THIS BAND WAS ONE OF THE BEST OUT OF LA THE RECORD DEFINES THE BAND GREAT TUNES AN ALICE COOPER COVER-(18) ALL OUT METAL ASSAULT

From: SIXXSWINE Date: October 13, 2001 at 14:19
A good band that would have evolved to a fantasic one. That is had they not met the fate of many. All around a well written record, with great musicianship. An ALICE COOPER cover, hell they didn't stop there they also Used Bob Ezrin! Pretty good for a band on "just an indipendent label". Did I forget to mention that the bass player & guitarists' brother are in Quiet Riot?! 8.0 K.O. on the SWINE SCALE!

From: Harvey Date: October 24, 2001 at 14:05
At the time, I Thought their Mini-album couldn't be bettered...I was wrong. Careful playing and a majestic, almost un-metal like, atmosphere creates a trully unique album. I was 17 when this album came out and it totally defined my summer (1988).

From: Dragonfly Date: December 13, 2001 at 12:42
Buy this if you find it. You won't be sorry. Great Great cd. One of the best.

From: koogles Date: January 2, 2002 at 15:38
Probably the best Hurricane CD money can buy. More hooks than a coat rack and more power than a fascist dictator. "I'm Onto You" and "Over the Edge" are now classics in the genre, but tracks like "We Are Strong" are still as fresh and combustible now as they were back in '88. Buy it now, crank it up and let it rock!

From: Reno Date: May 3, 2002 at 1:04
Great musicianship on this cd. The video's bring back alot of memories....come to think of it, I still have them from Headbangers Ball on MTV. Yes....children...MTV did play videos once upon a time before real life drama's and style shows, and contests, drowned them out

From: Richard Hall Date: June 19, 2002 at 13:23
the best Hurricane release by far.Kelly Hansen is still one of the best voices around today(check out his work on Unruly Childs'"Waiting For The Sun" available at www.aorheaven.com ...."Over The Edge" ,"I'm On To You","We Are Strong" & "I'm Eighteen" Are stand out tracks

From: RichieRocker Date: June 26, 2002 at 10:54
"Im on to you" is the only song I have heard from this band, but what an awesome song. The guitars, bass, and the drums compliment each other very well. And Kelly Hansen has awesome vocals and a great voice for rock music.

From: Carl Date: July 12, 2002 at 15:16
I remember when this first came out it was ridiculed as a bit of a joke because of the "famous brothers in other bands" connection. This album has really stood the test of time. "I'm on to you" is a classic. Listen to how hard Kelly pushes his voice in "18" - superb. Pity they recruited Doug Aldrich for the next album , didn't have the same kind of melodic riffing that Sarzo had.

From: THE ROCKER Date: July 13, 2002 at 15:56

From: Blue Charvel Date: July 16, 2002 at 13:09
Sarzo did write better riffs which makes this album (I got it on vinyl, give me a break) definitely worth listening to. Real shame with Aldrich is that he's an AWESOME player, but the riffs just don't carry as much weight as Sarzo's.

From: jens Date: July 20, 2002 at 0:52
was there a different cover for the european release? a twister, brownish colours??? i think i have this, but i am highly confused. cheers, jens

From: Baris Date: September 6, 2002 at 1:30
Greatest Hurricane album. The melodies still make sense today. A very good singer and a clear guitar sound that creates a brilliant hard rock. Highly recommended.

From: b casarin MEX Date: October 5, 2002 at 18:29

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: November 5, 2002 at 3:58

From: Teo_3 Date: January 14, 2003 at 1:05
Definitely one of the best U.S bands. There no baD album from this magnificent hard rock act with on of the best singers ever. Best track is their clip "Over the Edge" and what a clip.Easily 10/10.Pure rock!!!

From: Paisman Date: January 21, 2003 at 4:05
Another senseless casualty of the grunge movement. This album totally kicked ass. Too bad so many people missed out on this cd.

From: Metalhead Date: February 7, 2003 at 4:34
To all you guys, Just want to ask your opinion: which is better, this CD or Kingdom Come's In Your Face CD? I saw this one for $10. KC's CD is alot cheaper.

From: Gar Date: February 7, 2003 at 7:35
I response to Metalhead: I would go with this album over Kingdom Come. Almost all the songs on this one are great, while Kingdom Come has only a couple of good songs on it plus a lot of forgettable ones. IN YOUR FACE was a big letdown for me as I really enjoyed the first Kingdom Come album. $10 is a very reasonable price for Hurricane. This album is hard to come by.

