Just wonderful..great mixture of savage and dirty Rock'n'Roll with some elementsof punk here and there..all the songs are a blast!!!.90/100

RIght off, I was disappointed with this one, and this is from a fan who knows what the band is about. I loved the last three albums, especially Get Some and High As Hell. Then after a couple weeks, listening to it for maybe the tenth time, it suddenly clicked for me. Or at least partially. It's still not as good as the two others I mentioned, but it does have some great songs. I think the production holds it back more than anything, as the faster, punkier songs just don't come across well in this bare-bones (you might even say garagey or bathroomy) recording sound. But the more mid-tempo songs are great, and the guitar tones are good enough to eat, very "vintage." My favorites are "Speed Machine," the sarcastic and irresistible "Lazy Jesus," "I'm So High" (with an appearance by Dank Jones), and the deliciously twangy, almost ZZ Top-ish "Stone Cold Down." As a side note, mine has a somewhat different track order.

yea, i agree. it took this a while to grow on me but now it is my second favorite by them just behind get some! high as hell is good but peeters out bad in the second half. this is consistante through out and the production is fine it fits the songs like a glove! 90/100!!!

This was a HUGE letdown, I have been a fan since the first album and have seen them live. This album sounds like they are going in a 70's retro direction, jumping on the bandwagon of the moderncumlately sound. Say it isn't so guys, say it isn't so! I mean all of the sleaze still seems to be there, but not the kick ass garage rock. Too bad, because their last album was one of their best and I had high hopes for this release. Oh well.......

This album has since been remixed, re-sequenced and re-released, along with a bonus live disc. The remix job is nice, and necessary, as the original version sounded like you were listening to it on a cheap clock radio. It's better now, but the difference isn't drastic. Guitars are louder, vocals pushed back, but the drums are still kinda clacky. As for the live disc ... I dunno, listening to this band live, without actually being there or at least seeing it on DVD, is kind of a waste. With just the audio to go by, they come off as sloppy punks who can't play their instruments.

I'm a giant fan of this band and have been since I heard "I'm The Man" on the StrangeLand soundtrack (and "You're Goin' Down" on a late-night metal show on the radio). These guys always cheer me up when I feel blue. Having said that, if I were to rank alll six albums, From Hell To Texas would be second from the bottom. I do enjoy it, and several songs are top-notch (namely "Speed Machine," "Lazy Jesus," "I'm So High," "Give Me A Hit Before I Go" and the title track) there are parts of the disc that just don't seem to add up--something just feels off. "Ain't Your Business," "Dead Men Can't Get Drunk" and "Pray For The Devil" and even "Stone Cold Down" just aren't very catchy (except for the very Billy Gibbons guitar lines on the latter song). In a way, it's actually less satisfying than Let Them Eat Pussy, my least favorite, because From Hell To Texas lacks the what-the-fuck-is-this novelty of the debut. I dunno, the disc just hasn't grown on me that much. The lyrics are a trip as alway

... as always, and the production makes them very understandable, which has not always been the case.
