda sonora sino que aparecen tocando en la película. Como particularidad del estilo, normalmente los cantantes tienen un timbre de voz medio,

lejos de ser agudo y pasado por whiskey, medios roncos como Bruce Springteen. El disco suena muy bien, y como particularidad, se pecan de un rock monótono como es el caso de algunos discos de Lynyrd Skynyrd en el que para los que no aman este sub estilo, podría ser un poco aburrido. Y para los que sean amantes del AOR tipo Survivor y esas agrupaciones que hicieron mella en esa etapa musical, este disco les va a encantar, por ejemplo la bateria suena con mucho

More keyboard oriented release that soften the southern rock style of the band a bit...actually this is pretty close to the AOR field rather than anything else..."Satisfied Man" is a typical MH song,southern driven a 100% but then things turn sugar flavoured with the keys all over in tracks such as "Backstabber","Stone In Your Heart"(the best cut of the album,one good AOR song!)..."Good Smoke And Whiskey" & "Straight Shooter" are good rocking ones...recommended album but do not expect anything too southern in here...89/100

1983 doc hollisay "modern medicine",blackfoot "siogo" 1984 blackfoot "vertical smiles" and "the deed is done" from molly hatchet.all this records have the same particularity:these southern rock legends have the f m temptation.it s simple ,in this time majors label wants to touch the more wide crowd with bands wich have success with their previous records.don t forget that doc holliday was n° 1 in u s a with the fabulous "lonesome guitar".american people have good taste.so this majors wants a southern f m record.i love all these records .i understand that pure southern rock fans are not agree with me.before to listen this excellent album you have to forget track 9 ,a very poor rock song and track 11 an instrumental wich have absoluty no interest.the rest is excellent with big guitars and many great keyboards.on track 3 there is an instrumental break where bass sound deliciously disco.i love that.track 1 and 5 are two real hits wich are present on the fabulous "double trouble live" 1985.

The full album title may as well have been "The Deed Is Done ... And So Is Our Career." The problem with albums like this--and Siogo and Vertical Smiles--is that they didn't work! The bands hated making them, and unlike David Lee Roth, who at first hated "Jump" but changed his mind once it became a hit--these southern rock bands didn't get the opportunity, because these records never became hits. Their old fans thought the new tunes sucked, and the wider audience who was supposed to gobble it up saw it for the phony, calculated--AND subpar--corporate rock that it was.

123Charpenay--Just curious: where'd you get that about Doc Holliday having a number-one in America? As far as I know (and I'm not saying I know everything), those guys weere never that popular heere. In the southern-rock pecking order, they were somewhere below Point Blank, even in their early-'80's "heyday."

hi doghouse to be very clear and precise my informations came from geoff gillgrass president of the doc holliday fan club uk.exactly in wales.billboard rock albums april 4 1981 doc holliday "same" first record was n°32.for info n° 1 was eric clapton "another ticket".the fabulous song "lonesome guitar" was n° 1 not in usa (sorry) but in japan:kerrang february/march 1982 top 30 kuts n° 1 "lonesome guitar" from doc holliday.for info n° 2 was "to the top " from krokus".1983 always from kerrang "import albums the official hm charts specially compiled for kerrang from a nationwide survey of 500 specialists shops" "modern medicine" from doc holliday was n° 5.for info n° 1 was "rockin every night live in japan" from gary moore.i m sure doghouse that you are a very talented guy so it will be easy for you to find all these informations on the web.yes rick my friend the doc was very popular in europe in the start of the 80 s we have very often at radio "lonesome guitar" or "southern man".