From: Blue Tequila Date: February 7, 2003 at 13:39
Metalhead - get 'em both, but get Hurrricane first since it's pretty hard to find. Then you can always pick up KC later. I think they're both good albums.

From: Metalhead Date: February 18, 2003 at 4:55
Thank you for your responses. I already bought the CD and it was good. Not exactly what I was expecting but not bad at all. Kelly Hansen was an amazing singer and Robert Sarzo can pull-off some surprises. Track No. 9 is very good.

From: jayglam Date: April 9, 2003 at 7:43
Great Kickass second release. One of the better bands on the scene in the late eighties. Check out the funny Baby snakes song I think everyone could relate to it at some stage in their life. Rock you like a HURRICANE. Jay from Australia.

From: Square Date: May 15, 2003 at 20:03
Simply one of the best rock albums of the 80's. Their cover of I'm Eighteen is better than Alice's! The first 4 songs are just fantastic.

From: Blue Tequila Date: May 20, 2003 at 14:01
This album definitely deserves a re-release. In fact with the technology out there to create low cost cd's and spread the word of it's availability there shouldn't be any album that is out of print if there is a demand for it. Or an even cheaper option for the record companies would be if they had websites where you could pay (reasonable $)to download a cd quality version of the oop album and cover art and make your own cd. You can't make money on a product that isn't available to the public.

From: Scandinavia Date: June 29, 2003 at 5:43
Listening to "I'm onto You" right now...Great track! Nananananana I'm onto you!

From: Harvey Date: June 29, 2003 at 9:23
I think Blue Tequilla has one heck of a point. Unfortunately, it would appear that record companies are not run by music fans. I know that Enigma records (the label on which this LP and Slave To The Thrill were released) went out of business, but I think the label distributed through Virgin records acrosss Europe anyway. Instead, there'll be some warehouse somewhere, where the master tapes to Over The Edge are lying and warping over the years...what a waste!!

From: John Date: September 5, 2003 at 15:03
I've been lucky enough to see Kelly Hansen sing live. Unique, well trained and powerful. Good thing there's ten songs here that showcase that voice. This is a stellar album. 9/10.

From: razor2467 Date: November 11, 2003 at 14:40
Now this Rocks!!! By far their best cd. Baby snakes still makes me laugh even after all these years

From: Chris Date: December 20, 2003 at 3:17
This album rocks, shame they aren't more readily available in the UK!

From: charvel man Date: May 5, 2004 at 18:21
This was one of my top favs as a kid. I love this band. Kelly hansen has a fuckin awesome voice as cool as david coverdales. Awesome album cover.Over the edge is a rock anthem, great alice cooper cover and you have to love a band with a name like that!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 27, 2004 at 0:05
A band that should have had more success, but probably didn't due to lack of an image. "Over The Edge" is a great start to the album, and I like that they follow it up with a bluesy version of "I'm Eighteen". The tracks "We Are Strong" and "I'm On To You" are good pop metal tracks. The final track is a waste though. 8/10

From: K.K. Poland Date: July 4, 2004 at 17:23
NA NA NANANA NA I'M ON TO YOU!! fantastic song! great, We Are Strong have a amazing chorus, great album. zajebisty album, coœ wspania³ego, I'm On To You wyrywa mi jaja i wsadza w imad³o, boskie

From: TIM (2) Date: July 9, 2004 at 4:42
This was their strongest and most commercial release. It almost sounds like a slightly harder version of the Winger debut at times ("I'm Onto You" and "We Are Strong" in particular). I think this one loses it's way towards the end a little, but is very strong at the beginning. Hansen never sounded better than on this, is a very powerful performance, but this was the only time in his career he had decent material to work with. Excellent. 8/10.

From: Desslar Date: July 9, 2004 at 5:04
I hate to disagree with the crowd, but I was rather disappointed with this. I had heard this was Hurricane's best album, but I actually prefer Slave to the Thrill. Tracks 3 and 4 are great, but the rest is average at best. The cover of Eighteen is unnecessary and the final track is a waste of space.

From: Desslar Date: July 9, 2004 at 5:06
Oops! Forgot one thing. The cover art is some of the worst I've ever seen. What a mess. How about some color?

From: Rockhead Date: July 9, 2004 at 7:37
Hey Desslar if you can track down the japanese EP of songs on here-it is well worth investing. I have always thought Hurricane were a bit hit and miss but the EP is awesome!!

From: Desslar Date: July 10, 2004 at 3:11
Thanks for the tip. I have seen that CD before, but didn't know who they were at the time so I didn't get it. I'll have to investigate.

From: Rick Thunder Date: July 13, 2004 at 7:35
In this album there's one of the best songs I've heard in my life, Over the edge is amazing you've got to listen it, ok the others songs are very good too, and there's no one saying something about this song

From: Rycheage Date: July 15, 2004 at 22:13
Probably their most consistent album to date. This rocks from beginning to end. "I'm On To You", "I'm Eighteen", "Messin' With A Hurricane" absolutely rock. The real crown jewel is "Over The Edge". What a chorus. Highly recommended.

From: Hudson5280 Date: August 13, 2004 at 21:31
This band was one of the club kings in the early to mid 80's... and if it wasn't for shitty promotion they could have been a bigtime outfit... swept aside for the likes of Ratt and Dokken... Shame!

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: January 25, 2005 at 0:27
Takes more than four, five or even six listens before you get it(at least me), Heavy, strong and personally i think misses a tiny bit of melodies wich could have combined with the amazing guitars on it. I point "Spark in My Heart" as a highlight but a great heart-breaking ballad is missing here by my point of view. Amazing added cd in your collection don't get me wrong but do not expect any compromises here, tough from start to finish; the most of their works.

From: Matt Date: January 29, 2005 at 0:03
I recently bought a used copy of this cassette for really cheap, mostly just for the song "I'm Onto You," and I was utterly blown away! Why these guys weren't AT LEAST as big as the likes of Dokken is completely beyond me. Just all-around great musicianship, and Kelly Hansen in particular has an incredibly powerful, yet very melodic voice. All of the tracks kick ass, but I was especially impressed with "Messin' with a Hurricane" and "We Are Strong." Definitely buy this album!!

From: Matt Date: January 29, 2005 at 0:10
Oh, by the way, no pun intended when I said I was "utterly blown away" by Hurricane! (sorry, that was cheesy as hell...). Anyway, does anyone know what these guys have been up to lately? I know only Hansen and Schellen played on the Liquifury album, but since then, I haven't heard a thing about any of 'em...

From: wickerman114@ao Date: February 11, 2005 at 8:02
I have to agree wuth DESSLAR on this one.I think this is by far their worst recording ,except for a couple of tracks on this one i can`t even listen to it .I expected so much more after the ep came out, but at least they made up for it on their next release.Even their 2001 release LIQUIFURY is more listenable than this is

From: Geoff Date: February 12, 2005 at 22:26
One feels as though they might have f*cked up their chance at slight stardom here, but you can't be sure. Because although there are many weak tracks here, 'Over the edge' is a killer melodic hard rocker and 'I'm onto you' is awesome, just what the radio wanted. 'Messin' with a hurricane' is okay, as is 'We are strong', and even 'Give me an inch'... sort of. But to be honest, I'd have expected a lot better with the first 2 tracks I noted. Pretty poor album overall.

From: onemorecast Date: February 23, 2005 at 23:40
This one was great, too bad they never got any airplay. I here them more today on sirius radio than I ever did back in the day. They messed up their chances when the next album wasn't as good. The last song with the guy trying to get a date is hilarious, very original.

Got mine today on eBay for 46$. Can't wait to receive it ! Now my Hurricane CD collection is nearly complete, but the 1985 EP is so hard to find....

From: headbanger4life Date: January 25, 2006 at 22:03
One of the best hard rock bands from the 80's. I love Kelly Hansen's vocals and got almost everything he's ever done. I'm having a helluva time finding their Take What You Want EP. "Over the Edge" and "I'm on to You" are classic rockers.

From: fiortoft Date: November 17, 2006 at 18:12
INCREDIBLE RECORD!!!I would say that the genre here is CLASS METAL, most of the songs sound that way,but songwriting is very various too!!!8 of the 10 songs are PERFECT, bu the 2 I don't like much are track 8 and 10..BABY SNAKES has no sense, what a waste of time, they should have put a huge ballad at the end of the record and it would have been perfect!!!..also GIVE ME AN INCH is strange, sounds like pop-metal and has nothing to do with the rest of the album!!!...however it's a MASTERPIECE!!!!

From: fiortoft Date: November 17, 2006 at 18:33

From: fiortoft Date: November 17, 2006 at 18:36

From: RockMan10 Date: November 24, 2006 at 2:30
This album did not create any energy or fist pumping to me like the EP or Slave to the Thrill. I wore out the EP and saw them live with Stryper on that tour and it was fantastic. This album was extremely subpar in songwriting and in Sarzo's abilities. They won me back over with Slave.

From: z4roxx Date: November 26, 2006 at 11:17
Totally agree with RockMan10,except their best song(here)”We are strong”the rest is forgettable and very average. It’s really strange that the italian friend prefers this one than the others 2,but these are the tastes,I respect man!!!Ahahaha scusa se non scrivo mai in italiano ma mi vergogno di esserlo ahahahaha!!

From: fiortoft Date: November 30, 2006 at 17:40
z4roxx io preferisco questo disco a "Slave to the thrill" perchè questo è un capolavoro assoluto di class metal, l'altro è un buon disco di hard rock ma non mi impressiona per niente...it's my opinion, just a point of view my compatriot!!!!....le canzoni belle sono tante, te hai citato solo "We are strong" che è forse la più "catchy" tra le canzoni del disco (si sentono delle influenze dei Bon Jovi), ma di capolavori ce ne sono diversi, "Over the edge" è la canzone hard rock PERFETTA x me....

From: fiortoft Date: November 30, 2006 at 17:49

From: z4roxx Date: December 6, 2006 at 12:57

From: z4roxx Date: December 6, 2006 at 13:05

From: fiortoft Date: December 21, 2006 at 11:21

I bought this one for big bucks because I wanted some new 80's stuff. A few songs here for pop metal/rock fans like me but not a great album overall. The 80's vibe is here but it could have been heavier and most of the song writing is not catchy. Best tracks 1 and 3.

From: hernanHRM/AOR Date: November 8, 2007 at 21:20
otro albun regular con temas del mismo entorno Metal rock'n'Roll eh aqui temas como "Missin' With A Hurricane", "I'm On To You", "We Are Strong" y toda la potencia en "Spark In The Heart" lo mejor de este decente album...

From: metalhead4life Date: May 30, 2008 at 13:48
Highlights for me are 1, 3, 4, 6, 7. Didn't really care too much for the rest. Worth getting though if you liek 80's Glam Rock. Maybe it's just me but I didn't like the sound on this one too much. Rythm guitars are too toned down and are in the backround and they are lacking balls. Give it 80/100 since it has some cool tunes, cool cover, adn was released in a cool year 1988.

From: RockMan10 Date: May 30, 2008 at 15:06
This is one that I really wanted to like but couldn't. I played it for hours on end trying to find that one "hook" that would have me playing it for months on end. It never happend and I just ended up saying it was not for me and started jammin' the House of Lords and Bullet Boys debuts. I was very disappointed in this but boy did they redeem themselves with Slave To The Thrill. 70/100

From: rick kerch vzla Date: February 23, 2011 at 19:45
Good album(it could have been better IMHO)..."Over The Edge","I'm Onto You"(catchy..sort of a "hit" of the band),"Messin' With A Hurricane" ..."We Are Strong","Spark In My Heart" & "Baby Snakes" my favorites without any doubt..specially the last one which is a fantastic instrumental song...with that voice of "Jeff" on the phone trying 2 get his girl ...88/100 for my taste...

From: edwithmj Date: August 29, 2011 at 17:38
Overall a decent album but just slightly less catchy than Slave to the Thrill. Over The Edge, I'm Eighteen, I'm On To You, Spark in my Heart and Insane are stand out tracks for me.

From: Eric Date: July 14, 2022 at 17:25
By far, Hurricane's best album imo (and the only one I have kept). It's got the best cover artwork, best sound (Mike Clink with Bob Ezrin did very well), best songs (two written outside the band, Alice Cooper band and Jeff Jones) they ever did with strong choruses. Favourite songs mainly written by Sarzo are Over the edge, We are strong, Spark in my heart and Shout. I really like this disc, and Sarzo's tasty riffing and solos suited the songs just perfect. Sarzo's sense for melody and chorus was obviously crucial and without him is was not the same. Instead of being grateful to Robert Sarzo for sharing his writing royalties/credits, Kelly (with Jay+Tony going along) "stabbed" their main songwriter and guitarist in the back; they fired him without telling a reason. It's in one of those Full in Bloom Music interviews. As is often the case, band gets a new technically skilled guitarist (Doug Aldrich in this case) but the song quality is somewhat lost and next album didn't sell as well.

From: MelodicRocker Date: October 11, 2022 at 14:23
Mike Clink (with Bob Ezrin) took a lot of time to set up the optimal drum sound, and what a killer sound it is! This is absolutely the best Hurricane album, and yes Robert Sarzo made it more unique with his personal melodic style songs and playing. He is one of those talented musicians that sadly somewhat just disappeared for many years. I remember the rather cool video for "Over The Edge" and it's a really good song where lead vocals are excellent from Kelly.
